Is the netroots is all for cap and trade? I think we all agree climate change is a problem that needs to be addressed, but I’m not sure you could get a consensus to agree that cap and trade is the way to go. I certainly don’t see any big time pro Cap and Trade diaries on dKos. Although to be fair climate change isn’t what I focus on in the netroots.

As far as the talk about agriculture goes, I didn’t really like any of it. I doubt the netroots will support him if he goes around talking about fossil fuels, chemical fertilizer and the rest of conventional chem ag. I like when he talks about foreign imported food, and how it needs to be labeled with country of origin. I heard someone ask once, how come we’re getting so much of our produce from that place where you’re not supposed to drink the water?
With all the recalls due to food borne illnesses, more regulation of farmers and food in general is definitely on the agenda for the netroots.

I thought Ron was funny and professional here, but the interview was lacking, why didn’t he squeeze in the fact that he’s running for Governor from Alabama? Who knows some Glenn Beck voters might send him money on accident thinking he’s a R.

JC, I do agree with you about artur. while i am going to support byrne, i am glad artur is not in lock step with the old guard of typical dem leadership in alabama. i am curious who joe reed, paul hubbert and others are going to get behind on the dem side. it will be interesting to see.

2010 – the few times I’ve heard Sparks speak, he struck me as old-fashioned progressive populist. Very appealing in that respect. Actually moreso than Davis, who altho I am pledged to support, leaves me dissatisfied on many fronts. He’s much more conservative than Sparks, contrary to the rap he often gets here. I have set aside my concerns about Davis not just bc he is such a compelling figure, but bc he stands against the old order of the Dem establishment, particularly Joe Reed. Dems and Republicans should unite together to overthrow Montgomery if you ask me.

Mooncat – I have lived in Jefferson Co. since 1980 and am active in OTMDems, but I am a proud graduate of the Home of the Crimson Panthers Class of, ahem, 1976, with many friends and family still there. So that beer offer is good here or there!

And just to add….Ron Sparks will go on just about any show at anytime as long as it gives him an audience. Self promoter anyone? And yes, I realize most politicians are just that.

2010 – So far, you’ve called me a nut, instructed me to “get real’ and to “give it a rest”. Correct me if I’m wrong, but this is a blog, non-partisan at that, and the Doc encourages everyone to not only read but to comment as well, insisting only on civility. You are right to defend Glenn Beck if you choose, just as I am entitled to express my strongest disapproval of him. Alas, I think you are correct that Beck, both in his opinions and his manner, is far more popular in these parts than I prefer. Nonetheless, as a politically-active Democrat in not only the most-populous county in the state, but also with the highest concentration of Democrats, I want Ron Sparks to know I disapprove of his appearance on Beck’s program, unless of course, his purpose was to excoriate him, which it obviously wasn’t, and I intend to call him on it. As is my right.

As for Mooncat’s remark, she reveals herself to be a clever provocateur of the first order, whatever her political persuasions, and I am delighted to buy her a beer…

First time I’ve watched Glenn Beck but he strikes me as an extremely effeminate spokesperson for the gay bashing right.

Sparks was fine in this appearance, but nothing we haven’t heard before. I’m looking forward to hearing his views on non-agriculture issues.

2010 – This isn’t Cali, but it isn’t fantasy land, either. Glenn Beck is about as realistic, rational, and mainstream as Michael Moore.

While some of Alabama leans far right, if MOST of this state listened to people like Glenn Beck and took them seriously, our governor right now would likely be Roy Moore. Seeing as how we have Bob Riley instead, I’m going to go out on a limb and say “center-right” would be a better fit.

2010 – I’m hardly alone in thinking Beck is the nutjob here. If you think what comes out of his mouth on a regular basis is acceptable and mainstream, let’s not plan on that beer together. As for “Ron still loves Castro”, that obviously is not hate speech. It’s not factually correct either, but no matter. In any event, Sparks marches to his own drummer, but I don’t think he’s doing himself any favors if he wants to win the spot at the top of the ticket in a Democratic primary…

Surprised that Sparks is still sane after dealing what that “nut job,” Glenn Beck. Sparks is the most electable Democratic Governor in the South, period.
