George Wallace, Jr. is expected to announce that he will run for the Republican nomination for state Treasurer to succeed Kay Ivey in the role. (Sorry, Terry Dunn.)
Circuit Judge Mac Parsons tells those around him that the Democrat is going to run for Republican Tom Parker’s seat on the Supreme Court. Win or lose, his campaign should be worth watching.
We’ve been hearing rumors that state Sen. Roger Bedford (D – Russellville) is going to run for Attorney General. Nope, he tells the Parlor definitively he is not running for AG. “My plans are to continue to serve the people of northwest Alabama as their Senator if they will continue to have me.”

I heard Rhonda Chambers from North Alabama was running for Parker’s seat as a democrat.
Mac Parsons is a joke. I remember his shenanigans in the senate. He is lucky to just be on the bench in Bessemer.
lol..bedford knows noone will beat troy king….
bedord as AG?
that’s rich
lol
i wish he’d have made a run at governor though….he is fun to watch…
CC – Watch out for Big Luther…
what ever happened to that big king investigation anyway??? couldn’t find nothing on the good man??
CC, luther will wipe the floor with your lil casino boy, troy. just get ready.
wallace has just locked up the treasurer’s race. at least he knows how to pick something he can win – un like sparks and ivey.
I think pretty much anyone could beat Troy King. I generally agree with you, CC, but you’re way off target on this one if you’re putting all your marbles on Troy.
I agree that Wallace should win. One good thing about is that at this stage of his career he will focused on his job.
He not going to using the treasurer as stepping stone to anything other than retirement.
Wallace will win!
The thing is with Bedord as AG, Alabama would have an attorney general who knows all about the corruption of this state and knows were the skeletons are at!
Zorro, you think that the guy who created PACT is going to win a race where PACT is the defining issue? I don’t think Wallace even lives in this state anymore. Regardless, it should be an interesting race to watch.
Mac Parsons – hadn’t heard that one
He’s definitely not running for reelection in Bessemer.
I seriously doubt Parsons is running for Supreme Court. Dollar to a doughnut that it doesn’t happen.
wallace had nothing to do with the fall in the PACT fund, Price. How could he – he has not held office in years. No one will say it was set up in a faulty manner. He gets zero of the blame.
Wallace lives in Bham and will be the best if not the only candidate for treas. that folks have even heard of.
When George Wallace was State Treasurer, he established the PACT program with the limit of 30% investment in the stock market. As a result, the money was conservative and always made a reasonable profit.
Later, the percentage of PACT investments in the stock market went up to 70%.
Frankly, George could run on a platform of saving PACT and probably win in a landslide. George Wallace, Jr is probably the best example of a true public servant in our state in a long time–fine man and excellent public official.
I agree with John Killian.
The problem with the 30% stock investment in the PACT program is that it couldn’t keep up with the tuition increases and would have been underfunded by a siginficant amount. As it is now, but for a different reason.
I’ve heard Rhonda Chambers’ name discussed for Tom Parker’s seat. Also have heard James Anderson’s name for the open seat that Pattie Smith now holds. Anderson would cream Wise and would be a much better Justice.
Anderson would “Cream” Wise? Wow, Baudrillard! Really!
Money magazine rated Alabama’s PACT program under Wallace as A+. It fell to a C under Lucy Baxley. Ended under poison Ivey as F.
Res Ipsa Loquitor.
I hope Anderson runs for AG.
And a further question to everone on the PACT board is
what is being to done FIX it right now?
The only talk seems be about bailing it out.
But that’s not a fix. They need to fire whoever was handling the investments.
And a low limit on stocks needs to put in place.
A conservative long term investment strategy needs to be put in place.
Susan – That only shows how much tuition increases should have been limited, not how much PACT investments in the stock market should have increased. That’s about like blaming the credit card companies for people spending money they don’t have. Irresponsible.
John Killian, actually…Little George is the third. George Wallace Jr was THE GEORGE WALLACE…I know, I know, it’s a technicality…

Brian, I’ve always wondered about that. The late Gov. and presidential candidate was named after his father, George Corley Wallace, and was, therefore, a Junior. I don’t know if he ever used the suffix , but, the former Treasurer and PSC member is clearly a “III.” I guess that sounds a bit patrician for his image, therefore “Jr.”
George C. Wallace, Jr. is the one looking at running for PSC. George C. Wallace was our governor and George C. Wallace, III was George, Jr.’s son.
Treasurer – not PSC – sorry
