The Geneva County Republican Executive Committee was wrong not to take action on this matter. Party labels mean nothing when a committee member openly supports a member of the other party.
A member of a party committee may vote as he or she wishes, but to remain in good standing, that individual should not work against the party where they hold an office.
The Democrats routinely ignore the Radney rule, which forbids a candidate running as a Democrat if they openly supported a Republican in the previous election. Bobby Bright has openly stated that he voted in THIS YEAR’S Republican Presidential primary for Mike Huckabee. The Democrats ignored their rules.
Danny, for what it is worth this occured last night. this story has been butchered from the beginning, it is absolutely irrelevant. seems alot of people think they know what they are talking about, however they are misinformed. but as seen with most of the commenters here, the truth shall not get in the way of their own fabricated story.
Smith will be dealt with in due time.
John….Party labels are what is wrong here. This country has been ruined by people picking party of constitutes and country. It makes me sick to see one party toss away a good idea just because the other party came up with it. To me, this decision is a small step to better this country and not party.
Post 4, the country has been ruined by elected officials that lack core beliefs…such as those that sell their endorsement to the highest bidder. the fact that she shopped her endorsement should make folks sick. Harri Anne will be dealt with after Nov. 4. The AL GOP will take care of that.

The Alabama GOP is in a sorry state due to a severe lack of leadership. Mike Hubbard should resign in shame when the Democrats run the table on Nov 4.
Looks like the only wins for the GOP will be Sessions and Windom.
As Paul Reynolds said in his interview with The Dothan Eagle, “There is no smoking gun here” when asked about any proof in the republican party accusation, that Smith took money for an endorsement.

This whole ordeal is an embarrassment to us Republicans who are educated enough to know that when it comes to politics, it is okay to think outside the box.
I’m glad HAS did what she did. It’s sad; however, that Hubbard/ross/Love came back at her the way they did. This makes republicans in general look horrible. As though we have to ONLY endorse/ vote for other republicans even though they are not of character to be in elected office.

I see all these threats the GOP is making to kick Smith out of the party. Anyone ever thought she might actually want to get kicked out? If and when the state GOP executive committee kicks her out of the party it will cause the GOP major problems in the next senate race.

Love and Hubbard will do anything and say anything they can to sway voters. This includes by deception, lies, more deception and more lies. This is a fact and been proven throughout this entire race. What a shameful campaign strategy! Maybe both will get booted out of all party affilations after this thing has been settled. That would be best for all involved.

Bill Harris, for the past several weeks, has been traveling on the State Republican Candidate tour bus and is working for the Alabama Republican Party, regardless of who is signing his pay check.
The fact is, this rumor was initiated by Harris while under the supervision of Ross, ie. The Alabama Republican Party—Can you say MIKE HUBBARD!!!

Lowell Barron is raising money for Smith. Did anyone notice her two “statements of support” the other day? Smith is a welcomed FORMER member of the GOP tent. Plus, who wants an idiot like that in the party anyway.
i think bill was doing what he was told to do. he has been loyal from all of the reports, and has held true to his “confidentiality agreement.” but there are a couple of consultants who are obviously running around, CB, that feel they need to get a little more attention and want to stir the pot for their own benefit. pathetic.
It is one thing to be a Republican and support a Democrat or two. It is one thing to be a Democrat and support a Republican or two.
It is entirely another to endorse the Democratic opponent of the Republican who beat you in the primary, and to do so out of bitterness that, because you are a terrible candidate and don’t go to any candidate forums or try (and try to coast on a self appointed selection committee), your opponent beats you. Jay sold a lot of five-dollar foot-longs to get to where he could make the same kind of investment Harri Anne did. Had he lost, he would not have endorsed Bright to get some of that money back. That is the difference in character between Jay and Harri Anne, and while I understand that strong party leadership will always lead to some level of discontent among some factions, the endorsement of a Democrat against the Republican who beat you fair-and-square in the primary (and Jay ran a FAR more positive campaign against Harri Anne than she ran against him) should give that faction pause and lead them to ask themselves whether they are finally blurring the line between undermining party leadership and undermining the party to the benefit of Democrats and Democrats alone. Primaries involve necessary destructive behavior against the other candidates, and that is understandable. Attacks after the fact are not understandable, and the endorsement of the opponent is something from which those who backed Harri Anne might wish to distance themselves from immediately. There are many who will stay on the sidelines knowing that dissension within a party is healthy. When that dissension risks the failure of one of the Top 5 races in the country and a must-hold Republican seat, then those who would otherwise sit back and not take sides might rather quickly against those risking self-destruction to spite those who are where they wish to be.

Jay Love has run the most negative campaign for this position from start. You know it as well as all others. He blatantly lied against Harri Anne and is now doing the same against Bobby Bright.(Not any difference) Although he has really blown it by distorting the Bright statement in his feeble efforts to fabricate the totally false ad that is presently running about Bright. (This is nothing but low life hypocrisy on Loves part). Harri Anne knew his tactics and stated it best when she informed Voters that Love was not the right choice for Congress, therefore, she was endorsing Mr. Bright due to his stand on the issues, his leadership, character and morals. She knew that she could not support Love because he lied against her and now Bright. I am very proud of her for having both the courage and stamina to recognize and take the right stance. This reflects her strong christian values. I personally respect and applaud her for making a courageous decision to do the right thing against adversity from her party members.
And yes this is an important election as they all are, but let’s not forget that all elections should be about voters electing the person whom possesses the highest standard of morals, character and trust. All these traits are not just important but to are required from a person elected to represent them in a Congressional seat…not just party affilation.

Post 28 – you should not be proud of Smith. I have known her since she was a Mayor but more closely associated with her since she became a Senator. She has no core values as shown in her elected service. None. When any big issue would come up she would poll to see how she should vote. She would either run a poll or ask her fellow geneva and houston county counetparts in the house what to do. she kept swinehart as a consultant the whole time. that is an absolute fact. let’s just be honest. harri anne is not very bright. nor is she truthful. she jumped in this race for congress because a few folks in dothan know she would have been easy to control. period. well, what they didn’t count on is her laziness and her poor performance as a candidate. a total unknown almost beat her and cost here even a chance at the run off. but she made it to the run off and then fired her campaign staff and hired new ones. she gleefully told folks she hired the “butcher” meaning scott beason was going to come after jay love in a negative way. they may good on their promise and harri anne threw mud first. that is a fact. Jay love threw it back. harri anne then decided to convince a local mayor, who is now gone thankfully, to call a press conference and talk about what a big supporter harri anne is of fort rucker and how she is always there, etc. harri anne barely knew the way to ft rucker before that bogus of a press conference. that is a fact. she closed some of the gap with jay love due to the “oh God, Fort Rucker is closing, help me save it” scare tactic. Luckily, Love won. Now Harri Anne, bitter that she spent more of her own money than she wanted to on this race, started shopping around her endorsement. she told jay love she wanted 150,000, she told the pary that, and she was having folks call Jay Love and the pary telling them Harri Anne needed 150,000. When Jay nor the party would agree, she endorsed Bobby Bright. Did he pay? Did he know she was shopping the endorsement? I don’t know. But that fact that she shopped it and threatened the party with it, that is a fact. Now she endorses Bright and resorts to the same things she has done previously…yelling about ft. rucker, when she knows zero about the base, its impact, its missions, and accusing Jay Love of “lying about my record” and “throwing rocks.” Jay Love didn’t lie about her record nor about Brights. And Harri Anne gladly thre the first “rock.” That is a fact. I find all of this talk about her being honorable and doing what she thought was best for the district the biggest load of sh** I have heard lately. The folks that are in the know on this and on her just roll their eyes about it and are waiting until 2010 when she will be dealt with. Bright should have vetted her better. She may prove to be a liability and she certainly will not help him. Good for the press for actually covering this story and calling her out (to a degree) for what she has done.
Anyone that actually knows Harri Anne know everything I have said is true. period. She should have never run for Congress because she revealed to voters in her Senate district what an idot she actually is. Even before she endorsed Bright she had big trouble with re election in 2010. Geneva County may like her but she had lost the support and the votes in Dothan because people now see her for what she is….a dishonest self promototer. That is a fact.
Love has run a terrible campaign and is now desperate for attention. That’s why he is trying to get as many national endorsements as possible to try to save his chances after all this mess. It is obvious that he and the Alabama republican party leaders are scared. Get whining and try to campaign positive for once Love!

These are the best and most accurate posts on here. Thank you. HAS has let down the Republican Party and everyone who ever invested a vote in her. We cannot lose this seat to a Democrat. Honestly, I think she hurt Bright. I am a Dothan citizen who knows everything you’re saying is the truth. Harianne absolutely started the negative campaigning against Jay Love. I heard him on an interview with her on WTVY to join him in ending negative campaining. She laughed, and she would not agree. I’ve also heard her TRY to speak about issues, and there is a void there, except, “I can save Ft.Rucker.” That cry is the only reason she even made it to the run-offs. It truly is a sad day in AL if she costs the Republicans this valuable seat.
I disagree with you completely that it would be sad for Alabama to lose this Repub held seat. It would be a great thing if Alabama voters would elect the most honest and desirable person and forget about just party for a change. That’s exactly what is wrong with this political system today, it is all about “we got to maintain the party, party, party”. This is simply Bull Crap. District 2 Voters need to look at who is running in either party and elect the one most that is the most honorable candidate to serve in this seat for a change. Then, that persaon over party is what should count. Considering a certain party is just another way of keeping a select few people employed within that party, thats about the size of it and you know it is true! Let’s get past party and look closer at the person, their character and honor for a change and elect that person over party, how bout it?

I am not alleging Bright paid or agreed to pay 150,000 toward her debt. I don’t know that as fact. There are strong suspicions though as Smith does not do things like this unless they benefit her. Dear Post 38, you are laughable. Because Charlie serves in the Guard that means Harri Anne has been active at Fort Rucker? Because Harri Anne has been to a Friends of Ft. Rucker meeting has she actually been active at Ft. Rucker? The answer to both is NO. Ask the command at Rucker, ask local Mayor of Enterprise or Daleville, asl former and current Chairmen of Friends of Ft. Rucker. They will all tell you the same. They rarely if ever saw Smith at Ft. Rucker. Nor will they unless it is for a campaign purpose such as the day of Mayor Buntings bogus press conference. Even Bunting knows he went over the top and sretched the truth. It is what it is.
