Oh Goody! Sweet Susan will again offer herself to be a candidate, and continue to feed from the public trough! Of course, someone has to support her dead beat husband! I guess Public Service Commission is a more glorified form of welfare, and it’s pays better!
Kristopher, she’s already sought higher office, if you’ll remember. She ran for U.S. Senate against Jeffery Sessions. He beat her like a yard dog!!!! I’m sure she’ll now settle for the sure thing, and continue to get the regular check! I doubt she’ll gamble again!
I am not even sure what the PSC does but Susan Parker seems like a much better public official than the rest of the bunch like Jim Sullivan, Jan Cook, and Lucy Baxley.
Goat Hill,
Who cares about her husband Paul? Double standard b/c she is a woman. You are not getting on Patsy Riley b/c she doesn’t work any wife of a male politician. Also, he is a retired teacher.
Also, Anyone that knows Susan knows she is one of the few good politicians. Anytime you need her you can get her on the phone.
Goat Hill, seems a bit weak that your beef against Susan Parker is that her paycheck comes out of public funds – like Bob Riley’s, Jim Folsom’s, Troy King’s, and your legislators’ paychecks do.
I know Susan and Paul very well. I can say with conviction that both are thoughtful, compassionate and hard-working individuals who have served the public and this state well. I am delighted to know that Susan will run again since she is fair-minded and has been effective and innovative as a PSC Commissioner starting the Consumer Education Initiative: http://blog.al.com/jkennedy/2008/04/susan_parkers_high_profile_not.html
Goat Hill, everyone knows who you are, so your bias is noted. How’s that blog of yours going by the way? Why did you shut that down? Might want to take that arrogance off of your shoulder, maybe it is because you are irrelevant these days.
I’ll echo the anonymous poster that a) everyone knows who you are and b) no one has a problem with your opinions, it’s the way you choose to express them.
I’ll say again, and glad to see agreement from others on both sides of the aisle that Susan is one of the good ones (and yes, I’m well aware she has run for higher office before).
Anonymous & Kristopher,
So, by knowing who I am makes a difference in whether or not I can express my opinion?
Wally,
There are plenty of them just like Susan Parker! Two of them are on the Public Service Commission with her. That’s just my opinion, and I know there’ll be those who won’t like it. But, the last time I checked, I’m still entitled to it.
Mark said it all! We are indeed fortunate to have such an intelligent, capable, fair-minded, and forward-thinking person in Alabama politics. I am delighted that Dr. Parker is running again for Public Service Commissioner. I just wish, along with Jusra Nostra, that she were running on a gubernatorial ticket with Jim Folsom.
Goat Hill, differences of opinion are welcome and can be found throughout the blog. I have long echoed the thought that free speech is enhanced by civility. To that point, I don’t see that gratuitous insults are an expression of a difference of opinion as much as they are mean-spirited non sequiturs.
I do agree. I see you didn’t post that same message to those who called me names, and slung insults toward me. Maybe the rules apply differently to different folks? Seems just like good Ole Alabama Politics to me. If I can say that without offending or insulting anyone!!
Goat Hill, you appeared to take umbrage at some responses to your remarks, and you offered what felt a bit like a disingenuous defense that you were merely stating a difference of opinion. I was responding directly to that, which means I was responding directly to you. The point to be made is that, despite what you claimed, a difference of opinion is welcome. I didn’t address that to anyone else because no one else in the thread seemed to miss that point.
Alabama just finished one of the bizarre primary election cycles in recent memory. I mean really, who would have ever thought 12 months ago that Ron Sparks and Robert Bentley would have been facing off against one another for the big prize? Both men are personal friends but I think even they had to [...]
As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]
I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night. I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days. I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
One of my favorite people in Alabama politics. Glad she’s running, hope she seeks higher office someday.

Goat Hill you are a steaming pile of manure. And I am a Republican. Your comments are beneath comtempt.
I agree with Nope! Susan Parker has been the best PSC Commissioner. Much better than Sullivan, Cook, and Baxley.
Goat Hill is a moron. Susan Parker is a fine lady and a good public servant. She is the only Democrat I will vote for in 2010.
She should be running for LtGov while LtJim is running for Gov…what could have been…

They should all be a lot more like Susan Parker.

Nice to see all of the workers from Parker’s former Cotton Plantation still like her.

Will Susan Parker replace Paul Hubbert?

There are rumors that Susan Parker would be in the running when Hubbert retires. I think you can take Mac McArthur off that list.
