Wow. Milton McGreger is hiring goons to follow anyone who crosses him? This is sounding more and more like the Phenix City of old.

  • who else?

My first question when I read about Milton hiring private detectives to follow a law enforcement official was “who else is he spying on? the governor? the gov’s wife? the AG?” seems like the reporter would have asked him who else he was having followed.

  • JD

A hint form Milton to the Legislators? You, your spouse and children are all fair game if gambling money is involved. Phenix City should be required reading. I guess if you thought you were being followed, you could always report it to Troy “Sli Garrett” King.

  • CC Dollar

hint to everyone ..don’t be a hypocrite and you have nothing to worry about…that goes for lieing too, todd stacey…stokes busted barber dead to rights..

  • RegularCitizenGuy

Should public officials not be held under the same scrutiny as private citizens? I would think they need to held to a higher standard. Barber was in Dothan two weeks ago contending that gambling was immoral. Why should his activities NOT be questioned? Put a PI on me anytime. I have nothing to hide.

  • CC Dollar

bet susan wasn’t griping when they put the “goons” on siegleman….surprises me any of the riley lovers are even commenting on this subject..

  • DavidA

If I was folks in the governor’s office I wouldn’t be calling Milton a liar. My guess is that he has more ammo being held in stock pile.

  • who else?

I think someone should put a PI on Milton. It would be interesting to see how many shady casino bosses he’s in cahoots with. Who are the folks that are supposedly part of the Sweet Home Alabama Coalition? It’s more than just him and Gilley. Ask him to open up the books of that organization and let’s see who else is involved.

  • CC Dollar

who else, trade ya to see the books at the alabama policy institute…

  • DavidA

What’s a casino boss? Is a boss a owner or what?

  • DavidA

I proclaim myself as a member if that will help.

Quote: Ask him to open up the books of that organization and let’s see who else is involved.

    The Sweet Home Alabama Coalition.

  • waltm

Well, here you go a copy of the IRS 990, the Alabama Policy Institute filed last year, courtesy of the Foundaton Center’s 990 Finder.

Non-profits file this form with the IRS every year. Its a summary of an org’s income, expenses and services. Some can be quite interesting to read.

  • Susan Fillippeli

CC–there is a significant difference between a law enforcement investigation (e.g. Siegelman) and someone trying to intimidate anyone who disagrees with him by hiring goons to follow people. At least the govt has to follow procedures, whereas there is no telling what McGregor is telling his goons to do. Let’s put it this way, Riley is seeking search warrants in a court of law. McGregor is telling his goons to “dig up stuff” and then threatening people. That’s called blackmail. People go to jail for that.

  • CC Dollar

it was kinda a joke walt…i already know it can’t be proven that they got some of the choctaw money too….

susan, following don around to see if he was cheating on his wife!! give mne a frickin break… and yeah!! put milton in jail!! i’d sure as hell like to see that!!

  • DavidA

McGregor gave Riley an opportunity to save some face. Maybe next time just release the info and the pictures. I assure you. Stokes has pictures.

  • Anonymous

    Susan-
why does Riley’s Task Force need search warrants? The facilities are public, otherwise people could not go in and engage in the activity complained of. Once law enforcement is inside, if the machines are as illegal as the Task Force claims they are, they can be seized just like any other illegal contraband in plain view. What am I missing? Or is the Task Force worried that the machines just may not be as plainly illegal as they claim, so they want the cover of a search warrant?

  • RegularCitizenGuy

Susan, if its a “private” investigation, how is that intimidating. And I’ll ask the question again, if you have nothing to hide, why be afraid of someone watching you? Was Barber doing anything illegal? No. Was he being hypocritical? I think so. If it weren’t a big deal, why did he (Barber) feel the need to resign? For the record, if who I think it was was investigating, LOL, he’s far from being a goon!

  • Transferred to Alabama

If certain POLICITCOS were as upstanding and honest as they PREACH to the people of this State on a daily basis; They would have absolutely NO PROBLEM with the constituents knowing their whereabouts 24/7. They are public figures who sought offices not privacy!!

Mr McGregor is a private citizen, the Governor and Barber are NOT!! They are held to promises, commitments and statements they WILLING SWORE TO UP HOLD!!

  • RegularCitizenGuy

    Wow, Transferred.

I think you’re on to something here.

  • GrammyTrucker

Susan there is a big difference between a “squad of goons with hundreds of automatic weapons” (most of which I would guess did not want to be there) and a single reporter ‘armed with only a camera and a tablet and pen (or computer).

The Task Force intent was not to ‘investigate’, but to confiscate! They were invited TO INVESTIGATE BEFORE the opening! Problem with that is there would be no possible way of learning if the machines were legal or illegal if cut from the entire Server Base. Without the machines linked together by the server it would deem them on a totally different view from how they work within the entire system. Best it could do is put hundreds of thousand of dollars into the State Coffers, by default of CONFISCATION, and on a ‘one time’ basis.

Not only would this result in loss of Charitable Donations and Taxes, but would also put an entire Family Music Entertainment Vacation Destination out of business. Which was the entire intent of the 3AM assault that was stopped just in time.

Those that think Charitable Gambling is bad, think of the jobs, schools, charities, city, county and state coffers that can and will be refilled.
There is no other large employer in the area to help the people that are suffering without jobs.

How many of you people have not yet received your State Tax Refund…from LAST year?

Susan: Know the definition of a word before you so cavalierly throw it into a debate

    black·mail [blák màyl]: n
    1. use of SECRETS to compel: the act of forcing somebody to pay money or do something by threatening to reveal shameful or incriminating facts about him or her.

Do you know for a fact anyone was Threatened? And Mr Barber’s action were not a SECRET>>

Mr McGregor is not Guilty of Blackmail. He was exercising his 1st AMENDMENT RIGHT OF FREE SPEECH to report on an activity WITNESSED in a PUBLIC ARENA. He has publicly stated that he hates Hippocrates. He probably thought it was his moral and social obligation to report his findings to the CONSTITUENTS of the State.

IMHO – I not only believe Mr. Barber is a HIPOCRATE but should be brought up on ETHICS CHARGES.

  • Susan Fillippeli

There sure are a lot of folks defending McGregor. Let’s not forget how deeply he was involved in the Larry Langford corruption–including rigging his machines to pay off for Langford. It is pretty clear he is willing to do anything, pay off anyone, and threaten anyone to get what he wants.

And speaking of hypocrisy–give me a break. The whole “electronic bingo” thing is a fraud. I’ll make a deal with you folks. If you will be honest about the fact that these are slot machines, I’ll support your efforts to pass an amendment to let Alabamians vote on legalizing slot machines. Heck, let’s even vote on table games and the lottery. I’ll be out front on letting the people vote as long as we are honest on what this vote is about. When you are honest about your intent then you can accuse other people of hypocrisy and not a minute before.

  • anonymous56

Note to citizen guy, the argument works both ways: if gilley has nothing to hide, and all “slots” are legal, why block the raid? Why not throw the doors open? Answer: most likely because there is something to hide.

  • citizenKenDHN

Note to anonymous56: If you knew that someone was goint to come to your business in the middle of the night and demolish it, wouldn’t you try to stop them? If you wouldn’t do all in your power to protect your business, your employees and your customers, you’re a bigger fool than I thought you were, and that’s almost beyon my comprehension.

  • RegularCitizenGuy

Note to anonymous56, the Governor has been invited to Country Crossing as well as the local District Attorney. Neither accepted. CC simply wanted the machines to be inspected on site, as opposed to being confiscated (with the money in the machines at the time of confiscation) thereby shutting down the business while it was being determined if said machines met the legal criteria. If it were me responsible for overhead and the salaries of 1300 employees, I’d prefer the first option. No one is trying to hide the machines, they’re just wanting to protect them. If you lived in a state requiring your car to be inspected, would you rather have it inspected willingly, or have the militia raid your house, seize it, and possibly damage it as it’s towed away leaving you without the use of your vehicle or it’s contents for an unknown period of time ?

  • Transferred to Alabama

When a person openly states one thing BUT their actions are: contradictory, differing, reverse, contrary, opposed, contrasting; They are a HYPOCRATE. or (HIPO_CRATE – Big Fat Liar)

I do not define the word Hypocrisy – WEBSTER’S Does!! But I can discern with comprehension the correct verbiage of a word and use it’s meaning to debate. (without certain people’s permission)

If a politician says – One thing BUT his action Prove the opposite – What Do you Call That???

Personally, I think Hypocrite is a much more socially accepted word than LIAR.

The final argument boils down to PUBLIC (Barber, Riley) versus PRIVATE (McGregor) citizen and in whom the obligation to the public is legally demanded.
