Kay Ivey Buckles Down in Lt. Governor's Race with New Ad

Kay Ivey’s campaign to challenge Democratic Lt. Governor Jim Folsom steps through some talking points with a new television spot airing in Birmingham and Huntsville.

Note Ivey’s fondness for the NRA as shown by her saucer-sized NRA belt buckle in the opening shot. You may find some irony in that she displays her endorsement of the NRA in her ad while the NRA endorses Folsom in this race.

Very nice ad. Better than Folsom’s.

Erin – if my candidate was a far behind in the polls as Folsom is, I guess I’d be slinging the same kind of mud. This time, that mud won’t stick. Even AEA polling in northeast Alabama shows Kay up 9 points over Folsom.

Erin – People who drink in glass bars better be careful when throwing double-old fashioned glasses.

She didn’t lose 400 million of our tax dollars any more or less than Folsom did. But FOLSOM did SUPPORT the PACT BAILOUT which will soak all taxpayers in the future. He and the legislature caved in to idiots like Patty Lambert in Decatur so that non-PACT parents are now on the hook for an obsolete govt program that was rescued to help save Folsom’s re-election chances. You couple that bailout with his financial involvement in Jefferson County’s sewer debacle and this guy is costing Alabama taxpayers billions. He needs to be sent back home to Cullman like he was in ’94 when voters were educated about his ethical improprieties and flaming Liberal record.

    Erin, you stay classy!

I truly do not care who wins this race, but you gotta admit that woman is bat-sh*! crazy. And even if Folsom shares in the loss of $400 million, the fact remains that she was the treasurer who was in charge when the money was lost.

And… if you want to be honest with the people of Alabama… Kay Ivey has some serious personal problems that she needs to address before she gets the keys to anything.

Erin – you sound scorned. And looking at your comments on other threads where you rant and rave and blame the Republican party for everything terrible in the world, I find it hard to believe you do not care who wins this race and that you refer to the candidates as “our” Republicans. DEMOCRATS UNITE! VOTE FOLSOM! is all you need to say.

“Erin” = Fox Pecker or whoever Folsom’s toady is. And “Erin” your reasoning is as warped as the liberal democrats you support. Folsom was Lt Guvner when the money was lost and sat on the very same PACT commission as Ivy did. He’s higher on the food chain so why does he get a pass? (Answer: your a Folsom shill.) If you blame them both for the first round of losses then he deserves double blame for organizing and passing the PACT bailout. He ought to be brought up on ethics charges because he passed the bailout which will financially benefit him as a PACT parent. This guy is the ultimate Montgomery backroom wheeler-dealer. He’s literally made his very comfortable living off the backs of us taxpayers.

Jim must not have gotten a buckle with his endorsement-Ivey has been wearing that thing for years.

    Cool.
    Me, too.

“Erin” if anyone is crazy it is you. You sound like a complete lunatic. Please get some help.

Erin – Danny will likely remove your comments. And rightfully so.

  • Kay Ivey also likes to smoke and drive a mom van.

I’m speak only the truth. It usually cuts harder than lies. But I’m done for the day. Too much time wasted and time is the one thing we can’t get back, no matter how conservative we are.

  • Mr. Conservative

OC, I don’t who you are what your politics are–but you get funniest comeback quip of the year, in my book. Please don’t make youself scarce. You made my day.

  • loyalindependent

Yes, Erin had to go. It’s five o’clock and the Lt. Gov.’s office is shutting down for the day. Good to see our tax dollars going to such worthwhile activities.

  • 2010

you’re no conservative, erin. not if you are on here promoting that we all vote for democrats come november.

  • JD

Little Jim keeps talking in his ads that he brought Mercedes to Alabama. That was also his campaign theme in 1994, when the people of Alabama rejected him for Fob James. More rejection coming, Jim.

  • Proud AEA member

    Erin speaks the truth.

  • Proud AEA member

When Young Boozer said he was a “retired” bank executive I wonder why he failed to say it was Colonial? He was ” retired” because it was shut down by the FDIC.

  • BillT

If imitation is the most sincere form of flattery then Kay just endorsed Folsom with this blatant copy of his two fabulous ads. FYI, his ads have completely turned the tide (if in fact there ever was a tide to be turned).
Step outside the Kool Aid stand, look around, and listen. That sucking sound you hear is the air going out of Kay’s balloon.

  • 2010

what a shock – proud aea member endorses the scorched earth policy of erin. truth be damned, DEMOCRATS RULE! aea member, shouldn’t you be down at the local school board telling them they have to keep paying school personnel that are sitting in jail? that is what the aea does, right? protect bad teachers? well, and support democrats so those policies can stay in place. wow? was that a little scorched?

  • Michael

Erin, you are a fool. This truth you claim to speak is from some sad and demented part of your whacked out brain. Step back from the computer and let the adults debate the issues here.

  • Proud AEA member

I bet Kay’s father Nettles is turning over in his grave knowing his daughter is blowing $1,000,000.00 worth of timber he and his wife left her. It makes me want to mix me an Old Forester and Coke.

  • PVC

You guys must have less work to do than I do. Want me to email you some of mine? It will be your free lesson in “productive politics.”

  • BamaVet

    Erin,

You are ridiculous. What are you talking about?

While we’re throwing out unfounded accusations, let me get one in and say “Erin has 11 toes and listens to the Spin Doctors while pilfering the state’s roadbuilding budget.” or “Jim Folsom asked for- and got- a concession from the state government that would allow him to work as an investment banker while he was Lt Gov, giving him the ability to use his political influence to make a killing in municipal bond underwriting, all the while using government vehicles for transportation while carrying out private business.”

Wait, actually, one of those statements is true.

  • Just Saying

Proud AEA – Boozer left colonial two years before the FDIC closed it down, but don’t let the facts get in the way. As Democrats believe, the end justifies the means!

As for Kay, your makeup post should start with “Dear Governor Ivey…”

AND, HATS OFF TO ANONYMOUS FOR “FOX PECKER”, FUNNIEST POST EVER! LOL

Kay’s record as treasurer shows her lack of ability to manage a state office. I will concede that the Lt. Gov. is more a manager than an actual power player in the state Senate. Rules have been passed that stripped a lot of the power the office once held. However, I do find it telling that Jim is repeatedly praised, from both sides of the aisle, for his ability to broker deals. To many, including most who don’t read this blog or any others, that will be characterized as a negative. “Oh, Folsom just like to make his friends happy,” or “Look at the back room deals Folsom pulled off,” are quips from Republicans hardcores who don’t realize that is the job of the president of the Senate. Whether Democrat or Republican, the Lt. Gov. is often involved in brokering agreement between the two parties. I challenge any former Treasury Department employee to come forward and say that Kay has a favorable record working with people, especially her colleagues, not subordinates.

  • Looks like to me that Little Jim is about to step off the cliff again. If he was smart (long shot on that), he would cut a deal with the new GOP power (not Riley) and maybe maintain his business. He sure does make a ton of money for so few assets in his pocket. You guys know what I am talking about.

    I like this ad.

  • YungDem

I think this is a nice ad. However Doesn’t change anything. Still the wrong candidate. Also, I’m sorry but she walked right into the Lesbian thing. She looks like Barbara Bush trying to dress like her son. Did she shoot this thinking the NRA was going to endorse her??? Rough Deal ma’am.

  • Erin

No takers? My offer still stands:

I admit that Folsom is a sop, a figurehead only, who lacks any motivation to accomplish anything and only got the job because of his last name. You admit that these two candidates (Ivey and Boozer) are Republicans in name only… or that they are lacking in accomplishments… or, at least, that they are flawed in some ways.

  • loyalindependent

Yung Dem – Maybe she shoot the ad knowing the endorsement was already lost. The buckle she is wearing ain’t easy to get — and any NRA member seeing the ad knows that. As the old sayin goes, a picture is worth 1000 words. And now Jim has to spend ad dollars shouting his endorsement for the incumbent from the roof tops. Remember, the NRA endorsed Seigelman against Riley in 2002. Not a bad move on Ivey’s part to wear the buckle. And never let it be said that Folsom out-”folksy” her at any turn — that is truly what sank Luther’s boat in 2006.

  • YungDem

@loyalindependent | http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=m570&_nkw=NRA+belt+buckle | Take your pick. any schmo with an agenda and 20 bucks can pickup a belt buckle. It’s not a mason’s ring. What NRA members know is Jim Folsom has been a lifelong member and avid outdoorsmen with their interests in mind. Kay Ivey accessorizes about this idea. Folsom actually shoots a gun in his ad. And if you think the Folsom campaign is going to exclusively address this issue, you are sorely mistaken cuz that would be alot like strappin on a belt buckle that reads CAPTAIN OBVIOUS

  • loyalindependent

You could be right, YungDem. And I am sure all the Alabama NRA members love the current Democrat agenda — its just like white & rice. This is a nationalized election head this way. Folsom may win, but I seriously doubt he will win unless he starts following the advice of Dem. plants on this site. But, I forgot, if he does that, it opens up his record in office to attack.

Legislative Dispatch

A Look from the Rearview Mirror

This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session.  For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end.  For others, it was one that ended much too quickly.  It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

Putting Students First

As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
