How much are Artur’s Washington moneymen willing to pay to get Sparks to run in a District he is Not a resident of?

  • InTheMiddle

Bobby Bright was not a resident of AL-2 until months before the election and it was never an issue that the AL GOP used in their favor. Will they be mute if Sparks does the same?

  • Baudrillard

Not true, ITM. Bright bought a condo in downtown Montg and moved out of his east Montg home before he announced his candidacy. After the election, he built a house in Elmore Cty, but he lived in the District during the campaign.

Go for it Ron. I think even Sparks knows he’s very unlikely to become Governor, but running for Congress would be a real race. Griffith is very possibly damaged goods now, and you can’t tell me that Mo Brooks or Wayne Parker would be a favorite over Sparks.

The choice is either a good chance at being the next congressman versus virtually no chance to be Governor.

    Do the right thing Ron.

Sparks and Bright is a terrible comparison. Bright’s roots ran deep in that district, not true for Sparks. Sparks will get waxed if he runs in CD-5, but at least he’ll get through the primary, which is more than he could say for himself in the Governor’s race.

S has it nailed. Sparks loses in the general, but that will give him a couple of more months to find another taxpayer funded job. Most likely scenario: Sparks agrees to drop out, with a condition that someone, anyone, will ensure he has a government job after he loses in November.

  • Hmmmm… Which way will the wind be blowing in a couple of days?

What is the over/under on how many more races Sparks has to vie for before he finds a winnable one? First Lt Gov, then Gov, now (possibly) CD-5! Is there an incumbent dog catcher in Ft. Payne he’s afraid of facing or what?

  • anonymous

Sparks would not be able to qualify for dog catcher. Due to safety concerns, dog catcher’s aren’t allowed to sport a stache.

Cousin Ronnie told me that he really wanted to be on the Supreme Court, but they said you have to have some sort of license. I told him I had a license in my pocket.

Ronnie Sparks has no chance of being Governor. About as little chance of being elected to Congress. Reason: (1) He don’t live in the district. Never has, never will. (2) IF he wins the primary, he can’t beat the republican. (3) OBAMA CARE. If the republicans have any political smarts, and I think they do, they’ll play the speech he made in Hunstville on every T.V. and Radion Station in the district, proclaiming his support for OBAMA CARE. He said let everyone hear him, and let there be no mistake, he’s for OBAMA CARE! The vast majority of the voters in the district/state are opposed to OBAMA CARE! (4) MONEY. The DNC won’t pour the money to his race, like he thinks they will. He needs to ask Joe Turnham about this! Right Joe? (5) What the HELL would he do if he were to get elected?

  • Me In The 5th

Say it ain’t so!!! If Sparks gets out of the Gov. race, who’ll look after the teachers in our state? The children?? Who’ll build us a casino in every community? Who’ll give us a lottery? We won’t be able to survie if Sparks don’t make it to the Gov. office! Our whole world is caving in! No, No, No!!

  • anonymous

Goat Hill is right on one point, the DCCC may come with $100k, but they are not bringing the house on this race. Numbers don’t lie, obamacare will be a huge burden on the Dems and this one will be a GOP win with Sparks as the Democratic nominee, and really haven’t heard a name that would move those numbers.

  • 2010

ron sparks will do about anything to try and continue feeding at the public trough. however, he has no chance of winning Gov or CD 5.

  • princeliberty

The question for Sparks is – would he rather lose in a primary for Governor or lose in the General Election for Congress?

  • Jarod

Looks like Sparks is out. So who is it going to be with out him and Susan Parker? Again I wonder if it’s Tom Butler.

  • M

Sparks is out. Susan Parker is not going to run from the looks of it. Looks like Paseur, Raby, or Bud Cramer

Regardless of Political Stripes Vote Tomorrow

As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]

My Time is Up

I write this blog with some mixed emotion. Over the last eight years I have served in the House of Representatives, and this Thursday will most likely be my last day in session as a House member. Of course, my term goes until November, and there could always be a special session at [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
