Flashpoint has pictures of protesters who turned out for tonight’s fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Parker Griffith, Republican nee Democrat, in Huntsville.
Folks on both sides of the political aisle are unhappy with the Congressman. See more on that here at CNN’s Political Ticker, Flashpoint and Left in Alabama.
The national GOP is boosting its party-switching trophy as they can, for example with the appearance of Congressional minority leader John Boehner of Ohio tonight at the fundraisinger, by having Griffith deliver the House Republican Conference’s weekly address, and with endorsements like this one from Rep. Jeff Miller (R – FL) that should keep coming.
I believe that many underestimate how difficult it is to unseat an incumbent, especially one with a warchest, but I find it hard not to believe, at the very least, that Griffith is facing a challenge to keep this seat.
Update: More pictures at Left in Alabama. I also updated the first link to take you to better versions of the pictures.

I do recognize that beating an incumbent is difficult. I hope that
the people are tired of the nonsense and that makes it easier to defeat Griffith.
It will be a real test of the Alabama Tea Party and if the people are really upset with the status quo.
We also have photos up at Left In Alabama. And it was great to see the people from Flashpoint and other political activists tonight. More than 400 people – from left to middle to right – showed up to call Griffith what he is: a liar and a fraud.
LIA photos are here with more coming tomorrow after I’ve had my dinner and a big glass of wine to celebrate the evening:

This is hilarious. Parker Griffith must feel like a fool. And the best part, it sounds like they hardly raised any money. $100 a person in a small room . . . what a joke. All of his money is going to come from national party donors at this point. I am sure the local donors are either done with him or at least waiting to see if he can survive the primary. This guy is a disaster for a Congressman.
It looked to me like the business class was giving to Griffith tonight, judging by the vehicles — some even had business signs on the doors. And the news report I watched included a quote from Dorothy Davidson (MAJOR donor toward the huge Davidson Center that houses the Saturn V rocket in Huntsville) and someone named Cummings, which brings to mind Cummings Research Park in Huntsville.
That’s serious money. The thing is, in a federal campaign these folks can only give $2400 apiece, which is a lot, but the rank and file Republicans are mad as hell at having Griffith foisted off on them. They may not have a lot of money, but it’s possible they can rouse out the numbers for an anti-Griffith candidate. And I will just add that Mo Brooks was there tonight, working the crowd, giving interviews, and his campaign came in with a bunch of yard signs to distribute as well. They’re working this, for sure.
Small correction, northalabamapol: the fundraiser was $100 per couple (only $50 per person).
There WAS NOT even 400 people there, let alone “more than 400,” not by a long shot. I am not sure who taught you to count. Good wishful thinking there.
Additionally, very classy for Mo Brooks to be “campaigning” at a protest rally. Does this guy really have to use Griffith fundraisers as a setting for campaigning? Can he not hold his own fundraisers? It is March. Shouldn’t this guy be having fundraisers on his own?
For someone that’s supposed to be so politically savvy, Mo showing up shows he doesn’t understand national politics. Imagine the committee assignments Boehner will give him if he does win the race. They will make sure he’s a one-term congressman by making him the most ineffective person in DC.
We need congressmen who will stand up to his or hers own party leadership.
Mo Brooks’ willingness to defy Boehner is a plus for Brooks.
The Republican made a huge mistake not getting rid of its failed leadership after 2008.
Boehner deserves to be given the boot.
John,
Mo Brooks has the right to protest too. When we have such a good conservative candidate as Mo Brooks why would the GOP support someone like Griffith? It is pure GOP power mongering for Boehner to come down here and try to manipulate our local election. Mo Brooks was there because he will be elected by the local people not the GOP. We have a representative form of government; so the people should decide. The problem with this country is we look at parties instead of the most qualified candidates. Have you even looked at Mo Brooks? Or are you letting the GOP lead you from that ring in your nose?
AL05Voter,
You obviously don’t know Mo because he is very politically savvy. This is a local election. We get to pick who we want in Washington not the GOP and Mo knows it that is why he was there. I find it morally offensive for Boehner to come down here before our Republican primary to influence our local election at tax-payer expense for a candidate no one in Alabama wants. Washington is too big for its britches and this proves it. When Mo gets elected and if Boehner relegates Mo to trash duty as punishment, Boehner is no friend of Alabama anyway. You better hope Mo gets elected because no one else will fight for Alabama like Mo will.
Boehner doesn’t even know Griffith’s name.
I was not there, but have a few comments:
1. I agree that Mo Brooks should not have attended the event, not because he doesn’t have a right, but because it shows a lack of judgement. As does his voting at the Madison County Republican Executive Committee where he voted YES to the “anit-Griffith” resolution. He had a clear conflict of interest, but still voted in favor.
2. I don’t care how many people were there to protest! The fact that anyone was there is a positive. It is very concerning that Boehner would come here to campaign for an 85% democrat during a primary.
3. Regardless of the “educated voter” sentiment, the average joe voter doesn’t pay attention to what is going on, so Boehner might have actually hurt Griffith by coming because it created a buzz of anti-Griffith news coverage, which will help uneducated masses want to know why, not good for Griffith. He needs people to just get their information about him from his commercials.
4. I hope that even those that were there will ask, where was Les Phillip. The answer, doing what a candidate should have done, attend an event that can actually help him defeat Griffith, and still be welcome in DC, which is getting more difficult all the time.
