Who Gets the Iron Bowl Tickets?

A reader writes:

Is it possible to get a list of ALL public officials (elected, appointed, etc.) who were given free AU/AL Game tickets? Who paid for the tickets and what is the actual value of each ticket? Did spouses also receive free tickets? Did taxpayers pay for a special reception, etc?

I imagine a lot of people would enjoy knowing the answers to these questions.

The same public officials that recieve free tickets to the Birmingham Civic Center?

i figured they all got free tickets if they wanted them…..and i really don’t see a big deal if they did……i think they should all be offered tickets to this one game and also to be able to bring a limited number of family members, even toddy!…..now taxpayers footing the bill for a special reception..don’t think i’d go along with that….

Might be entertaining to compare free tickets to whom for the Iron Bowl vs. the Turkey Day Classic vs. the Magic City Classic.

The intersection of the three subsets might be enlightening.

Even UAB gives Legislators Free Tickets, which they could have recieved free at the local supermarket

Well, all of that info. is public record, if anyone has big enough gonads to pursue it and get it! We’ll just have to see!!!!!!

Each one gets two tickets no reception.. That’s it. Face value of the tickets

So what? I think it is a nice thing to do. AU or UA are certainly under no obligation to do it.

this is not a big deal. they are public universities and they gave members of the state legislature and certain other elected officials a couple of tickets each. now if they start giving them tickets to bowl games and paying for their meals and travel then sure we have a problem then. but as of now….we have much bigger issues to face that something as trivial as this.

Again, this means nothing to anyone that pays a dime for taxes in Alabama. 20 for the gov’s office is nothing. it was 100 under Guy, Jim, & Fob in the 90’s (but then Bub Mitchell was the lead lobbyist for AU then).

If that is all they steal, maybe we should set the line at that point.

So, is the upshot, rank has it’s privileges when it comes to a quasi-public resource?

I serve as a state representative and received two tickets. Have received Iron Bowl tickets since I was elected in 2006 and a parking pass. I have never used these but passed along to family and friends. I have also received Alabama Homecoming tickets in the past and always give those away.

The value of 2 tickets and a pass would come under $250 per Legislator. This is nothing compared to the fact that a lobbyist can give a Legislator gifts of up to $250/day without reporting said gift, a possible value of around $90,000/year.

Whining about this is trivial, compared to the greater problem. Which is the lack of accountability that the Democrats refuse to address.

If you sell the Iron Bowl Tickets and you are a legislator your should never get them again.

I’m sure plenty have been sold for much more than $250
