Let’s see…the endorsement of two sitting AL senators who are (to my sorrow) likely to be re-elected until they retire or shuffle off this mortal coil, or the endorsement of the presidential candidate blown out of the water by his opponent. I know which one(s) I’d prefer if I were Troy.
I can agree here, This help who???? McCain is a huge failure and too progressive for this state, he even kissed Obama’s butt after the campaign, hes done finished and kaput!
No.7, by definition, it’s coincidence — not irony — but point taken. McCain couldn’t raise money when he was a candidate, how’s he going to raise money for Troy King? Don’t tell us he owes King anything, either. King was lucky McCain didn’t throw him over the side when all the “rumors” were going around.
But how did McCain do in the Republican primary?
He bombed. My guess is that now McCan is less popular among Republicans of Alabama than he was in 2008. And this endorsement is about the Republican primary.
When Sessions and Shelby endorsed Luther Strange, The Birmingham News story (found on blog.al.com) reported that:
“Chris Brown, a spokesman for King’s campaign, said King respects Shelby and Sessions but, ‘He’d rather get his votes from the voters instead of some people in Washington.’”
Am I mistaken in that our two Senators have more Alabama roots and less Washingtonian feel that John McCain? Maybe Chris Brown was wrong?
Troy King and John McCain are two washed out has beens. They go together. Troy’s Uncle Milton would bet that McCain would come to Alabama to campaign for Troy Boy. The turnout out embarrass both. At a small office in DC neither will be embarrassed. Will Troy take the State Jet to the event? How many body guards will he take to protect him?
@23 I’m not sure why (as in, I get that we rotate Reps every four years, but I didn’t think that all of our Reps were on the same cycle), but all of our Representatives are up for election this year.
Personally, I would like to see Palin endorse Les Phillip. It also sounds like Roby might be a good candidate to endorse as well.
I still think that the Governor’s race is too crowded. At this point, I’m ready to support Moore, but there’s a long way to go between now and June.
I know I’m a dense idiot that slept through Civics, but how is it that all of our Reps are up for election every two years if the House is a four year term office?
Representatives in the U.S. House are elected to two year terms, not four.
U.S. Senators are elected to six year terms. Their terms are staggered so that every two years about one-third of the seats are up for elections.
Alabama Senators and state House members are elected to four year terms. Their terms are not staggered; all 140 seats in the Alabama legislature are up for election at the same time every four years.
As an aside, it seems to me that there is some merit to having the four year terms staggered so that every two years half of the legislative seats are up for election instead of all of them. I guess that’s pretty far down the list of issues worth worrying about.
This Thursday will mark the last day of the legislative Session. For some, it was a Session that seemed would never end. For others, it was one that ended much too quickly. It may be early, yet, to write an obit on this Session, but as we approach the finish line, some perspective may be in order.
As you know, a very important piece of legislation will be presented for our consideration in the House tomorrow in Montgomery – Senate Bill 310 – the “Students First” tenure and fair dismissal reform bill. Like me, many House members have been inundated with phone calls and emails from opponents of this bill, and some have been [...]
There are a lot of issues to debate before we begin the final days of this session. In fact, I am quite certain there will be some comments on this post debating many of them. Before we get into the last seven day of the session I wanted to bring up a topic that [...]
Funny, I thought Troy would have Larry Craig at his fundraiser. . .
And this is a Positive for Troy King?
this does not help king. mccain is done. maybe if he had mitt…..but he doesn’t…nor will he.
I can agree here, This help who???? McCain is a huge failure and too progressive for this state, he even kissed Obama’s butt after the campaign, hes done finished and kaput!
Do you think that people will come out to gaggle at
McFAILMcCain? This fundraiser is being held on the one-year anniversary of McCain’s election defeat. (First Tuesday in November) Irony.
The fact is that McCain won Alabama by 20 points.
Does Troy agree with McCain on campaign finance, illegal immigration, gun control and same sex marraige?
No.7, by definition, it’s coincidence — not irony — but point taken. McCain couldn’t raise money when he was a candidate, how’s he going to raise money for Troy King? Don’t tell us he owes King anything, either. King was lucky McCain didn’t throw him over the side when all the “rumors” were going around.
Weak attempt. McCain is half the reason we’re in the mess we’re in. Troy aligning himself with RINOs won’t help in the primary he’s trying to win.
Hahahahahahaha.
Excuse me, but I can’t stop laughing. Troy King, backed by the man who brought us Sarah Palin. It’s rich all right.
And, I love the fact that he goes to Wash DC to do a fundraiser because God knows even his own Senators won’t fall for it down home.
But how did McCain do in the Republican primary?
He bombed. My guess is that now McCan is less popular among Republicans of Alabama than he was in 2008. And this endorsement is about the Republican primary.
Zoomcat. Any Republican in Alabama with a brain would LOVE to be endorsed by Palin!
@princeliberty Palin would never endorse King. Why would she get involved in our politics?
When Sessions and Shelby endorsed Luther Strange, The Birmingham News story (found on blog.al.com) reported that:

@certdenied Maybe Brown and Bob Gibbs went to school together.

No doubt Palin will never ever endorse King and it would be unlikely to get involved in the AG race.
A congressional primary or the Governor’s race maybe.
@19 There is only one person I want Palin to endorse in the Congressional race; the Governor’s race needs to thin out on the Republican ticket.
Let me guess “Professor” Tom…..Roy Moore.
@21 Are you asking if I’m Roy Moore or if I want her to endorse Roy Moore?
Not sure what 21 meant but I will assume they (she) meant who do you want Palin to endorse in the Congressional race.
There are only 3 running that I am aware of. Bobby NOT SO BRIGHT, Martha Roby, and some indy guy.
@23 I’m not sure why (as in, I get that we rotate Reps every four years, but I didn’t think that all of our Reps were on the same cycle), but all of our Representatives are up for election this year.

Re the last comment, all seats in the U.S. House of Representatives are up for election every two years.
@25
I know I’m a dense idiot that slept through Civics, but how is it that all of our Reps are up for election every two years if the House is a four year term office?
It can be a bit confusing.

I agree that there would be wisdom in staggering our State Reps. Perhaps you and I can push for that in the new State Constitution.
This a log cabin republicans thing?
