This whole time I thought his name was Mallory. Weird.

    Congratulations, Dave.

I have seen the ads on behalf of Bright. They are pretty good. I don’t know why they are running them on his behalf at this point, however. I guess every one sees him as targeted in 2010. Considering the majority party usually does poorly in mid term elections and he sits in a GOP district, I guess it makes sense that certain forces are working now to try and protect him. Interesting that almost all of his contributions since being elected, and now this ad, are from PACs / lobbying groups. But that is how the game works. If Obama continues to spend spend spend and new taxes start coming up – and nationalized healthcare, etc. then yes, Bright may have a tough re election even if he votes against Obama some of the time. But, the right GOPer must be found to run against him and I am doubting that Martha Roby is the best choice.
In terms of the Robo call, I would say that is an old tactic that did not work the first time they tried it. Bashing Pelosi is not always the best thing….promote your own ideas instead I say. BUT, considering her lies about the CIA and briefings she received, I guess I cannot blame them for pointing out Bright voted to block an investigation. Bad move on is part. He also cast his first vote in Congress to elect her Speaker after all and said it was a “no brainer” to him since she supported his election. Likewise, I didn’t know he voted with her almost 80% of the time. That worries me and it will resonate with some folks.

  • the National Republican Congressional Committee is robocalling … and using “Pelosi” … again?!

    what’s next, “Conservative Christian” ???

Bobby Bright’s chances at re-election are looking better & better

bright always looks like he just sucked on a lemon……. cheer up bobby.

  • I think the “Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America” are also running ads for Griffith in North AL.

Looking over Bright’s records at the Federal Election Commission, its kinda funny to see both Wal-Mart and trial lawyers donating to his campaign. And who knew there were so many sugar producer PACs out there and donating to him and Griffith.

And looking at AL-07, appears Terrycina Sewell is the only one to report donations so far and most of it from individuals.

However the race for money has just begun.

What’s up with that picture of Mowery? He looks like a pimp or something.

  • STAND UP FOR BAMA

Mowery & Cagle (Mowery Consulting) are a great pair. They will be on the winning side of some high profile elections in 2010. If you are their opposition you better eat your Wheaties.

  • Wamp

Mowery is a funny dude – I saw him today in our building and he has shaved his beard and looks completely different. If you know him, you should follow his facebook updates – real sense of absured humor.

the last line of their website intro reads: “and ultimately to the voters you need elect you”. HEY GUYS – please add a “to” so it reads: …the voters you need TO elect you” Yes, easy mistake I know. And yes, that pic of him looks creepy but the pic of his partner shows him with sunglasses on his head. Get professional guys. Also, they are “hot” right now and likely will bring in some good business come 2010. However, they did have a perfect storm and lots of help in the Bright campaign. Everything went there way from the GOP killing each other in the run off (financially and otherwise) and also had the benefit of a terrible GOP election year and a massive minority turnout in Montgomery County that voted straight ticket democrat. Then, they had a good well known candidate in Todd Strange. Good name and lots of money to spend. I am not trying to take things away from their victories but those are the facts. But we will see what else these guys can do come 2010. If they remain hot then they will be around for years to come. Otherwise, flash in the pan. I am more impressed with Bright’s pollster and his contributions to the campaign. Alzone is ut (spelling?) I will say that as the stock of Mallory has risen, obviously that of Dax (whatever his last name is) has sunk.

  • ConservativeDem

Not sure how they get any business with Matrix and Raby/Heartsill breathing up the oxygen with local Dem candidates.

  • ConservativeDem

Plus I know for a fact that the Bright’s do NOT give Mowry a good reference.

  • anonymous

i wouldn’t necessarily look to bobby bright for any intellectual decision. puppet/dense/free of independent thought and boiling temper keep him from any discussion that requires intellect.

  • 2010

bobby better be finding another decent consultant then…… like i said, he won because of a perfect storm….even he knows that. i doubt things will be so perfect for him come 2010.

  • Wamp

Good Lord, 2010 and Conservative Dem – sounds like you have a petty axe to grind. Did these guys chew you up and spit you out?

  • 2010

no axe at all – just saying they had good candidates and very good timing – I am anxious to see how they do in a tougher environment.

  • Wamp

You have a fundamental lack of understanding of a dude like Mowery. He was recruited by the DCCC to run Bright’s race, and then brought in by Todd Strange because of how great a race he ran for Bright.

The game is chess not checkers.

  • 2010

thanks for your insight wamp – you’re brilliant.

  • The vote

I heard a very good reference on Mowery from the mouth of Bright this week. He gives him much credit. Say what you will, Bright is really a good candidate though, unlike so many politicians, he is a real person.

  • anonymous

A tidbit..Mowery turned down an offer to run Sue Bell Cobb’s campaign for governor. Apparently, he could not get her to turn over her polling numbers.

  • Wamp

Anon 21 – that doesn’t make any sense – why would any candidate offer someone a job and not allow them to see the polling?

  • Baudrillard

Maybe she didn’t have any good polling to show him, and he called her bluff.

  • 2010

I doubt the story in post 21….. I don’t think Cobb has any sincere intention to run.

  • waydownhere

I have heard of candidates not showing results to potential hires until after they have accepted a job. Ussually that only happens whent the candidate is behind, which we can expect to be that case here.

That being said, unlikely that it is true because I dont think that Cobb plans to run.

  • [...] You may remember that the NRCC played up the Pelosi connection in robocalls to his district three months ago. [...]

Be Careful What You Ask For

Alabama just finished one of the bizarre primary election cycles in recent memory. I mean really, who would have ever thought 12 months ago that Ron Sparks and Robert Bentley would have been facing off against one another for the big prize? Both men are personal friends but I think even they had to [...]

Regardless of Political Stripes Vote Tomorrow

As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
