Here are some of the odds and ends bouncing around here like a fumbled football on an Auburn punt return.

Folks are asking if the Tim James gubernatorial campaign has filled the campaign manager slot since Steve Pelham departed. Brett Hall told the Parlor, “We are in the process of reviewing names of people to interview for the position of campaign manager. Meanwhile, campaign management responsibilities are being shared between our campaign general consultant, Scott Rials and me.”

Alabama unveiled a statue of Helen Keller at the Capitol Rotunda on Wednesday, one of the two that each state has there. Washington Monthly’s Political Animal notes that “one of the most conservative states in the union has unveiled a statue in the Capitol honoring one of the most famous American socialists in history.”

Obama wins the Nobel Peace Prize. Who’d a thunk? When I read the news pre-coffee I did a doubletake and checked the link to make sure it was legit. -
A reminder: the kids these days can follow Doc’s on Twitter. You know who you are.

Howie’s work schedule has changed, and he regretfully will not continue helping us keep up with gridiron games this fall. Some readers thought the topic was an odd fit. I confess I was enjoying the posts.

Pavo Magazine finished its list of the 20 greatest Birmingham songs. Speaking of Birmingham songs, anyone remember “Birmingham Tonight” by Telluride?

We’ve noted the work of Press-Register political cartoonist J. D. Crowe before, but here is a cartoon of his that we here at the Home of Lawn Mower Repair especially can appreciate. Click to see a larger version.

Strange one would can a campaign manager with no replacement apparently in mind.
That has got to be a very bad sign for Tim.
I don’t think it is a bad sign for James at all. Brett Hall is a lot better regarded than Pelham. He (James) corrected a mistake. Jmams has a lot of support if he can avoid getting people in the wrong places on his campaign.
Better to right the ship early. Pelham just wasn’t a great fit is the word on the street.
#3 and #4 have it right. The campaign was doing well in spite of Pelham (who lacked the experience to run a campaign), not because of him. James has support if his campaign people don’t spoil it.
Why did Pelham leave?
A stroll down memory lane…Fob was always a handful in both campaigns and the governor’s office. Can the political apple fall that far from the tree?
Tim needs a strong hand – someone not on the payroll that can stand up to him and call him on his questionable campaign behavior (how about that arbitration statement at the Christian Coalition that the Byrne people are emailing continously all over the state – I’ve gotten it once, others I know multiple times)
Who was the guy that always guided Fob behind the scenes? Cannot place his name, but was state finance director a few times under Fob?
I don’t think Pelham “left.”
James will be strong if he can be disciplined.
