A member of the ALGOP Executive Committee passes this along:
You need to know the back story on last weekend’s ALGOP meeting. In fact Mike Hubbard and the ALGOP are trying to do everything they can to stay neutral in this run-off. [Robert] Bentley is making it very difficult. During the recount they [...]

I have heard readers (for example, in the comments here) say that at the GOP Summer Dinner Gov. Bob Riley also expressed his preference for Bradley Byrne over Robert Bentley with remarks similar to those made by the evening’s keynote speaker, Dick Morris.
In the clip below, Riley says:
When we get [...]

As you are aware by now, Don Siegleman’s appeal to the US Supreme Court has been sent back to the Court of Appeals with its judgment vacated for reconsideration (AKA “remanded”) in view of their decison of what constitutes honest services.
While some hope this whole matter will dropped, who knows, [...]

Here is Friday night’s debate between GOP gubernatorial runoff candidates Robert Bentley and Bradley Byrne with the audio broken down by question. The original audio came from WAPI’s live internet stream of the debate. (WAPI has the debate available for download or streaming here.)
I very much wanted to throw in some comments below. Perhaps I’ll have a chance to do that yet, but I wanted to go ahead and make this available before we got too far removed from the event and while people were still thinking about it.
Opening Statement

I find it rather remarkable that the keynote speaker at the GOP Summer Dinner, Dick Morris, urged the crowd to vote for one gubernatorial candidate over another in the GOP primary runoff with these words:
I think it’s important that in your gubernatorial Republican primary you support a candidate who supports charter schools. The [...]

“You haven’t done anything! What have you done?” The caller on the line of this talk radio program continued talking. I could not get a word in edgewise. But it started me to thinking. My first thought was to dismiss the caller. This was partly because the caller would not allow me to respond. I wanted to conclude that the caller was [...]

Former Arkansas Governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee endorses Robert Bentley for governor in this new spot from the Bentley campaign. A couple of observations… no matter how they play it, they are going to have a tough time getting folks who know that Robert Bentley made Huckabee’s son-in-law his campaign manager to buy into the idea that it had nothing to do with the endorsement. Legislative DispatchBy Joe Hubbard on June 8, 2011 This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session. For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end. For others, it was one that ended much too quickly. It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

AL House, AL Senate, Legislative Dispatch, Uncategorized | By John Merrill on May 24, 2011 As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
