Those interested in the Committee prepares to review Ala. gov contracts article, can find the Permanent Joint Legislative Contract Review Oversight Committee’s agenda (and synopsis of the contracts) in pdf on the web. Happy hunting.
What timing? The Gov is trying to get a case dealing with bingo to the appeals courts. About the same time he recommends the hiring of Arthur Ray to do legal work for the Medicaid Dept. How convenient it is that Ray is the husbands of chief appeals judge and GOP party member Kelli Wise. Something smells here.
Wise is a judge on Criminal Appeals. The White Hall case is in civil court.
Too bad these Dems didn’t care as much when they did this contract:

#2 glad other folks are smelling the same think we’ve been smelling…
same thing we’ve been smellin, rather..
the guy rode in here on corruption and he’ll go out the same way..
If Riley “rode in on corruption,” we truly are in a sorry state, considering his opponent in ‘02 just had his corruption convictions affirmed on appeal.
When people engage in hyperbole, I tend to discount whatever it is their selling.
From the Bham News “global warming” article:
Even Republicans in Alabama’s congressional delegation, longtime critics of cap-and-trade bills, say Obama’s comment about “regional differences” was a breakthrough.
“That’s a step in the right direction,” said U.S. Rep. Spencer Bachus, R-Vestavia Hills. “But we’ll have to see which regions and which differences. The devil is in the details.”
Rep. Bachus needs to reconsider his position – IMO cap and trade is an Enron-like scheme. The only ‘real’ part of cap and trade is the tax increase on energy.
The reporter describing this scheme where the Government allocates resources as “market-based” is another example of the newspeak common in the Obama administration / sycophantic news media.
Thank goodness for Sen. Sessions:
Sen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., remained skeptical, calling cap-and-trade, in any form, a government interference in the economy that would put a huge new tax on energy.
Spencer went off the reservation a long time ago. Its time to recruit a new, real Conservative to run for that seat.
Agreed Scorpius. Who?
Paul DeMarco would make a natural fit for Spencer’s job. Smart, articulate and probably one of the best legislators we have in Montgomery today. I wish we had more like him.
Yeah I agree GOPGuy DeMarco seems to be someone that takes tough stances and everyone agrees with on the issues. He is a natural to become our next congressman.
Bachus isn’t voluntarily going any place unless he loses his lead Republican slot on the Finance Committee. The idea that DeMarco or anyone else could beat him is pretty fanciful–the 6th District is conservative but it is the kind of country club pro business district that actually approved of his vote on the bailout and respects the fact that he is not a hard right ideologue. By the way, If Bachus did retire, Steve French or Cam Ward would have a lot better shot than DeMarco.
#13 you are right Bachus will not be leaving any time soon. Also, DeMarco will have to overcome the “whimp” factor to win this race. He is a bright guy but will still have a tough time proving he is bigger than a good photo-op. Still if Bachus were to leave he would have to be considered a real contender.
What about sending someone from the business side rather than a career politician?
Perhaps we are in a new politial period. Certainly, many ladies voted for Obama in the last election.
I hope Paul Demarco does not try to start a fight to play up to the ruffians.
He needs to keep the ladies on his side.
