I see that Bradley is flying all around the state in a jet.

I hear for his announcement Roy Moore plans on riding his bicycle around the state backwards. . .

I predict that the Tim James attack machine will move on from dissing Judge Moore to hitting Bradley Byrne. I would caution the James organization that you catch more flies with honey that with vinegar. The toes you’re stepping on today, belong to the rear you may need to kiss tomorrow. Criticize with caution.

I agree post 2. I don’t want to see the GOPers fight to the death and therefore give an advantage to Davis (or sparks) in the general. i hope the dems go after each other and make each other spend precious funds in the primary for a change…

“Dems go after each other”??? Seriously, has anybody heard from Sparks since he announced?

  • I don’t see Tim James attacking anyone, at this point.

Got to run by the store to get milk on my way home. Will let you know if I see Sparks’ picture on the side of the carton.

Sparks is just not generating any interest. He also has no money. What little he did have, he spent on “Sparks for Lt. Governor” signs. Had to trash them when Little Jim threw him a curve! All the people who’ve encouraged him to run, are republicans – you know, the ALFA folks. Not only are they being quite, they won’t even be able to vote for him. They’ll be voting in the republican primary. I see Sparks fading into the sunset long before the primary gets here. I sure hate that too!! Was so looking forward to the light being put on some skeletons in his closet!!!! Couldn’t happen to a nicer “bought and paid for” ALFA fellow!!!!

Just a few questions…if Byrne is flying around in a private jet, who is paying for it? Unlike Sparks and Davis, he presumably has no existing campaign account. If someone is lending him the jet, isn’t that a contribution pre June 1? I suppose they could be billing him later, but is it a normal business practice to invoice a plane ride? Surely, the man who cleaned up the junior college system would not mind answering those questions at his press conference.

post 8 – you are an idiot. do you think byrne is going to violate campaign laws on his debut? what about bentley going on a bus tour around the state a few weeks back? who paid for that? no one is violating campaign finance laws thus far but roy moore and his email buddies. get real.

and post 7 is correct about sparks. dead in the water. he should’ve run for treasurer or something.

You bring up a good point, #4. I haven’t heard a word from Sparks since he announced. Speaking of him, does anyone think that Ron Sparks has a good chance of capturing the endorsement from the Alabama Farmers Federation? It’s no secret that he has close ties to that organization, and while they normally endorse Republicans, I could very well see them giving him the nod this time. The AFF is a powerful force in Alabama politics, though not as much as they used to be. Still, their endorsement is very much coveted.

  • 2010

I doubt ALFA will endorse in the primary on the dem or GOP side.

  • Rambling thoughts

Well Byrne needs to retire if he is going to campaign. Surely he will not try to do two jobs.
The icon of integrity that he is.

  • STAND UP FOR BAMA

Sparks spoke at the Montgomery County Trial Lawyers meeting last week. I am a Republican, and didnt agree with him on at least one thing (stimulus $) but I thought he did a good job.

It was interesting though that I never heard him mention the word “Govenor” in his speech. I could be wrong about that but after it was over I couldnt remember him saying it a single time. He did say “another office” on one occasion.

Asked close friend of his after the speech and he said there was nothing to it. Just FYI.

  • 2010

pay attention post 12, byrne previously announced he is leaving his current position….

I doubt Byrne and James will attack each other before the runoff. Right now, they look like locks to make that runoff, so they’ll probably play nice until them. Look for attacks in the primary from fringe candidates like Bentley, Moore and Ivey.

  • anonymous

BTW if calling Byrne a “moderate” is an attack I suppose he’ll be divorcing his wife, who called him precisely that in the Mobile Press-Register . . .

  • Jimmy B.

Analysis I’ve heard so far is that Byrne will be the “pro-business” candidate and on track to get the backing of Riley supporters and James is more appealing to the “social conservative” side of the state GOP. But I thought James had some serious connections and cred with the movers-and-shakers in the state business community?

  • anonymous

James has some serious support of Mobile and Baldwin County GOP business types, but Bradley has Birmingham which means he has BCA and the “Riley-type” business community. Still, James has more business support by far than Moore had in ‘06.

  • 2010

james has more biz support than roy moore did in ‘06? Boy….. that is saying a lot.

Regardless of Political Stripes Vote Tomorrow

As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]

My Time is Up

I write this blog with some mixed emotion. Over the last eight years I have served in the House of Representatives, and this Thursday will most likely be my last day in session as a House member. Of course, my term goes until November, and there could always be a special session at [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
