In the AL-05 race, the Christian Coalition of Alabama does not care for the “Misleading Attack Ads By Casino-Funded Freedom’s Watch,” according to a Friday release from CCA Chairman Randy Brinson. Freedom’s Watch ran the ads against Democratic candidate Parker Griffith on behalf of Republican Wayne Parker.
It’s hard to know what to excerpt from their release, as it is all pretty interesting reading. Some will nods their heads in agreement, others will be incensed.
Here are a couple of excerpts:
Given the nature of the attacks on Griffith, it is especially important to note that the person funding and directing the decisions at Freedom’s Watch is casino baron, Sheldon Adelson. Adelson has made billions of dollars in the Las Vegas casino industry and through his investments in China. His casinos have been fined $1 million for rigging games; he is under investigation by the federal government for coercing employees into giving up health insurance; and he spearhead and funded the lobbying effort to secure the Olympics for China in the face of the public outcry over China’s human rights record and persecution of Christian missionaries.
And…
Our hope is that this Congressional race will be determined on the issues that concern all Christians, particularly issues of preservation of life and preservation of the traditional family. We would welcome a conversation by Wayne Parker and Parker Griffith that focused on these more important issues to the people of the fifth district.
You can read it all here.
Randy Brinson, the head of the CCA, interviewed Parker Griffith, and you can see video from that interview here.
This is not your father’s CCA.

Dan you did not address any of the arguments. So you’re not from north Alabama. Admit it instead of lying, please.
Bud Cramer was in the middle of the mess of the past 8 years and if Parker Griffith says he is just like them he will be more of the same. But frankly Griffith is more liberal than Cramer and his voting record confirms it.
Vote Wayne Parker and see real change and a true representation of someone who has lived in north Alabama his entire life and loves the district dearly.
I finally had a chance to read through all the blogs regarding the 5th Congressional Race and found it quite interesting… so, I thought I would clear up a lot of misconceptions, and hope the political parlor will help correct those that have some kind of axe to grind with the Christian Coalition..
1. I have been a fairly partisan republican for most of my political career… My political mantle has been a lot like the plaque that says, if you dont feel close to God, guess who moved…Now, I dont pretend to have all the answers and we are not on the level of God, but it was some folks in the republican party that lost their way and moved, not those that wnat to promote Christian values.
2. Specifically, I have supported Jeff Sessions, Shelby, Aderholt, Mike Rogers and a host of other republicans because they are good folks with the concerns of everyday Christians at the top of their priorities.
3. I also recognize that in order to find a solution to issues that concern us, that we have to forge coalitions to make things happen, from health care reform, education, and controlling gambling and other social ills.
4. Christian Coalition doesnt receive money from gambling interests or their affliates, we depend on private donations to continue. Those on the blog that believe otherwise, if they have the courage to talk to me, instead of hide behind the internet, then I will be happy to show them our books..
5. CCA neither endorsed Wayne Parker or Parker Griffith, in fact, we made it widely known that they would both have access to our database and would be willing to let them speak to the entire list of supporters, which numbers about 100,000 in the fifth district… Same offer for Jay Love and Bobby Bright…
6. The republican party has received support from me personally, and in fact, in 2006, requested to use my plane to raise money in Washington DC, which included Mike Hubbard, Cam Ward, and Jay Love….it cost over 10,000 dollars, never got a thank you note or asked to be involved to help their agenda…
7. So, in closing, we have helped numerous republicans and they have done well, some have chosen not to engage us, and have fared poorly in the recent elections…
8. Still trying to figure out how some of you guys think that I am supportive of democrats over republicans, or have a liberal social agenda, cant figure that out… I am a big supporter of Huckabee and helped him win the republican primary in the state.
I thought this would be important for many of the folks to know the truth…
Randy Brinson, MD
Nice try Brinson. I don’t buy your spin. You like Dems – plain and simple.
Its amazing how an article on negative political ads so quickly becomes an ad hominum attack on randy brinson. Brinson is not the issue, the ads are.
