Alabama Attorney General Troy King issued an opinion on a gambling permit for a developer, who threw him a party

  • CC Dollar

so who threw a party for the former AG who issued the same opinion??? they are starting to stoop low..we must be winning..

  • Anonymous

Suprise suprise, Gilley and King in bed together. Figured there was more to this than meek little Troy giving some friendly advice. I don’t think anyone can believe anything King and Gilley have to say about this from now on. Now we see Gilley has been pulling the strings on King from the start.

  • CC Dollar

    “from now on”

what!! what rock have you been under?? this is old news they’ve drug up here…whats funny is jay love finally admitting he was at a gilley party..

  • Anonymous

It may be old news to you but i haven’t seen it printed any whhere before. Opens my eyes to who gilley and TK is. BTW I think people could care less about Love, he’s a non-player on this issue.

  • CC Dollar

lol..looks like jay cared since he saw fit to comment…and your take on the pryor opinion issued well before the king opinion??

  • wiregrassboondock

I think this opens alot of people’s eyes, or at least confirms what alot of people have been thinking. CC$, for all your bravado, even you would have to admit this doesn’t look good.

  • Andy

So, King is in bed with instate gambling interests while Riley is in bed with out of state gambling interests.

I guess we will see who has more money and a better PR team. My bet is with Riley and the out-of-state money.

  • CC Dollar

don’t bother me..even the second time around…politicians attend this sort of thing all the time….why can’t anyone give their thoughts on the pryor opinion?…2 AGs with the same legal opinion?? don’t you find that a bit strange??

  • Fo-fiver

Can someone enlighten me as to what a “Conferdate Holiday” might be. One would think that the AP would be a bit more astute, but then again we hear each day about newspaper lay-offs. Perhaps they discharged their proof reader.

  • walt moffett

Maybe somebody would if there were links and a brief summary of the AG opinions, folks might be willing to talk about them.

On a totally different subject, funny how the trial lawyer supporting Anniston Star gets when one of their pet projects is jeopardized.

  • This was predictable — the King defenders (or Gilley supporters) were out in force on al.com as soon as the King story went online yesterday. I figured it would turn into a free-for-all here.

  • Gamblers4Troy

Troy just likes a good party. Remember this: “Alabama Power gives AG King Braves box seats”
    http://legacy.decaturdaily.com/decaturdaily/news/070115/seats.shtml

  • JD

    Don’t bother you?

Just like Phenix City wouldn’t have bothered you.

Gambling, government corruption and crime, all go hand in hand.

  • CC Dollar

i haven’t forgot where RG set you striaght on the “phenix city” comment you made awhile back,JD…even if you have….

and kathy…if you call this a free for all then you don’t know what a free for all is, hon…

  • princeliberty

Pryor was getting paid by the gambling interests too.

    Pryor was no good too.

    Its all really pathetic.

So when are we going to break up the good ole boy club in Montgomery?

The Republicans and Democrats both belong to it in this state.

  • princeliberty

Love needs to forget about running for Congress again.

If the Republicans run him again, Bright’s going to win again.

  • CC Dollar

so what came out of king using the skybox?? nothing?? what about the big investigation on troy king?? nothing?? also, i firmly believe the birmingham news is full of crap in regards to what they say our sheriff said in their article…he is supposed to make a statement on it today or tomorrow…we’ll soon see if he said all that or not..

  • wiregrassboondock

well, it looks like cc$ doesn’t get concerned about illegality as long as it benefits country crossing. nice to know you have scruples and standards. and by the way, if the sheriff doesn’t come out and say what you want to hear, does he get thrown under the bus like some other people in the houston county area have been?

  • CC Dollar

“well, it looks like cc$ doesn’t get concerned about illegality as long as it benefits country crossing.”

illegality??? show me someone under arrest for something, can you??….until then your comment is laughable..and i know my sheriff…i don’t believe he would make comments like those…we’ll find out soon though..

  • Anonymous

No, but lying about the Governor taking money certainly doesn’t bother RG or CC$. You and RG must have read Leon Trotsky because you run your campaign to fool the public with half-truths and lies to get gambling legalized just like he wrote about how to do it.

  • Tiger

Amazing you know so many people, According to CC$ he also knows the Pope, who shot Kennedy, and when Jesus is coming back. LOL

  • wiregrassboondock

“I know my sheriff”… sure you do. I actually thought that the Sheriff showed alot more integrity with what he said then just about anyone else on this issue. He stated the truth, he is there to uphold the law and he will abide by that. Let’s see, how long will it take the commission who have their arms twisted behind their backs to turn and twist the arm of the sheriff who just said what he should have said-which is that he has no opinion other than doing his job to support the law and to serve and protect his citizens.

  • Andy

It isn’t a lie that Bob Riley took millions in campaign contributions from Mississippi gambling. Most of the anti-lottery campaign was funded from Mississippi too.

Its a fact that they don’t want competition from Alabama.

Its just funny to watch the Republican party continue to infight.

  • wiregrassboondock

#24 It probably isn’t a lie about Riley and the Ms. funds. I’m not a repub or dem so I won’t defend him. It is interesting that the legislation to fight pac to pac transfers have ended up where it has though. Seems like neither side wants to do away with that.

  • CC Dollar

boondock wrote..”#24 It probably isn’t a lie about Riley and the Ms. funds. ”

begs the question..i wonder what all else we may be right on??

  • wiregrassboondock

“i wonder what else we may be right on?”

lol. I suspect in your case…nothing. I said it probably isn’t a lie, I have no proof one way or the other. I could care less about riley.

    heard from your sheriff yet?

  • William

Would someone please prove (in writing) that Riley took MS gambling money? There is NO way that if he did that it was as much as is being reported. He didn’t even spend that much on the entire campaign (check the reports).

  • princeliberty

Alabama’s campaign disclosure laws are a joke.

Riley took money from PACS that took money from the gambling interests.

So common sense tells you what was up.

  • Hoss Man

Boondock – Sheriff Andy read the permit issuance rules that were passed by the Houston County Commission and then, to cover his ass he asked the Attorney General’s opinions lawyer if he had to follow the rules. The AG’s opinion’s lawyer said yes. It was so easy a fifth grader could have figured it out. But, Sheriff Andy wanted to keep stradling that political fence and make it look like the AG was forcing him to issue a permit. 80% of Houston County’s voters may soon teach him what splinters can do to that part of the anatomy. But, maybe the Birmingham News twisted his words just to make King look bad. It wouldn’t be the first time, and won’t be the last. Political season is here!

  • CC Dollar

i love the fact that milton is going full blast right up the road from the state capitol….. and bobby boy evidently can’t do a damn thing about it…

  • CC Dollar

Hoss man…i think the voters in houston are fine with sheriff hughes…he’s done a great job so far…he was and is the best choice by far…

  • wiregrassboondock

“80% of Houston County’s voters may soon teach him what splinters can do to that part of the anatomy”

    really?

  • Hoss Man

CC – I hope you are right. His incredible comments to the Birmingham News formed my opinion. Unless they outright distorted and twisted what he said, I fear my opinion may be right. I will grant you, when King is in their cross hairs they don’t hesitate to distort, mislead and manipulate…and that’s common knowlege even among many who disapprove of King.

Boondock – Today’s crop of Houston Countians don’t take kindly to Sheriffs who are politicians first, and lawmen second. He can be voted out just as easily as he was voted in. Fact.

  • Andy

A pac that received millions from Mississippi casinos gave a very large donation to Bob Riley. Plus, Rob Riley does some very lucrative legal work for the Mississippi Indians that run the casinos.

  • Hoss Man

Andy – The Royal Riley’s and the Bible Slapping Baptists can take – and have taken – all the gambling money they can spend from the Mississippi Choctaws. The Birmingham Snooze is too busy chasing a public event from a year and half ago that has been thoroughly reported on from day one by the Wiregrass news media. No wonder the big city hot stuff newspapers are going broke. They try to “make” news, not “report” news.

  • wiregrassboondock

hoss-either you want him to be a politician or you don’t…which is it? If I were Sheriff Hughes I wouldn’t feel like I had to say anything. He didn’t do anything wrong but stay nuetral.

Fact. Do you really think the majority of people in Houston County cares what his opinion on country crossing is? If you do then you are delusional.

  • Hoss Man

Boon – I never said anything about wanting Sheriff Andy to be a politican, or not. As an elected official he has to be a politician to a reasonable degree. But, as a constitutional officer of the law – which Sheriff Andy is – he is required to enforce the law, not try to hide from it behind someone else’s back – politics be damned. That’s what Houston Countians want, and deserve. Fact.

  • Margaret

Alabama disclosure laws are a joke because of the Democratic leadership in the state Senate. If we change the Senate we can change the state.

  • Gunney Highway

    Marg,

That statement barely merits laughter. Ask your boss about his veto of some executive ethics last year.

And I also sincerely appreciate his complete misrepresentation of fact at Sam’s two weeks ago. Reading the ethics law before discussing it would be a wise idea for a lame duck governor attempting to shift the media and public focus from his rather noteworthy and controversial out-of-state campaign donors.

I can still shoot a hole in the right cheek of a gnat’s ass at 1000 yards.

  • William

Wow, Gunney Highway, ignorance must really be bliss. Riley has been trying to pass ethics reform since you could shoot a hole in the side of a barn with a shotgun (quite a long time ago).

  • Doozey

Well, three new Senators will be in for the 2010 session…maybe even the special, if one is called, this year.

That would shift the good-ol-boy alliance of Jabo and Lowell now wouldn’t it?

They all get Senatitis…a swelling of the ego due to Senate exposure. Only a few like to move good bills at all, and don’t think the Republicans – just because the Christian Coalition backs them – are good either.

This all comes down to Bob Riley trying to act like George Wallace – as far as power is concerned – and the legislature wielding its post-Wallace power against his will.

The simply truth is a mix of all the comments above and some may include the lack of any laws restricting “lobbying of the Governor”. PACs make it easy to follow the money, individuals who get cash in their pockets from whomever and look like a genuine supporter giving from the heart is where another problem lies. At least we can read about who pays Troy Queen and where he goes; it’s the Govlings, the legislators and all their personal friends we don’t hear about. Why not send someone to the lobbyist parties and fundraisers and have some of these people “made” – just to hold everyone involved in the political process responsible.

What about Twinkle’s move to the Montgomery County Commission? How is that good at all? She’s working in the Finance Department – for Riley, who gets to appoint her…how is that not Louisiana, Huey Long sleaze to the Nth degree?

  • Bowell Larron

Hey CC – how did BamaJam get the right to sell beer?

  • Gunney Highway

    William,

Unfortunately, your comments are emblematic of the difficulty in observing a casual conversation with your type.

If that’s really your understanding of what’s transpiring in Montgomery…well then I apologize for not explaining it to you more thoroughly. The Governor has been touting ethics reform since he has been in office, only none that directly impacts his own office. So while naivety will allow the lay person to ascertain that he’s a reformer of the highest moral character, a realist with 15 cents worth of G2 can distinguish the difference between his comical antics and a true reformist agenda.

Check out Representative Jeff McLaughlin when in need of ethical reform. Note that his package doesn’t include a traveling clown show at Sam’s. A clown show I might add, that offers the public a rather candid viewpoint from which to observe that Bob doesn’t even really know what the hell our current ethics law says. Which is to say that he should probably give it a look before attempting to change it.

    http://www.montgomeryadvertiser.com/article/20090419/NEWS0201/904190304/1009/rss04

But hey, please let Bob know I’d like an IPOD Nano the next time he’s over that way. And make it a 12G one so I can download some more Dead shows on it. They take up a lot of space.

Also, I can drink more beer and bang more @%^$ than you and all of your sissy friends put together.
