When Milton McGregor says this needs to stop or somebody’s gonna get hurt, that sounds like the type of threats the Bham News reported on earlier that have been made. Scary.

  • doesitmatter

Let’s see “Help is on the Way”…Riley is trying to block 100 million dollars in unemployment monies from the Federal Govt. Most of these people will not qualify because they are part time workers or do not have enough back monthly quarters to qualify, then you factor in the facts that the WIA allotment is all but gone and no monies due into the state until June.. Sounds like Billion Dallor Bob is trying to cover his A…. I thought christians were supposed to help, not provide empty promises!! Oh I forgot…Repubs only play that card during elections!!

  • Troy and Stan

The scandal that is coming is an investigation into Troy King for using his office to prosecute a public official who refused to do what Stan Pate demanded. Stay Tuned

The truth doesn’t matter to “doesitmatter.” Riley’s not blocking unemployment money. Alabama doesn’t qualify for that from the feds because the Legislature hasn’t changed the law yet.

  • doesitmatter

There you go again Big A…Showing your ignorance again!! Alabama DOES qualify for the money, but “holier than thou” Riley said he would VETO any legislation that was passed to change the unemploment laws in Alabama…Where I’m from, that is trying to BLOCK the money!! You should really read a post before you put your brain into motion.

  • Common Sense

The unemployment money is a one time 100 Million that would result in 42 Million a year in increased obligations forever. I will gladly lend anyone here $100 if you agree to pay me $42 a year for eternity.

doesitmatter, YOUR ignorance is showing. You’re completely, 100% wrong. Take the time to look at SJR68 introduced in the last session by Democrat Rodger Smitherman, which calls on Congress to “reconsider and rescind those portion of the federal law that require changes in our state unemployment compensation law in order to receive additional unemployment compensation incentives.” This comes from the sponsor of the bill trying to change Alabama laws so we would qualify for this federal money. Riley’s not blocking it. He doesn’t agree with it, but we can’t get this extra money unless and until the Legislature changes the law, as Smitherman and everybody else who knows a thing about this issue agrees. You might want to become one of them.

Anonymous in #1, I think that some folks would like to have video of state troopers cracking heads. Nothing advances a cause like martyrs and bloody shirts.

You’ve got that right, waltm. Bobby Singleton is hoping this turns into another bloody Sunday. He basically said so on the floor of the Senate today. All to advance the interests of his campaign contributors. Shameful.

Legislative Dispatch

Change

I wish my friend Hinton Mitchem godspeed and good luck after his retirement from public service. Hinton, on Monday, announced what many had suspected — he will not seek re-election. I remember meeting Hinton for the first time while I was a student at Auburn University. He served the people of his [...]

HAPPY FEBRUARY

I’ve tried to follow BINGO rules and BINGO raids.  I’m not sure I understand the law, nor do I get the motives of many of the principal players.  I bet many of you know a heck of a lot more about this than I.  But one thing I am [...]
