Smitherman Elected Senate President Pro Tem Posted by Danny, on February 5th, 2009, at 5:49 pmState Sen. Rodger Smitherman (D – Birmingham) was elected Senate President pro tem today to fulfill an agreement made two years ago. The vote was 18 – 12. With one exception, senators voted as expected. Democrat Tom Butler voted with the Democratic majority though last year he caucused with the Republican minority coalition.
