Alabamian Among 50 Richest Members of Congress

Falling graphRoll Call’s annual examination of House and Senate financial disclosure forms reveals one Alabamian on this year’s list of the 50 richest members of Congress, but perhaps not the one you think.

Senators and Representatives on the list “reported a combined loss of more than $275 million from their minimum net worth since 2007.” Alabama’s Republican Senator Shelby may have taken a bigger hit than most: he doesn’t show up this year after charting at 30th on last year’s list (.pdf).

Alabama is represented on the list this year by Rep. Parker Griffith (D – Huntsville) who comes in at 44th on the list with a minimum net worth of over $6 million. Note that precise calculations are not possible because reporting on the financial disclosure forms is done in broad ranges.

My Time is Up

I write this blog with some mixed emotion. Over the last eight years I have served in the House of Representatives, and this Thursday will most likely be my last day in session as a House member. Of course, my term goes until November, and there could always be a special session at [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
