An article of interest: “House health care reform bill fails on crucial points” by Congressman Bobby Bright can be read @ http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20091109/OPINION0101/911080311/1006/opinion
Hey CC, Seems Bradley Byrne may be swinging your direction. I always thought Byrne was anti-gambling, one of the things I liked about him. But, alas he’s now holding campaign events at a pool hall with “Nightly Poker tournaments on our professional poker tables.” Guess he’s just against some gambling. Anything for a vote, forget values! So CC hop on over to Montgomery and DejaVu Billiards on December 1 at 5:30.
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=169507717863
Post 2 – Byrne is anti-gambling on a personal level, but has said publicly he would put it to a popular vote. I don’t see how having a “Town Hall style meeting” at Deja Vu Billiards has anything to do with his stance on gambling in this state. To me, this shows he is willing to get in front of those individuals in this state who are pro-gambling and answer their questions and talk about the issues. It’s not vote pandering; it’s called making yourself available to ALL citizens of this fine state even if they have differing views.
#3 i have no problem with byrne holding a campaign anywhere he wishes…as long as he isn’t lieing through his teeth about anything just let him go on about his business….i’m not like the anti gaming crowd dwelling on the small stuff.. don’t tell me you wanna eat your own because of something petty like that??
“it’s called making yourself available to ALL citizens of this fine state even if they have differing views.”
yep..you got it!..simular to what harri anne did down here in our area..
Hope he not take wampum from Big Chiefs over in
Mississippi… Some speak with forked tongue..
Where were the Poarch Creek when Custer was attacked?
Where there any major battles involving the Poarch Creek or where they just in the woods tossing the dice? 8 ball in the corner pocket…..
here ya go chief…educate yourself..make sure you get down to the last paragraph..

Chef, Are you saying Bradley Byrne now wants to let the people vote on electonic-bingo which he says is gambling? Seems like a new position. He has said he’s not in favor of a vote on that issue. I would be very surprised as would a lot of others.
Derek, you guys in the Byrne Communications shop need to stay on message. Is Marty having trouble keeping the troops in line? I guess it’s hard to do that when Billy isn’t making every decision for you.
I agree with FactFinder, I remember Byrne announcing the gambling was illegal and had no place in this state. I guess he saw the poll numbers and thought a nice John Kerry-style Flip Flop was in order.
My apologies…he said public vote on a lottery.
Thanks.
bobby bright is all talk and no action. he never takes a stand. he is the biggest fence straddler I have seen on a long time. in his release he cites many things he would like to see in a health care bill – those things were addressed by the republican amendment (Boehner substitute) that Bright voted against. He always votes against GOP legislative moves yet doesn’t want anyone to know it.
CC Me knowum alla time.. don’t trust paleface Byrne..
Think he drink funny colored kool aid..
Good to see the hilarious “Indian talk” here in the comments section (#6 and 12). I look forward to the stereotypical “black accent” and the wacky “south of the border” dialects. That sort of thing is more common over at the Montgomery Advertiser comments section, but it’s reassuring that it permeates the campaign talk over here too.
Byrne no Paleface. He lead own tribe. Tribe know him as Chief Taxahika. He scalp Palefaces who want to keep more of own wampum.
Buffalo ranchers used to thrive in Baldwin County before Chief Taxahika imposed feed taxes, hide taxes, herd taxes, calf taxes, hoof taxes, horn taxes and additional fees on vet bills, grazing acreage and fencing by the half-yard.
Where has Doc been?
CC and Chef, Bradley Byrne should meet with all citizens, but you don’t patronize gambling establishments if you’re truly anti-gambling. Talk-the-talk, walk-the-walk. There are 100 places in the area he can meet with these patriots. The billiard boss is drumming up business. Good for him, but Byrne doesn’t have to help him do it. That’s supporting gambling. I’m not a one issue voter. I’m still hoping for a real conservative though.
Is it true that Burn has a long history with a law firm that’s neck deep in casinos and Indian gambling? I keep hearing this as the truth.
if would do byrne good if he’d get on the right side of the bingo issue and at least push for a vote by the people….sounds like he could be headed in that direction…
Johnnbgoode,
I looked online for Byrne’s law firm. Was not on his bio and could not find it with a quick search. I would thought that would easy information to find.
What would he not give the name of his old firm?
Does anyone know it?
Thanks.
Guess if you repeat it often enough, a statment it become the truth. A method that has always worked since about what, the days of bipedal ambulation?
Old firm was Miller, Hamilton out of Mobile. Head of firm was the recently deceased Jack Miller, head of Democratic Party, Auburn board of Trustees, and personal confidante to Bobby Lowder.
The company you keep.
No let’s get the name of Byrne’s old firm and then it will be no problem to check out what the firm’s been up to.
Miller, Hamilton, Snider and Odom of Mobile was his old law firm.
They have merged with http://www.joneswalker.com/.
And its a big corporate law firm.
http://www.joneswalker.com/news-room-943.html
And look not does it do “gaming” law it has lawyers who are experts.
So yes anti-gambling Byrne old firm had big time gambling ties.
Also, not that attorney I referenced used to work for the Alabama AG.
So again this goes back to gaming interests ties to AG’s office.
So once again Bryne’s friends and record demonstrate he no true conservative but a empty who out to get ahead.
princeliberty – take your meds, please.
2010,
His old firm which actually left in 2007 works with gaming interests in a big way.
You need to deal with that fact.
Byrne left Miller Hamilton for Adams and Reese back in the 90s (not sure exactly when). He never had any dealings with Jones Walker or that merger. Get your facts straight next time.
i agree…byrne can’t help what they do after he’s gone…i don’t see a big deal even if he was there when the gaming lawyer came on board….
prince – by your own words you said byrne’s OLD firm. Give it a rest.
maybe he can have a campaign event at country crossing soon since evidently he’s open to having those events at gaming establishments….
I have heard with my own ears the no-electronic-bingo-anywhere-anytime position of Byrne and James. They both have repeatedly said in media interviews that they fully support Riley’s position, which is that it is all illegal, and he opposes the people being allowed to vote because they have already voted once. Since the only votes that have ever been held on electronic bingo have all passed – 18 of them – I guess Riley is referring to Siegelman’s lottery referendum, which of course, was not and is not an electronic bingo vote. Is CC Dollar correct in his recent comments that Byrne is now changing his position? What about James and Moore?
i believe this was my comment, hoss..
“sounds like he could be headed in that direction… ”
i would hope james and moore won’t be much of a factor…
Byrne’s law firm represented Gaming WHEN he was there.
Jones Walker did not have its own offices in the states until the merger.
Alabama the gaming clients were already in place.
By the way Adams and Reese is the other principle law firm in the state that represents gaming interests!
And as Chancellor – Byrne gave the lobbying contract for the system to – Jones Walker law firm!

Also, its not singular gaming attorney. The law firm represents many gaming interests across the country and in Alabama.
I brought him up because he was in the Alabama AG’s office so there’s a direct linke to gaming interests influence in AG’s office.

Kowabunga !!! Paleface Byrne must have some Injun traiing. He very sneaky… Must be scout. Maybe he Tonto and Troy King Lone Ranger.. Kemo Sabe !! Ride em cowboy !! Pale face Byrne play Cowboys and Injuns
under cover of wigwam.. Hi HO Silver and away >>>>> LOL
Can we please keep the racist patois to a minimum? It isn’t funny, is offensive, and distracts from an otherwise interesting collection of comments about Byrne and ties to gambling.
Don’t want to distract from the vigorous debate about Byre and gambling, but it looks like David Grimes is jumping on the Byrne bandwagon of running on an anti-Hubbert/AEA?education platform. And, who is Maurice Rollins? Danny, looks like you need to add someone else to the 2010 List.
Stephen,
Get a sense of humor.
can you imagine what he must go through on talk like a pirate day??
Yeah because pirates are a federally protected status group that have experienced centuries of discrimination and genocide. That’s an outstanding point, CC Dollar, like so many of the others that you raise in the comments section of this blog. I commend your defense of the knee-slapping racism that keeps the quality of dialogue so elevated.
