George Flowers Forms Campaign Committee for SD 29

George Flowers for SD29Dothan businessman George Flowers says in a release (.pdf), “I feel myself being called to run more and more each day” for the Senate District 29 seat held by Harri Anne Smith (R – Slocomb).

He announces in his release the names of those on his principal campaign committee that he filed with the state once he crossed the $10,000 funrdaising threshold.

Note in the image accompanying the release (shown here) his not-so-subtle dig at incumbent Harri Anne Smith with the phrase, “A Republican You Can Trust.” After Smith lost to Jay Love in the runoff for the Republican nomination for the AL-02 Congressional seat in 2008, she earned the ire of many GOP loyalists when she endorsed Democrat Bobby Bright in the general election.

Flowers’ announcement (and others) may be found here in the Political Parlor’s section on press releases.

Flowers has some impressive names on his committee that seem to be former Smith supporters. The Everett contribution is also interesting. Looks like Harri Anne is stuck with only Ernest T. Gilley and Paul Hubbert in her corner.

Yeah, Malone, Dove, Coleman and Shaw bring some weight. Definitely a bonus in the district, much more than Gilley, insert washed up country singer name here and Ricky Stokes.

  • 2010

Go George Go !!! Smith has lost support in Houston County (where the votes are) and Geneva County is fading fast. I am not sure if all the Gilley and Wiregrass Live folks can save her or not…. we will see.

george stands beside the anti country crossing gang at calvery baptist church then months later at harri ann’s headquarters tells me he has met privatly with ronnie gilley and now supports the CC project……sounds like a flip flopper to me…at least he flopped in the right direction, i guess…

  • Old Prosecutor

    Wonder who is calling him?

  • Mr. Jinks

Which ever way you look at it, it’s never a good thing to have significant opposition in your primary, especially when one of the reasons is because you endorsed a democrat.

Interesting that Smith and Troy King are now in similar positions. Also interesting that they share the same base of support.

    Can Gilley save them both?

  • Pineywood

This’ll be fun. Northwest Dothan’s self-proclaimed political machine decides to scratch Georgie’s back. Senator Smith has pulled the hatchet out of her back from her former #1 supporter. And GF says to trust him???? What will happen when the citizens of S 29 *turn their back* for a second?

  • 2010

hatchet in the back is smith’s specialty. that is why she has lost her base of support. you guys re write history every week.

It is ok, CC, jealous because you can’t get out of the pawn shop to go to the bahamas I guess. Pathetic. You and Pineywood’s quick reaction proves that Harri Anne is in big, big trouble. When the folks in your actual senate district begin to revolt, not sure Ronnie Gilley and his wiregrasslive army in Enterprise can save you. Adios Mrs. Smith.

  • Pineywood

2010…Oh just wait. George’s *history* will come out soon enough.

Since CC likes to drop names a little google searching turned up who CC Dollar is at wiregrasslive.com and tiny Tim is RG’s biggest buddy on blogs all over the state. Look at his posts and you’ll see he visits every newspaper and tells all of his WGL buddies to write in to them too. A small vocal minority with keyboards making all these comments all over the state on articles everywhere. Hoping RG gives him a pawn shop out at Country Crossing as payback of all the misinformation and lies he and WGL spreads? Some of these same WGL posters are on the payroll for gilley. imagine that! Search it for yourself and you’ll see this is all public information on WGL.

Sound a lot like Birmingham’s former, now FELON, Mayor’s program of PAID talk show callers.

Just another cottaege industry that has sprung up.

  • 2010

i can tell that harri anee smith and her buddies will run a negative campaign against Flowers from day one…. then when she gets it back… she will whine just like she did in the Congressional race. This has gotten so old.

  • Pineywood

2010….Negative campaign? Senator Smith will campaign for Senator Smith. GF will attack her to avoid exposing his own dirty laundry and business agenda. That’s just how ya’ll operate. Spin it anyway you like but to think the supporters of Senator Smith will just stand by and watch George Flowers use his *Slash and Burn* Neo-Con campaign tactics then you are naive….Like I’ve said, this will be fun.

sorry for my part…just hard not to get nasty when when they get nasty…i’ve already bit half my tounge off..guess i’ll work on the other half.. : )

  • 2010

i did not see the comments danny removed but I am not surprised. like i said – this is already ridiculous. and to think smith will run a positive campaign.???..we shall see. i hope this site does not end up like wiregrass live … it is like jerry springer on line

  • CC Dollar

thats funny coming from someone who has been negatively campaigning again smith for some time now.. you are going to get just what you’ve been asking for, trust me….

  • 2010

it is not negative to say she sold out to gilley. to say she shopped her congressional endorse around and the fact that she lacks the sense and the effort that senate district 29 deserves. truth hurts. call it negative if you like.

  • DavidA

I wouldn’t count Harri Anne out just yet. The good ole boy’s will have a fight on their hands.

  • concernedvoter

anyone looked into the connection between the president of the charitable foundation at CC and Ronnie Gilley? As in he was on Gilleys payroll before he took the job. It’s just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

  • anonymous

All of the financial webs will be very interesting come January. Harri Anne knows money is the key, but will she be able to match Flowers dollar for dollar? Everyone knows that Smith didn’t have 20,000 folks at the fundraiser with the washed up country stars, so Gilley must have dropped a ton on Harri.

It will be an interesting race for sure.
