Bobby Bright Faces Coming NRCC Ad Blitz

The National Republican Congressional Committee will launch “a major television ad blitz” next week in Alabama’s 2nd Congressional District and ten other districts across the country.

Democratic freshman Bobby Bright faces a challenge from Republican Martha Roby for the seat.

We haven’t yet seen the ad targeting AL-02, but the NRCC has released one ad (meant for Kentucky’s 6th CD) as an example of the kinds of ads that will be targeting the eleven districts next week. No surprises here. (“Nancy Pelosi, Nancy Pelosi…”)

I do not like the ad one bit. They better come up with something different. Bright is vulnerable and weak for a variety of reasons….mainly due to his inability to take a stand, his constant dodging of questions, his inconsistent statements on issues from immigration to health care, the fact that he relishes riding the fence and thinks that is leadership, etc. (Not to mention the fact that he called his vote for Pelosi a “no brainer….she supported my campaign.”)

An ad against Bright must be specific – so if the NRCC tries to use a “blanket ad” such as the one Danny included here as an example, then it is a waste of time and money.

The people will never be moved by this type of ad used against Bobby Bright. The truth is that Bobby Bright voted over 80% of the time with Republican leader, John Boehner. But telling the truth is just not in the NRCC’s playbook. They will blow every chance they are given.

Lame, Lame, Lame. This is what happens when you have the people raising the money getting a take from producing and placing the ads.

  • 2010

anonymous – that is an out right lie. Bright does NOT vote with the GOP over 80% of of the time. It is ironic you are talking about telling the truth and your very comment is flat out false. And Anon, your comment is likewise false. The person raising the money for Roby is just that….Roby. Roby has nothing to do with an NRCC ad.

I agree that the ad stinks, however.

2010 you are wrong and you should know better as much as you live and breathe your animosity for Bobby Bright. The numbers are readily available online.

  • 2010

provide us all the link, anonymous. I am sure you are the same “anonymous” that misquotes Martha Roby’s positions and then when asked for a link you are proved false. Typical. And to think that you rant about honesty.

If numbers show that Pelosi is as vilified in the 2nd District as many think she is, this would be very effective ad. Very clean, very simple. Very straight forward message.

Much, much better than the standard fare we see on here.

Mix this in with a bunch of other spots, as happens on the real world of TV, and it will score points because is not readily identifiable as a poltical spot.

Most readers of this site can probably tell you something about the very first James Anderson spot because of its humor. But how many other spots shown here in the last three months stand out?

2010 – First of all I have never made any comment whatsoever on this blog or any other about any position Ms. Roby has taken. Unlike you, I do not spew hate on this or any other site but I do value the truth and ask only that you do the same. Do your homework: http://clerk.house.gov/legislative/legvotes.html or
    http://www.opencongress.org/

Are you for real, anonymous? The first link shows nothing about voting with your party or not – it is the clerk of the house site for roll call votes. The second link clearly states Bright votes with the Democrats 73% of the time. Thanks for pointing that out. How does that jive with your previous comment that Bright votes with the GOP leadership over 80% of the time? Interesting.

And I spew ate because I point out Bright’s record? Wow.

  • just the facts

Looks like you can compare directly compare legislators on this site.

Its got Bright voting the same as Speaker Pelosi 39% of the time, and Bright voting the same as Republican leader John Boehner 79% of the time.

And it shows on all the big issues how the voted. Like it, or hate it, Bright votes more with the R’s than he does with the D’s.

  • anonymous

2010 It is just like you to deny the truth I stated that Bright votes with the Republican John Boehner 80% of the time. Therefore, using your numbers, he votes with the Republicans far more than with the Democrats. He votes with the Alabama Republican delegation 80% of the time as well. That is without getting his daily Party marching orders memo too! I should also mention that there are about 50% of the votes that Democrats and Republicans vote the same. (The purpose of giving the other website is that if you review the actual votes Bright is over 80% with these Republicans) Now answer this question truthfully for our readers: Do you or do you not, work for the republican party?

  • Uncle Miltie

come on now people, you know booby bright works for good ol’ uncle miltie takin that southern democrat monies that have been washed through 20 PACs

  • 2010

Give me a break Bright votes with the Democratic party the majority of the time….period. Saying otherwise is a complete misrepresentation and you know it.

I find it so amusing that Bright and his supporters run their race by trying to say “look what a republican Bright is” It’s absurd and a fraud.

  • MM

There are a lot of comments above disputing Bright’s voting record in Congress. I really do not care how many times he voted with the Rs or the Ds. The point is you, the voters, do not know how he will vote! Bright may vote the way you want him to on an issue, but is he actively speaking out against the left’s agenda???? NO, he is basically doing nothing! And if he is re-elected will the leaders in the Democratic party allow him to continue to part ways with their party when they no longer have such a majority in the House? No way! If he votes outside of his party when they need his vote, he will basically be stripped powerless in the house which is no good for Alabama. We lose!!! We need someone with conviction, someone who will not only vote in a way that reflects the opinion of the majority of Alabamians, but who fights for us! Bobby Bright is no fighter!

  • link

So is everyone saying that the link 2010 posted which shows Bright voting 73% with Pelosi is wrong? We need to get that site taken down then if it isn’t correct.

  • anonymous

2010. You did not answer the question

  • 2010

What question, anon? Do I work for the party? Heck no. And I agree with MM, Bright is not a leader, not a fighter. He lacks courage to take any kind of stand. How can you when you straddle the fence all the time? Ask him a tough question and he says “let’s not be so partisan.” Ask him if he supports the direction the Democratic leaders are taking the country and he will freeze up and say “I can’t be too political.” It’s such a joke. And we can argue % of votes all you want to but the fact is, he votes with his party, by far, the majority of the time. Voting no on final passage to “big” pieces of legislation when his vote is not needed is being a wimp. Stand up and actually tell us what you believe Bright…. but we know that will not happen.

  • Anonthemoron

Anon @sept 10 7:23pm the NRCC shouldn’t raise their own money and produce their own ads? Such a stupid comment.

  • ElleWoods

If the NRCC continues this abuse to animals, I will have to make another trip to DC to fight for my dear Bruiser’s cousin. Just like I rallied my sorority sisters to help in my campaign for Bruiser’s Bill, I will have to rally them again for Bruiser’s Bill #2. Does anyone know if any animals were hurt in the production of this commercial?

    Oh, the Irony…but seriously, NRCC?

  • Anon

Anonthemoron – do you know what inbreeding is? It’s the same concept that produced Bobly Byrne’s first ad – remember? It’s the one with him hunting on the golf course.

Legislative Dispatch

A Look from the Rearview Mirror

This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session.  For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end.  For others, it was one that ended much too quickly.  It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

Putting Students First

As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
