Davis Kicks Off Campaign for Governor

About 500 people turned out (that was the estimate of a policeman I asked) for Artur Davis’ Kickoff Event for his gubernatorial campaign at Linn Park in Birmingham on Saturday . There is not much for me to add that you probably haven’t already picked up elsewhere, for example at the Birmingham News, Left in Alabama or South Union Street.

I do have a few pictures. There are more pictures at South Union Street (here, here, and here).

I’m impressed that the Birmingham school system educated those children enough to have thought out and written those protest signs. Maybe things aren’t as bad as we think they are.

Danny, who organized the protest? Republicans? Hilliard?

  • No idea. The few inquiries I made went nowhere.

Amazing how the Democrats are just spiking this race.

The Governor’s race is about one thing the Republican primary.

To #2, The answer to your question may lie in a conversation I had a few weeks ago with a city politico. Supposedly Larry Langford blames Davis for not getting the Justice Department to drop the indictment against him. I thought that was the dumbest rumor I had heard in a while but apaprently two Langford operatives were seen passing out the Davis signs.

I am impressed that Davis pulled off a substantial crowd for a year before political event and that according to all accounts it was racially diverse.Interesting to see if any of this reassures the anti-Davis wing of the party or whether this convinces them more than ever that Sparks is hopeless and that they need a white knight.

Lucy Baxley broke her hip yesterday before the PSC meeting. What impact will this have on Susan Parker’s decision to seek re-election to the PSC, or go for Governor as she is being urged by Democratic operatives?
