Young Skywalker to Play Former Riley Aide in Abramoff Movie

Hayden Christensen has been cast to play Michael Scanlon in Casino Jack, a movie about Scanlon’s partner-in-crime, lobbyist Jack Abramoff.

Scanlon served a stint as Bob Riley’s press secretary when Riley was a Congressman. Scanlon went on to serve as chief of staff for Congressman Tom Delay and became a close associate of Abramoff’s. The corruption investigation that led to guilty pleas from Abramoff and Scanlon also led to guilty pleas or convictions of Congressman Bob Ney (R – Ohio), White House officials Steven Griles and David Safavian, and others.

Scanlon, you may remember, worked to protect the gambling interests of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians, and it was his campaign contributions to organizations that later donated to Bob Riley’s gubernatorial campaign that led to accusations that Riley had accepted out-of-state gambling money to keep gambling out of Alabama.

Hayden Christensen played Anakin Skywalker in Episodes II & III of the Star Wars movies. I don’t know about you, but I look at the picture of Scanlon, and I see Dennis Quaid, especially a young Dennis Quaid.

Kevin Spacey has signed on to play Abramoff and has even visited Abramoff in prison.

There is also a documentary expected to be released later this year to be called Casino Jack: The United States of Money. And oddly enough, Abramoff himself has his own Hollywood ties; he produced the 1989 Dolph Lundgren action movie Red Scorpion and its sequel, Red Scorpion 2.

Would be nice to see the Troy King Character Played by Liza Minnelli. I know Troy will figure out a way to play a major part.

gilley is a bully. he thinks he can persuade the general masses to bombard public officials with calls, etc and thus sway them in the direction gilley wants. this will not work with folks like bob riley and andy hughes. those two represent what is good in public service, thankfully. on the other hand we have troy king, mark culver, and a few other cast of characters that lack true conviction and put their finger to the wind to see how they should sway… pathetic.

  • Thank you, Molly, for that delicious post.

Liza Manelli would be good as Troy King, but I think Nathan Lane was born for the roll. The delicate walk, soft hands… he’s perfect.

But they could go with more of an outside-the-box casting – Michael Jackson. Troy King played by the King of Pop?

  • wiregrassboondock

lol. Liza probably is a bit butch for this role.

  • Andy

Liza is too manly to play Troy. Nathan Lane actually has male genitalia so he wouldn’t be believable.

  • dylan

Everyone, please welcome molly from wiregrasslive.com.. Actually one of the more coherent of the gilley supporters.

Can you prove what you just said? I don’t think you can.Mr Gilley is a very good man,he is not a bully but on the other hand you have Riley, liar, backroom dealings, I would say a shady character and I can prove it.

  • Hoss Man

Andy – I assume that since you state that, “Nathan Lane has male genitalia,” you must have first-hand knowledge. Are you a girly-man or a manly-girl?

If you all are serious about this movie deal, and it involves something “rotten” in the governor’s office,

I think it’s time to call in “Yella Fella” since his series on Rotwood has ended, and he and his horse “Lemon Drop” just might be ready to saddle up and ride to the rescue.

Oh, yea, they could get Kenny Rogers to sing the theme for the movie.

If you put out a casting call, you might even be able to get George Jones to SHOW UP !!

  • wiregrassboondock

so sue, why has gilley been talking the last three nights on WSFA about leaving the state and going to Mississppi and leaving Dothan and all the gilley worshippers high and dry? That’s not nice. That’s a bulley.

  • 2010

riley – shady? get real. he is one of the best governors this state has ever had. i can’t take anything you say seriously, Sue. Let me guess, you also think harri anne smith is bright, articulate and a woman that stands on principle…

LOL….. Gilley is actually the only one of the 3 Stooges that I’ve ever met !!!!

  • wiregrassboondock

    and Troy really is King….

I figure Gilley, as well as King, will try to play a part in the movie Casino Jack. But, I see Gilley played by Randy Quaid, as in CHRISTMAS VACATION. Remember the beastly, bulging man emptying the sewer tank in the tenament on wheels (Bama Jam Bus for the movie) saying, “The sh#tter is full !!”

  • princeliberty

Riley is one of the best governors ever?

He has spend money on every special interest group.

Setting Alabama for a major budget crisis. By this time next year, Alabama will be in California stype mess. The only reason we are not in one now is the simulis money and Riley is spending reserves that are not supposed to go the general budget.

He has sold the state legal contracts to Jere Beasly in return for big bucks.

He is the back pocket of gambling interests.

He has appointed worthless people like Nabors and King to high positions.

Really, what on earth makes you think Riley is worth anything?

This article is not about Governor Riley. It is about a movie, and posters were having some light fun. For those of you who have nothing to say except some slanderous, venomous, unfounded accusations against the governor, please take it back to WiregrassLive where you and the rest of the Gilley followers thrive on this. You say the same things over and over, and none of these alleged actions have ever been proven true. Why don’t you concentrate on the real reason Gilley isn’t building his project ? He loves blaming the governor. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

  • wiregrassboondock

I have to agree with you on that prince…never have been a riley fan. But I think he and gilley run neck and neck on this bingo scam. and king. There are no winners in this daytime drama….too many divas. But it looks like the real losers will be the people of Houston County.

  • princeliberty

Riley and King are both been bought by gambling interests – just different ones.

  • wiregrassboondock

agree…but both with funding from Ms.

  • 2010

i just read on wsfa.com their report on “the next branson?” talking about country crossing. in that report, gilley said that electronic bingo was not even considered a part of the project until the economy tanked. that is the biggest bunch of sh*t I have heard lately. This project and the whole bingo issue was on the table way, way before the economy hit the skids. I find his statement amazingly false. Then he goes on about how this project could very well move to MS. Well, that will not surprise me….I have never thought it would come to be in Houston County.

  • wiregrassboondock

What I find amusing in all this seems to be that gilley either doesn’t care or doesn’t remember statements he made along the way…but my all time favorite comment from the “Branson” piece was when he said “I had never heard of electonic bingo”. Now that was funny. His messges to “his followers” have become fairly schizoid lately, as well.

  • 2010

i agree wiregrass – i also read that hard to believe comment about how he didn’t know what electronic bingo was. ummmmm…..maybe because it is a slot machine? as the project seems less and less likely i am not surprised his comments seem more and more off the wall. i think he is good at moving dirt around – but the project not ever coming to be as it was presented. Gilley, mark culver, harri anne smith, troy king and milton mcgregor – now that’s a fine crowd. well, i guess milton can atleast get his projects done.

  • angeline

Hayden Christensen kind of looks like the guy.
