Let’s see… Roger Bedford is the version of Jim Folsom that actually did get indicted, has a documented history of abusing his office, and has never managed to win a statewide election. Bedford would legitimately and deservedly be painted as a corrupt Democrat who would set Alabama back for years. He is about as unelectable as a white guy in Alabama can get.

this means that they are struggling with artur at the top of the ticket. but this is a big stretch, why doesn’t joe turnham just run against artur since he is obviously trying to find someone to do it

  • Blue Dog

Anon #2 – You’re mistaken if you think anyone is consulting Turnham in all this. Turnham takes marching orders, doesn’t give them.

    fair enough.

  • I’m thinking this interview was conducted between the time Folsom said I’m out and Ron said he was in.

But I’ve just had someone suggest otherwise.

Democrats are scraping at the bottom of the barrel these days. Isn’t the state democratic party in the red too? Obama is helping with 2010 and we will see a sweep of republicans taking over a lot of seats and just may end up with control by a seat or two. Payback will be a bitc……..come 2010.

  • Is this the only picture we have of Bedford? This is from like 20 years ago.

I say “Go Bedford!” He’s a good guy who actually wants to help Alabama!

  • #6 I dont know about Alabama. But the democrat parties in Mississippi and Tennessee are both broke and huge infighting is occuring. Their even being forced out of their offices in Tennessee. As far as Bedford goes. I guess the dems have given up on getting Obama to give “the Don” a pardon so he could run. They probably would be better off getting Lowell to run. Lowell’s just as crooked as Bedford is but at least he hasnt been indicted.

  • Baudrillard

No. 2, I don’t think the State party is recruiting Bedford because they are scared of Davis. If anything, Bedford would ensure a Davis victory by siphoning off votes from Sparks.

  • anon

y’all make good points about sparks/bedford splitting the votes paving a way for david. makes sense.

  • Von Buskirk

Bedford has the charisma factor that is lacking from Artur. Won’t comment in Bedford’s ethics, but as far as a winning smile, he’s got a bit of the Bill Clinton pinache.

  • How does Bedford “siphoning off votes from Sparks” help Davis in a 3 person race? Either Davis gets 50%(+1) or he doesn’t.

  • Brian Johnson

No. 2, No. 3, and No. 10 – If you really think that race isn’t an issue and a backlash won’t occur with Republicans voting in the Democratic Primary to prevent an Obama facsimile from ever reaching the top of the ballot in the Gret Stet of Alabama.

I’m sorry, but blacks won’t turn out for Artur like they did Obama. Artur has shafted too many of them in the past. They don’t march in lock-step as a race. Some people like to think different or think for themselves.

Bedford will raise money. The end.

The only thing better than Folsom not running is Sparks running…now BEDFORD!?! I am trying not to get giddy! Is this the April Fools (day after) joke?

  • 2010

davis, sparks and bedford. Lord, help us all…

  • Reactionary

#14 – Republicans will be busy voting in their own Primary.

  • STANDUPFORBAMA

Doubt it would happen but is there any chance that Sparks would change parties and run as a Republican?

That would really shake up politics in Alabama.

  • anon

please don’t let ron sparks witch parties.

  • anon

    switch parties

  • William

What are the standards for switching parties? Sparks is no Republican.

GO BEDFORD! Bedford represents the district that I am a resident of and he has went above and beyond to help everyone in his district. I am certain that if he is elected governor he will do the same for all the citizens of Alabama.

  • Baudrillard

No. 14, Repubs won’t be voting in the Dem primary, given the issues in their own primary. You assume that they’d rather have any Dem Gov over Davis. Most Repubs I know would rather have a GOP Gov over ANY Dem candidate, Davis or not.

And as for Davis courting the black vote, I think he will be a factor, and anyone who says otherwise is foolish. Not simply because he’s black, but because the other two candidates are from North Alabama. There is a solidarity that voters in Montg and Mobile have with a candidate from the middle of the State that they don’t share with a candidate from the Shoals or from DeKalb County. And that’s not even taking race into account.

All that said, it will be an interesting season.

Directed to the first comment “Deservedly be painted as a corrupt Democrat who would set Alabama back for years.” Lets address the corrupt part first….Ok what happened to innocent until proven guilty? If you would look past the mud slinging political tactics used to try and get a man that has held his district since 1982 you would see these have all been accusations! Sometimes when people can’t beat you the do anything or say anything they can to beat you. Yes all the stuff that Roger has been accused of would give the average person who is not around it a bad idea, but as you can see his constituents see the truth. I challange you to see what all Roger has brought to his district! It is amazing and if you would just think he would do that for the entire state! I challenge everyone to not form your opinion of Roger through rumors or onesided newspapers!

  • William

You said plenty when you said, “I challenge you to see what all Roger has brought to his district”. THAT is the only reason that his constituents keep voting for him – he brings home the bacon at the expense of the rest of the state.

Be Careful What You Ask For

Alabama just finished one of the bizarre primary election cycles in recent memory. I mean really, who would have ever thought 12 months ago that Ron Sparks and Robert Bentley would have been facing off against one another for the big prize? Both men are personal friends but I think even they had to [...]

Regardless of Political Stripes Vote Tomorrow

As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
