Sue Bell Cobb, may want to cleanup the mess that her husband caused, while building there new home in Orange Beach Al. Before running for governor. This could cause her problems.

Obama was the most inspirational candidate the Dems could ever imagine, and he was crushed in Alabama, despite record black turnout. So the question is, what has changed? Is Artur Davis more inspirational? Is his voting record less liberal than Obama's? Does he have more money? A better message? A weaker opponent than John McCain?

I think he sounds like a smart guy. And I'd like to believe Alabama has made progress. But the people of this state don't vote for smart. And we haven't made that much progress since last November.

The more I think about the governor's race, the more I'm convinced that the Democrats are just blind to reality. What did Mark Twain say about the party?

Andy, Del is far from "another Republican ... trying to talk Cobb out of running." And I hope you don't put me in that category too. Cobb will make a great Gov. one day. There are forces at work this cycle that she cannot control.

Maybe you should call up Beasley, Avery, and others and convince them of your logic for stacking the Court with Cobb at the top of the ticket. Frankly, I'd be surprised if the Dems want to fight on yet another front with all the opportunities they have in 2010, especially considering the tightening of resources in this economy.

Also, if Cobb gives her slot on the court that spot is up in the 2010 election and will be running against the dead weight person that Riley appoints. So, if the trial lawyers want the court they can get someone else elected.

Cobb was set to go last Friday and pulled back. No#1 nailed this--according to more than a few, some AEA polling has Cobb way behind Davis with Davis showing very well in the general. By the way trial lawyers do not want her in, whether you think their logic is good or not, Beasley, Ginger Avery and some others are leaning very hard on her to stay put.

I will bet on one other factor cooling Cobb's heels. The Sessions for governor rumors are real. Cobb wants no part of Sessions.

Trial lawyers could care less about her 1 vote on the Supreme Court. That is the most ridiculous rumor out there.

Conservative Dem, I heard over 3 weeks ago that she wouldn't make a decision until mid to late summer. So, I don't see her as having cooled on anything.

Trial Lawyers stand a better chance of changing the Supreme Court if there is a strong candidate at the top of the gubernatorial ticket. Not to say that Davis wouldn't be strong but Cobb running for Governor could help the Trial Lawyers in 2010 on the court. They would gladly trade 1 Chief Justice for 2 Justices.

can't figure out WHY she'd do it...

doesn't she make close to twice as much as the Gov?

isn't the retirement better?

isn't it less stress?
