  • Yay — you’re back!

  • Woo-hoo! Fun! Thanks, Kathy!

And just in time to document another humiliating defeat for the Troy King/Ronnie Gilley/Milton McGregor/White Hall crowd. Guys, after a federal judge, two circuit judges and now the Supreme Court say this isn’t bingo, don’t you think it’s time to stop pretending?

  • Anonymous

Oh, I forgot to include Randy Brinson in with the Troy King/Ronnie Gilley/Milton McGregor/White Hall crowd. He’s a key player in their casino plans.

That ruling isn’t going to turn out to be what the Mississippi Choctaws and Riley thinks it is.

  • Reality

Really, anon? How do you figure that? Seems pretty clear cut. But I’m open to you proving how it won’t turn out to be what the Governor thinks it will be.

Let’s hear it, why is this ruling insignificant?

  • CC Dollar

as i’ve said before, whitehall has been illegal from the start…king himself said so back in 05 for crying out loud!!….this ruling was no big surprise to anyone except the riley anti bingo supporters who will soon realize how little this ruling will effect country crossing and victoryland….so you fellows enjoy another feel good moment..it won’t last for long..

    HOUSTON COUNTY COMMISSION
    PRESS RELEASE
    NOVEMBER 13, 2009

Today, the Supreme Court issued a ruling related to electronic charitable bingo in the State of Alabama, giving clear guidelines for the operation of bingo. As we have stated from day one, bingo in Houston County will abide by the law of the State and the Regulations of the County Commission. The guidelines established today by the Alabama Supreme Court will be used to make sure any operation is legal and I have been assured by the operators at Country Crossing that the machines there will comply with the Supreme Court guidelines.

It is concerning, however, that the Governor’s office continues to take joy in the potential loss of thousands of Alabama jobs at a time when our State has the tenth highest unemployment rate and the third highest unemployment growth rate in the country. Yesterday, 704 workers at Country Crossing were glad to have a job providing for their families. The citizens of Houston County continue to express their support of the economic impact of Country Crossing, with many suppliers reaping benefits from the construction and services provided. Instead of gloating over what they misinterpret as the elimination of bingo that could cost charities in the State millions of dollars, our State leaders need to show the resolve to legislatively fix and regulate this industry for the benefit of all Alabama citizens.

We are committed to making Country Crossing a reality in Houston County, not because of bingo, but because we represent and will fight for the hundreds of workers at Country Crossing, their families and the citizens of Houston County.

    Mark Culver, Chairman
    Houston County Commission

  • Better late than never.

Particularly when we are speaking of fires in nuclear reactors. I’m still wondering why the local Huntsville area news media will not report this important story. The news story link is from the Mobile Press Register involving Browns Ferry Nuclear Plant in Athens, Alabama. Seems it is more important to hide the truth rather than report it. http://blog.al.com/live/2009/11/tva_nuclear_plant_has_fire_res.html

NRC, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, once again, is not happy with TVA’s lapse in nuclear safety protocol at Browns Ferry.

Here is my latest “radioactive” installment concerning “TVA’s Nuclear Sinkhole.” http://arklite.blogspot.com/2009/11/tvas-nuclear-inkhole.html

Jobs being lost at the speed of light – Alabama in top ten states of most unemployed – our highest unemployment rate in a quarter-century – education budgets in second year of deep proration and headed for a deeper third year – $13 million no-bid contract goes to a “ghost” company – and all the while, Riley’s unexlained obsession remains tilting at bingo windmills. FOB!!! WHERE ARE YOU WHEN WE NEED YOU!!!

  • anonymous

Hey, CC, if you guys are convinced what you’re doing done there is legal, then why does the press release say y’all are afraid you’re going to lose those jobs? Y’all don’t sound very convincing.

  • anon

Reality, see what I mean now? The supreme court just legitimized electronic bingo providing it meets the 6 conditions. Now there will be new ones (as evidenced by the news tonight) springing up everywhere.

The Mississippi Indians and Riley are going to have to go back to the drawing board, or court rooms on this one – unless he thinks somehow it will work that he can just keep calling gambling machine manufacturers and commssions all over the country saying that in “his opinion”, it’s illegal.
