2010 Candidate Lists Updated

Johnny Ford used to be a lot of things. He used to be Tuskegee’s Mayor. He used to be a state Representative. He used to be a Democrat before he became the first black Republican legislator since Reconstruction.

Now, he used to be a Republican as he is a Democrat again, this time running for Senate District 28. The seat is currently held by Democrat Myron Penn who is undecided about running again.

This and several other updates are noted in the 2010 Senate Elections Directory, the 2010 House Elections Directory, and the 2010 Big List.

Johnny Ford spoke at the ADC convention about this seat. He had a lot of folks fired up, and I suspect he will be strong in this race.

There is no bigger character in Alabama politics than Johnny Ford and there are a lot of characters in Alabama politics

If the voters of that district elect Ford to that seat, they deserve exactly what they get!

  • Jennifer

If he wins and the power split is close, is it possible that Ford might caucus with the Rs — in exchange for something cool, of course — ?

  • That is one of my fears Jennifer, but I don’t really think so. But then again, I am generally not trusting of turncoats anyway.

  • Talmadge that is one thing I agree with you on. There’s a state senator over in Mississippi who has switched parties 4 times since ‘03. Ive said it before and Ill say it a million times. We need more people with strong beliefs like Jesse Helms and Ted Kennedys in elected office and less of these wishy washy Tom Butler and Johnny Ford types.

“We need more people with strong beliefs like Jesse Helms and Ted Kennedys in elected office ….”

couldn’t you could have found a couple of better examples than that…

Well, don’t count Ford out! He’s been successfull in politics for quite sometime. Sounds like the good Senator Penn might have some cold feet. If he’s having doubts, then he might ought to same himself and the democrat caucus some money and bow out!!!!

He might should have spent a little more time taking care of the voters of his district, and a little less time running with the big dawgs in Montgomery.

    Maybe he’ll run for Governor!

Never, ever count Johnny Ford out in that District, no matter what labels he has had.

Spent some time campaigning this weekend before heading back into session again

After a weekend of campaigning it is back to work in Montgomery again. As I have been moving around my district I am getting more and more questions about the gambling debate.

It appears that I spoke to soon last week when I [...]

Senate Passes Ban on No-Bid Contracts–Makes State Government More Accountable

I am very pleased that Senate Republicans joined with the Senate Democratic Caucus this week to pass a major piece of our legislative agenda.  SB 52, sponsored by Senator Lowell Barron, will end the abuse that we have seen of the awarding of no-bid contracts.  During Governor Riley’s seven years in office, he has awarded [...]

HAPPY FEBRUARY

Under the “B” … June 1

I’ve tried to follow BINGO rules and BINGO raids.  I’m not sure I understand the law, nor do I get the motives of many of the principal players.  I bet many of you know a heck of a lot more about this than I.  But one thing I am [...]
