Cobb is out

According to the Montgomery Advertiser, Sue Bell Cobb has will not run for governor.  Her quoted statement is below the fold.

“I am honored to have been sought out and encouraged to run for governor by so many Alabamians from all walks of life. Their support has been humbling and perhaps made this decision the most difficult I have ever been called upon to make,” she said in a release.

“While this love for our state and encouragement caused me to seriously consider running for governor, I have been privileged to serve as Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court and plan to remain in this position. Therefore, I will continue to work tirelessly to improve the court system of this state and will continue to devote my time and energy to programs and projects that improve the lives of all citizens of Alabama:”

This validates that Davis’s hiring of ceci and mowery leaves a void in terms of who could run her campaign.

Very smart big time political play by Davis this week.

This decision was made on the macro level of party politics and resigning her seat for an uncertain result. It was not made on the micro level of who could be a campaign manager.

I agree with #2. I don’t think those thoughts entered the mind of the Chief Justice or those around her. it sounds like Mowery and Ceci are looking for some fan-fare.

  • “I will continue to work tirelessly…”

but will she WORK LATE INTO THE NIGHT?

i would not dismiss #1. Cobb approached Mowery and Ceci about playing major roles in her campaign, including manager and they turned her down. Same with Steve Raby and Marion Steinfel. Cobb is a very conventional political thinker and it rocked her that these players would not help her.

It also meant that she would have had to go out of state to get her talent. Guess what happened there? The DNC is telling people that the White House would be unhappy if anybody at the national level worked against Davis. Even Cobb’s DC pollster supposedly went south on her after their numbers came back.

no doubt that dems in DC are all for Davis. his connection to obama is no secret…plus davis is a current member of congress.

I wouldn’t pay Marion Steinfels to pick up my garbage.

Who in the world is Marion Steinfels?

I, for one, am shocked that Steinfels turned SBC down. I heard that she was the most likely of all the above-listed to take the spot should it be offered. I think the more likely scenario is that with Mowery, Ceci and Raby out, SBC had nowhere to go. And, to address 2 and 3, the dirth of qualified politicos (micro level) combined with a political climate (macro level) to force SBC’s decision not to run.

I remember meeting Hinton for the first time while I was a student at Auburn University. He served the people of his [...]

HAPPY FEBRUARY

Under the “B” … June 1

I’ve tried to follow BINGO rules and BINGO raids.  I’m not sure I understand the law, nor do I get the motives of many of the principal players.  I bet many of you know a heck of a lot more about this than I.  But one thing I am [...]
