Greg Albritton Wins GOP Primary in SD22

Greg AlbrittonFormer state representative Greg Albritton secured the Republican nomination for Senate District 22 tonight without a runoff. In a race against Judy Belk and Danny Joyner, Albritton received ~57% of the vote.

In the general election on June 2, Albritton will face state Rep. Marc Keahey who was unopposed for the Democratic nomination.

State Rep. Mike Hubbard, chair of the state GOP, issued a statement:

The Alabama Republican Party congratulates Greg Albritton on his victory today, this was a hard fought primary, and we would have been well represented by all three candidates in the general. The Party commends Judy Belk and Danny Joyner for the manner in which they conducted their campaigns, their knowledge of the issues facing our State and for their dedication to their district. As we look forward to the general election, we look forward to working closely with Greg’s campaign, and to providing the resources needed, to ensure that the next Senator in District 22 is a Republican. The people of this district deserve to be represented by a true conservative, someone who will look out for them, not someone who will vote to raise his own taxpayer-funded salary – the only candidate in this race that can make that promise is Greg Albritton.

Marc Keahey has a large cash advantage at this point, but the state GOP could potentially drop a bundle from its flush coffers.

The special election was made necessary by the unexpected passing of Pat Lindsey (D – Butler) in January.
