Bobby Bright to Remain a Democrat

Bobby BrightU.S. Representative Bobby Bright (D – Montgomery) tells Mary Orndorff of The Birmingham News that he intends to remain a Democrat.

“I had a commitment from leadership here that they would let me be independent, and they’ve upheld that, and I intend to hold up my side of the commitment, which is to continue to speak out when it’s appropriate and necessary, to stand up against my leadership when I find it’s not good for my district or country, but also speak up in support when I need to.”

He is a one term-er no matter what. No new news here.

    What a scam

  • JD

Bobby says Pelosi is good for my District.

There’s plenty of polished, razor-sharp and influential commentary here…keep it up, Boys.

    Bobby’s quivering.

  • Baudrillard

Bobby’s quivering? Hell, I can’t believe I voted for this guy! He is the only politician I have ever voted for who has done exactly what he told me he’d do. If more people in CD2 knew what I now know, thanks to the insight of the prior posters, they would be quivering too.

    Baudrillard,

Put your panties back on your head, my comments were in support of Bright. It’s called sarcasm, and I was laying it on ‘pretty thick’…

  • Baudrillard

Anon, I think we are on the same page. I think I’ve got the sarcasm thing down.

He won during a crest of Democratic influence, and the odds for him to hold it are not great? But is Martha Roby the best the GOP can do?

Anyone heard anything about Hawkins running for this since he chickened out of the gov’s race?

  • Thomas Noblin

David Woods for Congress. Simple. He’d be a good candidate and congressman.

  • Thunder3325

Right on, #10. David Woods was my man for the primary last year. He had the best ideas, I felt, of any of the GOP candidates. And he’s not a career politician, either.

  • Brian Johnson

He’s such a baby-killing, Jesus-hating, liberal…booo Democrats. Things just ain’t Jesus like they used to be.

  • Thomas Noblin

Yep, we let the good ones get away. No telling what David Woods would have accomplished. The guy is a businessman and a hard worker and frugal. No excess spending there!

  • Hoss Man

If the Republican “leadership” would stay out of the primary and leave it to the candidates, David Woods would win the primary. If the Republican “leadership” would then support David in the general election, he would win it. But, of course, if frogs had wings they wouldn’t bump their asses when they jump.

  • Thomas Noblin

No kidding. Agreed. Bobby Bright couldn’t help but to have won that election. Republicans had 6 candidates, with half of the district, the Wiregrass supporting one … which they later wished they hadn’t done so prematurely, and the “machine” supporting Jay Love, which was sketch … and then let’s throw up all the other votes to the others … Schmidke made a good showing … But it was literally, sit back and watch the Republicans cancel themselves out .. I am a Republican, but I tell the truth …. they wouldn’t know a good candidate if it was tatoo’d on the guy’s face .. And even by the comments on this blog, there’s such division and oneupsmanship going on … There is no united front for the betterment of all the people in D2, and the United States, as well. Candidates are chosen for the amount of “smack value” they have to stir up debate and conversation on blogs such as these. I do wish we all had a pure goal, a pure intent to elect someone who truly had a desire to represent the people, to fight the status quo if it is full of corruption or ineffectiveness … to be innovative … and hardworking .. with the ability to honestly present themselves with the grace, integrity, and dignity deserving of this position and of the South. David Woods was that guy. And I know this is closing the door after the pigs are out, but I still wish he was our guy for the upcoming election.

  • Montgomery Voter

You have to remember that if your guy wasn’t good enough to get out of the primary, he wasn’t good enough to be a Congressman. Sorry.

  • Thomas Noblin

And now folks .. that’s an ignorant statement. You’re forgiven.

  • Mart Martin

Bright is like so many of the other delusional folks. He’s claims to be an ‘independent’ or ‘Alabama’ Democrat. Ha! The very first vote he makes in Congress is to permit the Democrats to ‘organize’ (i.e., run) it, thus putting Miz Nancy Pelosi and her Merry Band of Cheats, Thugs, and Fools in charge. Now Bright might be an ‘Alabama’ Democrat, but none of those folks are. So, how does being an “Alabama’ Democrat justifying such a sellout of all Alabamians?

  • Thomas Noblin

And sorry … I have to point out one more thing … Assuming what you say is true #16 …. That logically means that those that “made it out of the primary” in their districts around the country, were “good enough to be a Congressman” … thus implying that the present Congress is “good” … Wow … interesting concept there … That is why our country is in such “good” shape … Thank you for clearing that up …. I am so grateful.

  • Montgomery Voter

Pretty much. If McCain were a better candidate than Barack Osama, he would be president.

See, politics is like football – the team with the most points at the end of the game wins.

  • Thomas Noblin

Yes, and the country loses … What a nauseating concept.

  • Thomas Jefferson

Once a prairie socialist, always a prairie socialist. He’s got our farmers’ best interests in mind, I’m sure.

bright to remain a dem? wow…what a freakin’ shock. He is financed by trial lawyers and the DNC. And he is an independent that might switch parties? Hardly. Folks, he only tries to use that line when he is in the Wiregrass so don’t believe it. He votes to support pelosi and the house democrat leadership. he votes to support the democrat legislative agenda and to move it fwd. last i checked he voted with them 70% of the time. And how does Bright reply to that??? By saying “oh, well, if you take out the procedural votes then I….” blah blah blah. That is the whole point…he votes to move the legislative agenda of the house democrat leadership fwd by supporting their procedural moves, helping to block GOP moves and voting no on GOP amendments. Then, when a bill is on final passage, and the dems dont need his vote, he votes with the GOP and then runs back to the district saying how independent he is. But of course, his check from he DNC is in the mail to finance his re election. It’s all a game to him. So long bobby – i hope you only signed a 2 year lease on your DC apartment…

  • 2010

well, well, well, what a surprise. Bobby Bright just voted with the House Dems to protect Rep. Charlie Rangle yet again. Rangle is a crook and a self admitted cheat yet the dems allow him to stay on as Chair of House Ways and Means. And what does “independent” and “almost a Republican” Bobby Bright do? He votes with the dems today to kill a GOP resolution concerning Rangle. The House Ethics Committee will not take action against Rangle and the dems love it that way….. Bright plays their game and supports their actions time and time and time again. He knows where his bread is buttered. Pathetic….

  • 2010

oh – bright’s vote over the Rep. Rangle issue explained…..Rangle gave money to bright’s campaign. Go figure folks…………

Regardless of Political Stripes Vote Tomorrow

As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]

My Time is Up

I write this blog with some mixed emotion. Over the last eight years I have served in the House of Representatives, and this Thursday will most likely be my last day in session as a House member. Of course, my term goes until November, and there could always be a special session at [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
