Sparks Announces New Additions to Campaign Staff
Cites commitment to creating good-paying jobs and investing in our school children
Today Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ron Sparks announced new additions to his campaign staff. Sparks named Sharon Wheeler his campaign manager. Wheeler, a veteran of Alabama politics and government, most recently served as Chief of Staff to Congressman Parker Griffith of Huntsville. For nearly a decade prior she served as Chief of Staff to the President Pro Tem of the Alabama Senate, where she coordinated efforts for the Alabama Senate Democratic Caucus.
“We are both committed to creating good-paying jobs by investing in our school children,” Sparks said. “We are both committed to ensuring Alabama taxpayers get a dollar’s worth of service for a dollar’s worth of taxes. We believe in investing in new jobs, investing in our children, and holding state government accountable for every dime it spends. That’s the focus that Sharon Wheeler shares with me and the dedication she will bring to our campaign.”
Wheeler, an attorney, also previously worked for Alabama Power Company and for the Alabama Trial Lawyers Association. She is a 20-year veteran of Alabama state, federal and local political campaigns and also serves as an elected member of the State Democratic Executive Committee.
“I am proud of the courage and vision that Ron Sparks has demonstrated while serving as Commissioner of Agriculture and Industries, and I am very honored to be a part of the effort to elect him Alabama’s next Governor. I have seen firsthand the work that Commissioner Sparks has done to promote economic development, create jobs and move Alabama forward, and I know he will bring that same work ethic and effective leadership to the Governor’s office,” Wheeler said.
Also joining the Sparks team as a consultant is Rick Dent. Dent, of PR Strategies, Inc., has represented corporations, political campaigns and elected officials, including three southern governors, Mississippi Governor Ray Mabus, Georgia Governor Zell Miller and Alabama Governor Don Siegelman.

Is Sharon Wheeler that good to be as sought after as she appears to be? And I’m referring to being good at campaigns and politics, boys…keep it clean.
In other news, Ron Jeremy has joined Sparks’ campaign as Pornstache Consultant.
Attorney, Trial Lawyers Assn., and Alabama Power! WOW, this should really gain Ronnie some support! At least he’s got Loyal’s “girl” back in town!
Is she going to bring the same level of professionalism and consistency that she brought to Griffith’s DC office?
Now that Sparks has hired key staff from Democrat turned Republican Parker Griffith and Democrat turned crazy Republican booster Zell Miller, I expect to hear only stunned silence from the “Artur Davis isn’t enough of a Democrat” crowd.
Nice mention of Doc’s in this Bham News story. Congrats.

What are Zeb, Bedford and Smitherman to do now that Dent can’t write the same opeds for the three stooges.
Didn’t you hear, one of Smitherman’s 35 — 35! — employees does that for them now.
To be fair, Mooncat, Sparks’ hires left their employers when they changed parties. Davis hired the guy that not only stuck with Griffith, but illegally downloaded voter files.

Thanks! It was a nice mention. (Huntsville Times not B’ham News, but all nice all the same!)
To be fair, SanfordDem, Davis also fired Main Street Strategies and had a press release out advertising it less than 3 hours after the ADP accused Ceci of illegally downloading proprietary information. Joey has worked for both sides over the years and he has good knowledge of the local North Alabama markets, but I always figured Davis hired him as much to keep him from working for the opposition as anything else. He’s somebody you don’t want working for the other guy. That’s purely my opinion, worth the price charged.
And I wasn’t aware Zell Miller had officially changed parties — thought he still claimed to be a Dem. When did Dent stop working for him?
