Most Siegelman Convictions Upheld

The U.S. 11th Circuit Court of Appeals today upheld 5 of the 7 counts on which former Gov. Don Siegelman was originally convicted. AL.com has it.

  • I wonder who that horrible wal mart & halliburton loving Karl Rove bribed at the 11th circuit? The best thing about this ruling though is that Richard Scrushy is still locked up. Sure its not a max and the case he’s in for isnt the one that he should be doing time for but at least he’s locked up.

Since Siegelman was released pending appeal, does this mean he goes back to prison?

I shop at Wal-Mart, Dan t, does that make me evil?

  • Reactionary, there will be another sentencing hearing since the counts/convictions changed, as I understand it.

Since obama is now the president, and siegelman’s conviction still got upheld, does that mean bush and rove are behind the scenes even in the obama administration? Wow, now THAT is power my friends

Karl Rove’s sole focus and purpose in life is to get Don Siegelman. TO get this done, he controls evertying, judges, presidents, prosecutors and most of all juries. Karl was outside of the jury room using mental telepathy to influence the jurors. He was dressed as a US Marhsall. He actually wrote the decision for the court. You can find the initials “KR” on the water mark of the paper. Once Don is back in jail, not telling who Karl will pick on next. Troy King?

Any wagers on whether after the new lighter sentences, Scrushy gets to walk out of prison (considering time served) while Siegelman gets has to serve another month or three?

  • FactFinder

Walt- Scrushy stays where he is reversal on two counts only apply to DS.they will ask to have the full 11th panel look at it.

Since Seigelman has shown no remorse for his crime, could he recieve a longer sentence under Federal Guidelines?

Thanks for setting me straight, fact finder. I need to read for comprehension.

Full 11th Circuit, Supreme Court, then back thru the mill on new and material grounds, etc while the money to pay the bills holds out. Some where along the way, somebody will try to get one of human rights courts involved too.

Actually, Walt, Siegelman’s convictions run concurrently and, as a result, Judge Fuller could keep the sentence the same. Siegelman’s lawyers have done nothing to help his cause by lambasting the judge over and over again. Plus, the eleventh circuit is made up of all republicans. So your walking out in one or three months does not hold up. I am posting this for fact only since most people on this blog do not treat each other with any semblance of civility.

    #12,

The Eleventh Circuit is most certainly not made up of all Republicans. Just off the top of my head I can name the following Eleventh Circuit who are Dems: Hull, Marcus, Wilson, Barkett, and Anderson. And Wilson and Barkett are not just Dems, they are wacky liberals.

Mullet, if you are correct, he still has no chance since 5 out of 16 is not enough votes.

I wonder how long before the Siegelman camp whips up a pardon Don campaign. Probably about all of three hours. I think this may be an interesting political test for Artur Davis’ campaign. There appears to some bizarre convergence of Siegelman diehards who dislike Davis because he has not been an ardent enough defender of Siegelman. They will likely try to blast Davis into advocating for a pardon, a stance which would attract a lot of criticism from a lot of quarters.

I will be curious how Davis handles this issue. I have talked to one pollster who says that the only time Davis’ numbers have noticeably dropped with white voters was around the time he was receiving a lot of attention as an aggressive Siegelman advocate. On the flip side, Davis seems to have problems with hard core party activists who are not a big voter bloc but do provide the organizing troops in some counties. They may be sympathetic to a pardon Don crusade.

    #14,

I think the 11th Circuit consists of 12 judges.
