A reader passed along this ‘Roy Moore for Governor’ fundraising appeal that is circulating in email (see below).
I find the comment especially remarkable that our education system is indoctrinating children “through a multicultural mix of Communism, Islam, New Age and anything that goes, except Christianity, which is now being portrayed as the enemy.”
Interestingly enough, the P.O. Box used in the appeal is apparently for the Zeke’s Landing restaurant in Orange Beach.
Subject: VIP - Moore for Governor 2010 Campaign
We are just a few days away from Memorial Day 2009, a time when we honor our fallen veterans.
We are also taking this opportunity to assist the former Chief Justice of the State of Alabama, Roy Moore, who will announce his candidacy on June 1st, for Governor of the State of Alabama.
His service to our country and state is unrivaled in Alabama. He's a West Point graduate who served his countrymen honorably in Vietnam as a Commander of a military police company. You may also recall his service to fellow Alabamians on the bench as a county judge and later as the Chief Justice.
As he announces his candidacy, I urge all of you to support him with all of your resources. As you know, our country is being torn apart from with in and we must take a stand for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
We must clean up our education system which is indoctrinating our children through a multicultural mix of Communism, Islam, New Age and anything that goes, except Christianity, which is now being portrayed as the enemy. Our forefathers founded America on God and His Word. The enemy is now taking it away, but he can do it only, if we remain apathetic and refuse to listen and act on the TRUTH. I am asking you to take a stand for what is right before it is too late to turn this nation around for the good in which it was intended.
On June 1st, at the Embassy Suites in Montgomery will be a day to remember in Alabama history, Judge Moore will announce at 12 noon his candidacy for Governor of Alabama for 2010. We need your support by praying for him and telling your friends and family to support Judge Moore. We will need your financial support, and we ask you to be committed to give to the campaign on June 1st. The amount of money you commit is not important, however your commitment to his election is. Whether it's $10.00 or $1000.00, we need your support. Individuals may give an unlimited amount, however, corporations and businesses are limited to $500.00 each.
The campaign established a post office box for donations. The P. O. box to mail checks dated June 1st or after is:
· Judge Roy Moore 2010 Committee
· P.O. Box 3299
· Orange Beach, AL 36561
You may also contribute to his election campaign starting June 1st at the following website:
· Moore2010.Com
I pray you will make a commitment to be a part of this battle to keep America Free to worship our Creator who has given to us abundantly.
Grace to you,
Julie Sanders

This is an illegal fundraising solicitation that violates the Fair Campaign Practices Act (FCPA).
There is a clear request for money, a request for specific amounts, and an instruction to postadte checks. This is outrageous, even for Alabama politics.
This letter should be forwarded immediately to the Attorney General as he is charged, by the FCPA, with prosecuting violations of the FCPA.
This is serious. According to the Code of Alabama, a violation of section 17-5-7 of the code (which this is) is a Class B felony.
Hey Danny – the P.O. Box at Zeke’s Landing may be significant. A couple of years back Dean Young – who is now Moore’s major mouthpiece and supporter and who is almost certainly collecting the checks from that P.O. Box – was involved (as a member of the Baldwin County Planning Commission) in a request by Zeke’s to build a huge new development at the current Zeke’s marina property. Young was the only vocal proponent on the Commission for the controversial rezoning (which failed badly).
And Young was placed on the Commission by Orange Beach Mayor Rousseau who is now in prison for bribery, etc. I have heard that Dean really wanted to be on the Planning Commission and specifically requested the job for his role in Rousseau’s election.
And now – after backing Zeke’s controversial develoipment – he gets his mail there???? Man there may be a “boatload” of investigations at that Marina address!
This (below) is copied from a Baldwin County history site. It notes less-than-kosher connections between Judge Moore’s campaign manager Dean Young and developers in Baldwin. This is probably why Moore gets his mail at Zeke’s Landing – they were one of the developers before the Planning Commission, and Dean was a commissioner eager to help them after being placed on the commission by felon Russo:
“Russo reported getting $8,000 from the Beach PAC, which raised more than $104,000 – including $35,000 from prominent developer Larry Wireman’s partner, Judy Ramey – to support Russo and his allies. Thomas Eugene “Gene” Brett of Brett-Robinson gave $12,000. Dean Young, a former Republican candidate for Alabama secretary of state, started the Beach PAC. The Beach PAC spent nearly $30,000 with PMM Consulting Inc., Young’s political consulting firm. Young was appointed by Russo to an unpaid position on the city Planning Commission immediately following his re-election. – PR 8/16/04, 1/20/06″
That may explain the P.O. Box. It goes back to the play-for-pay scandal that Moore’s top advisor was up to his neck in.
I think the AG may be a little too busy to investigate.
Moore is a certified nut. Yes, this is a violation of the FCPA regardless of who is raising the money. Question is this someone officially connected with Moore. Otherwise, he will pass it off as someone else violating the law. This former Chief Justice already has shown how he does not believe the law applies to him.
Total campaign violation. Can he not wait until mid June when the law allows such solicitations? This just shows what a nut case roy moore and his supporters are.
The quality of prose and grammar in that letter is…disappointing.
isn’t Dean Young the guy that ran for Secretary of State and took a punch at the Wendy’s guy?
Since it gives the addresses for Moore’s donations (only a campaign insider would know that) and his website YES this is an illegal campaign solicitation and should be prosecuted.
Julie Sanders has been an employee in Moore’s office. She works for him.
Since most of those commenting on this post seem to be well versed in Alabama campaign finance law, I have a campaign finance question. Is it illegal for a candidate to set up an account for 2010 election on a website that processes donations like ActBlue before June 1? Or would they have to wait until after June 1 before they could go active with those accounts?
I think you can set up a committee and even file the papers with the SOS, but you can not solicit in any form, contribtuions 1 year prior to the election. A solicitation, I think is a definable term. It means don’t ask, hint, encourage, or send out mail requesting, or indicating a time, or an amount of money that can be given to a candidate, or the making of future arrangements for money to be given to a candidate. Roy broke the law, but then again, this isn’t the first time for him, so I guess he will say this is just another left wing conspiracy led by Bill Pryor to get him. Dean Young is the former candidate for SOS so one would think he should know the FCPA but then again, Dean thinks he knows everything. Yes, he is the one that almost had the altercation with Dave Thomas on “For The Record” show. Get him and Bishop in state goverment and we can really whip some butt. May not be able to do much other than that, but what the hey. Funny how Judge Roy has never listed his salary he gets from his “non profit”. I hear it is over $250,000 per year and also, is he still charging $15,000 for his spekaing tour events??? I know all of this is being done for the Big 10, but one has to live along the way don’t we your honor?? What kind of car does the pious good judge drive. Maybe a VW or a common Crown Vic? Nope, I think it is a Lexus?? Jimmy Swaggert would be proud. Russo, well, well, what a pair.. Birds of a feather.. Interesting.. Heard they tried to get Ron Creel again but he is now on the Tim James Committee now. This is about Roy not Alabama.. Trust me on this one.
Julie Sanders in her letter is doing nothing different than other political candidates do. For instance, 2010 gubernatorial candidate Tim James sent out letters asking for pledges as early as July 2008. See this link:

Keep in mind it is not illegal for private individuals (grassroots) to have informal communication with others regarding upcoming elections & candidates, including monetary support.
In fact, it seems to me that Ms. Sanders was actually informing folks of Alabama law by telling them individual donation limits & dates.
To say that Moore is going to have a hard time raising funds for this campaign, would be an understatement. His entire base of support, small as it is, is entire a grassroots effort. Moore didn’t have the support of the “country club Republicans”, the Brooks Brothers suit-wearing, big check writing, heavy bank rolling business establishment, and I don’t see him getting that endorsement this go around, either. Like it or not, the big donors are the financial backbone of any campaign.
Let’s not forget that in his 2006 campaign, he ticked off much of the state GOP establishment by making the claim that Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh, the head of ALGOP at the time, was biased with Bob Riley. He spent much of his time slamming his fellow Republicans, and he has since been sympathetic with the Constitution Party. That could come back to haunt him.
Last but not least, you may remember that Moore, after losing the primary, apparently did not even call Riley to concede and congratulate him. He publicly declared that he would not support Riley in the general election.
To a lot of people, myself included, that just seems like a case of the “sour grapes.” It’s only proper statesmanship after losing an election, no matter how bitter of a campaign it was, to call the victor, congratulate him, and wish him the best. Especially in a primary election, when the winner is from your own party. I understand that tough battles will be waged for the party nomination, but when the dust has settled and a winner is declared, it’s time to “kiss and make up” and get behind the party’s nominee 100%. The governor’s office is too big a prize to risk losing over petty intraparty squabbles.
I know in the movies, the underdog can defy all odds and end up winning the election, and heck, for all I know – Roy Moore may just surprise us all and win – but here in the real world, that rarely happens. I think it’ll come down to Bradley Byrne and Tim James for the Republican nomination.
Nice try, #13. You can’t excuse a felony by saying others are guilty. This should be prosecuted.
BTW I think James quit doing anything because – as was publicized at the time and Moore would have known this – the AG informed candidates that you cannot solicit in any form before June 1. Yet Roy did it anyway. Amazing disregard for the law.
You know, he may have done it on purpose just to get a “He hate me” boost to his anti-establishment campaign. In my opinion, that’s exactly why he continued to defy the federal court order back in the day, to boost his gubernatorial ambitions.
#14, you could also mention that in October of 2004 – less than a month before the presidential election between George W. Bush and John Kerry – Moore appeared on Fox News and declare that he supported the candidacy (though he used the word “supported” while saying he could not “endorse” due to his position with a nonprofit foundation – curious semantics there)of the third-party fringe candidate of the Costitution Party – NOT George W. Bush, who was locked in a tight election with an ultraliberal Democrat.
Roy Moore is not a Republican. He’s a Roy Moore. He wants to use the party to advance himself – not the other way around.
The party should consider not allowing him to run as a Republican. he has given them ample reasons to do so.
I’m assuming Moore will not run as a Republican but as an Independent.
By taking money June 1st he HAS to run as a Republican or Democrat by law. Otherwise he would have to wait until November to raise money as THAT would be “12 months before an election in which he will be a candidate.”
Of course, he’s breaking the law anyway so why not break that one too?
Although I would not be shocked if his “campaign staff” (read: nut case Dean Young) doesn’t know that independent candidates cannot raise money before November. Moore was actively trying to obtain 37,000 signatures to run as an Independent until recently . . .
Has anyone ever noticed that in Judge Moore’s picture (the one used with Danny’s post) his eyes are crossed?
Also, the Republican Party is never metioned ion the solicitation letter. Not once. He’s no Republican.
Moore will have no problem raising money, if the Trial Lawyers feel he’s a big enough drag on the Republican Primary. They have been funding Trojan Horse candidates in the Republican Primary for the last several elections.
moore disregards the law…that is his history folks…
People Roy Moore has publicly opposed:
1) Governor Bob Riley
2) President George W. Bush
3) Congressman Spencer Bachus (Moore’s attorney Phillip Jaregui ran against him)
4) GOP Chair Twinkle Andress Cavanaugh
5) Former Attorney General Bill Pryor
6) The Entire Alabama Supreme Court (predominantly GOP)
7) Every Other Judge in America
People Supported by Roy Moore:
1) Roy S. Moore
Maybe Moore is running as a Democrat? He has the trial lawyer backing; he used to BE a Democrat; he hates Bob Riley . . .
Ya know, Judge Moore is always displaying a picture of himself in judge’s robes. Are court-martialed soldiers allowed to go around in military uniforms? Can defrocked ministers wear clerical collars?
Judge Moore needs a new picture with more appropriate attire. Here is my suggestion (linked):
madmaxine.wordpress.com/2008/10/19/strait-jacket/
After reading the letter, as well as the comments, I feel compelled to reply. Has she read the history of why Maryland was founded, or Rhode Island? Or what happened to some of the religious “heretics” in those colonies? Is there a difference in then and what is happening now? Are the “unbelievers” to be run under? If this country is based on religious freedom, freedom to believe, or not, is our right. Are people of different faiths or beliefs to be treated differently? Are people of other beliefs going to be forced to attend her church (of course, the one and only true church)and believe her way? And, who will decide if your faith is “true?” That’s frightening to think about. Our country has fought many wars and conflicts so we all may enjoy freedom. Personal and religious freedom. Many have died.
Also, Christianity is a religious minority in the world. If Ms. Sanders is against all other religions, then do we really have equality, or is that just a term that she uses, but does not mean. Equality for who? Even the Muslim religion has roots that trace to Abraham and Sarah. Are they to be banished from this state? Or any state? What about people of the Jewish faith? You will probably say no, but is that what you actually mean? It seems that you refer to other beliefs as godless. And less than equal. As long as we ascribe to her, the backers of Moore, and Moore, beliefs and religion, we will be ok. Maybe we could have separate areas for those “other” people. You know, separate but equal. Until taught better, of course. A very learned minister once said told me there are many ways up the same mountain. Until we are able to be tolerant of other people, and beliefs, we will continue to have inequality, and hate. You say our education is poor, but every time something is said about giving more to education, it is turned down. All ready given too much, used poorly. The lowest in the nation. I am sure my own personal religious convictions will be questioned by this post. You would rather attack me as a person, use your intolerance to foment anger under the guise of being a better christian. I am reminded of the saying by Santayana, “Those who forget the past are condemned to repeat it.”
Actually, what is amazing is all you folks being so willing to slander.
As you should know by now, it has come out the letter was sent out by a Ms. Sanders on her own nothing to do with Young or Moore or some conspiracy.
You really should have more honor that to throw out the garbage that you all have dished out on this thread.
Garbage? Slander? definition- to defame by propagating false tales. What is false? Conspiracy? Where oh where is that mentioned?
I would like to know if Roy Moore really used to be a Democrat as posted in post 25? Do you have a link to back that up? I think we do need to be carefull to only tell the whole truth & not just our opion.
The places I have checked, only list Moore as a republican. I have not found his affiliation in early years as a county judge. However, nothing I have seen refers to him as having changed his political affiliation. It may be possible that when Alabama flipped to the republican party, some people did flip to retain their elected office.
