Re: Montgomery Advertiser – Bill would require voters to show identification at polls
If Representative Allen’s Photo ID bill, HB227, isn’t passed by our legislature to help prevent some of the voter fraud that takes place in Alabama we can’t hope for honest elections, and without honest elections we can’t hope for honest government. If legislators vote against his bill, those legislatures should be removed from the legislature later this year by their constituents. Voter fraud disenfranchises qualified voters including democrats and blacks. If you don’t believe that, just ask some of the black voters over in and around Hale County.

Not everybody has photo id. And requiring such id discriminates against these people. If even one voter were to lose the right to vote because of this, then the bill is unconstitutional. And, obviously, there are voters who do not have photo id (such as some elderly people who are no longer able to drive).

How can this work in Atlanta, but not in Alabama?

    Anononymous, FYI:

    From page 6 of HB227:
13 Notwithstanding any law to the contrary, the
14 Department of Public Safety shall not charge a fee for the
15 issuance of an original, renewal, or a duplicate of a
16 nondriver identification card for an individual without a
17 valid driver’s license or valid photo identification under
18 this section, who is at least 18 years of age at the next
19 primary, general, municipal, or special election.
20 “(h) The Department of Public Safety shall
21 promulgate rules for the implementation of this act.”

Legislative Dispatch

A Look from the Rearview Mirror

This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session.  For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end.  For others, it was one that ended much too quickly.  It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.

Putting Students First

As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]

Legislative Transparency

There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
