Democratic incumbent Bill Dukes is withdrawing from the state House District 8 race. The Democrats would have until late summer to replace him on the ballot, but this could have strong implications in the matter of which party controls the House for the next quadrennium.

This is big news. Mike Hubbard should be measuring for curtains in the speakers office after this one.

Good Ridance! Duke should have been long gone!

How many more are going to resign rather than testify before the grand jury?

  • Folsom4ever,
I would truly be shocked if Bill Dukes had any information or involvement with the gambling investigation. On some issues, we were on opposite sides of the fence (and we have had some heated discussions about certain issues), but I can’t imagine him having anything to do with that scandal.

It’s not that easy, Folsom4ever. Resigning won’t keep you from being called by a grand jury.

He’s resigning for family issues. The man is 83 years old and in poor health. It has nothing to do with gambling. Local Dems should announce their new selection by Sunday, and believe me, don’t chalk this one up for the GOP so quickly. The selection has more than just a loyal following in Decatur.

Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
