Susan Parker for Governor? Not in 2010

Dr. Susan D. ParkerI have been hearing talk that some Democrats have been encouraging PSC Commissioner Susan Parker to run for governor in 2010. (At least one reader has been hearing something similar and left comments here and here.)

In response to my inquiry, Commissioner Parker tells the Parlor, “I have had a number of people mention it to me. At this time, it is not something I am considering.”

“I am very focused on my work at the Public Service Commission. I have been selected as president of the Regional, I am very involved in the national [the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners] on the Executive Committee. I feel what happens the next few years in energy on the national scene and in Alabama is very important. That where’s my focus is, my passion.” Parker was elected at the end of June to the presidency of the Southeastern Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners. SEARUC members are utility regulators in 11 states.

“As far as I know right now we have at least two good candidates for governor,” she said, referring to Democrats Artur Davis and Ron Sparks. She added that she plans “in a few months” to make a formal announcement to run for re-election to the PSC.

Susan Parker has tried the big league once (her attempt to unseat Jeff Sessions in the U.S. Senate race). I don’t think she’ll be as easily convienced of that mistake again. Don’t expect to see her name near the top of the ballot ever again. She’ll be completely happy to serve on the PSC and live off the taxpayer dollars the rest of her career. Somebody has to support her husband Paul!

That’s a little harsh Goat Hill! Are you Perry Hooper? j/k Susan Parker is one of the few politicians that tries to help people I have never heard anyone say anything negative about her or her husband. She has also has opened up the PSC and acually shows up to work. I think she would make a good Governor one day.

I think she is a fine lady and a good public servant

Wow, Goat Hill nailed. Is there anyone else Paul Hubert can try to convince? He should ask Troy King to switch to the democrat party. What a bunch of racist losers.

i am a Republican but I agree with post 3 – I actually like susan parker.

  • Just curious–former Mobile Mayor Mike Dow has long harbored ambitions to run for Governor. Frankly, Mayor Dow would be a strong candidate, could likely raise money, and would have a strong base in Mobile. Why is his name not mentioned as a possibility for Governor? Has he publicly declined the chance to run?
Mind you, I am not emcouraging him, since I am supporting TIM JAMES. But just wondering. But for some reason, some Democrats seem to continue a push for someone besides the two announced Democrats.

Senate Passes Ban on No-Bid Contracts–Makes State Government More Accountable

I am very pleased that Senate Republicans joined with the Senate Democratic Caucus this week to pass a major piece of our legislative agenda.  SB 52, sponsored by Senator Lowell Barron, will end the abuse that we have seen of the awarding of no-bid contracts.  During Governor Riley’s seven years in office, he has awarded [...]

Working in the Bubble

I often hear a lot of talk about the bubble of Montgomery. From time to time I am reminded about this and it could never be more glaring than the current debate regarding gambling. As the news media and political ads have taken to the air debating Governor Riley’s raid on Victory Land and Country [...]
