Today’s special election for Birmingham’s fourth mayor in months is being held on a rainy day. Or perhaps the heavens are crying over the whole affair.
WadeonBirmingham has “Last-Minute Thoughts on a Hurry-up Mayoral Election” that is worth checking out for those with interest in the matter.
I’ll be surprised if Patrick Cooper isn’t easily leading the field at the end of the day. He raised and spent more than the rest of the 13 person field combined and was a regular on the airwaves in an uninspiring campaign. None of the other candidates had the resources to grab the voters’ attention – or the time in the short campaign to overcome the lack of resources.
Special election. Rainy day. Who knows.
At least if Stephen Hoyt wins, the city gets “neighborhood street lightning.” Sounds dangerous, but c’mon, how cool would that be?

Thanks to reader P for the Hoyt flier.

It is shocking what Hoyt wants to do to the neighborhoods!
Thanks, Danny. Hope to see a big turnout despite the weird date and bad weather.
