Posted by Besides the denial in yesterday’s AP story, Bobby Bright’s campaign told WSFA-TV last night that there was no money-for-endorsement deal with Harri Anne Smith.
Bright called the allegations “ridiculous” and “libelous”.
“I never as mayor offered anybody any money for anybody’s endorsement and I have never given anybody authority to act on my behalf,” Bright said. “This is exactly what happened in the Republican primary, and it is now happening in this election and people need to vote on Nov. 4 to clean up this type of politics and campaigning. This is desperation politics and smear politics at its worst.”
The AP story yesterday did have this:
[State GOP Chair Mike] Hubbard said because of her endorsement, Smith would not be able to run for political office in the future as a Republican. Smith said she would remain a Republican and run as one.
Hubbard issued a statement today that backed off yesterday’s comment just a little bit, saying,
Any decisions to be made regarding candidacy for the 2010 election cycle will be made at the appropriate time by the Party’s Candidate Committee, and those decisions will be made pursuant to our bylaws. This is a critical election year, and with 14 days left, we are dedicated to working for our current candidates so that the people of Alabama are represented by strong conservative Republicans, and the race for the Second Congressional District is a perfect example.

This commercial was not a smart move on behalf of the Love campaign. This video was cut and it has become well known in the area. Love is making last minute attempts to hurt Bright.
Bad bad political move. There is less than two weeks left. A note of advice to the Love campaign: Don’t try to mislead people when there are other FULL copies of the breakfast video. very very unwise.
A U.S. Representative cannot be supportive of both a democratic agenda (Obama) and a republican agenda (McCain). Bright is a democrat and would support democratic policy. This “straddling the fence” Bulls—- of Bobby’s will not get by the intelligent voters on Nov. 4th.
People with “common sense” should know that. Bright is a democrat and will support OBAMA! He said it!
I saw the whole video and let’s be honest, it is not favorable to Bright. He says he supports Obama but should John McCain be elected he would also work with and support him as President. And how he tries to dance around and avoid it all together is actually more revealing in my view.
He also said he supports George Bush, as President. Bright suports everyone apparently. How sweet. Wow. He really knows how to take a stand and be his own man I see.
Saw the whole breakfast bit at #27 above. Love truncating the video will be his downfall. The DCCC or Bright have been unable to fight back against Love earlier ads, because they couldn’t explain the deceptive ads in less than a minute. With the Obama Yes ad the DCCC or Bright can respond in a minute or less by simply showing part of Love’s ad, then showing the rest of the story, then Jay’s face on a “WANTED” poster and the words “WANTED for DECEIVING the PUBLIC”, then one a several possible tag lines. Like “I’m Bobby Bright and I promised that I would never lie to you. I will also never deceive you.” or If you she this man (Jay) please stop him and tell him that you are fed up with his lies and deceitful behavior. Dumb move Love campaign.
The video is not favorable to Bright. Most un biased folks can see that. Support Obama? YES! Support McCain? If he is elected President, yes.
There is a big difference in those statements. I doubt Bright wants to point it out.
I just watched that youtube at #27 above again. Watch and listen to how Jay tries to skirt around the question “Do you support President Bush?” I thought his pledge says that he would support the Republican party, but he seems to be running away from that pledge when it comes to Bush. Talk about stammering and studdering.
#62 – The video is not favorable for either candidate because they both made errors in the way they responded to the question. They are both tired and the stress of campaigning is catching up with them. I’m sure more bad responses are to come as Nov 4 approaches. However, Bright or the DCCC have the advantage when it comes to a response to the ad. The Love campaign might want to google Michelle Bachman (R) to see how she blew her campaign in 30 seconds.

The Love campaign and Hubbard have been dying for Bright to endorse Obama. A couple of months ago, Hubbard, on the AL Rep. Party website, had a day countdown until Bright was supposedly going to endorse Obama. Did it happen then, no.
Thirteen days before the election, out of desperation, they had to CUT A VIDEO to make it SEEM as though Bright endorsed Obama.
It’s a political scare tactic to attempt to portray Bright as a liberal democrat to the people of District 2. Bright is a conservative blue dog democrat & has been endorsed by Republican leaders across District 2. I am astonished to see Hubbard and Love acting this way.
Hubbard put his foot in his mouth when claiming that Harri Anne would never be ALLOWED to run as a Republican again. “Allowed”– That is absurd.
Love was given the Subway restaurants by his father. He has passed ONE bill in the legislature. He has no track record of accomplishment OTHER than graduating from Auburn Montgomery after failing out of Auburn University at Auburn.
We are tired of this. Republicans and Democrats alike. Good will prevail. Jay Love will be less of a threat to the good of society if he stays in the state legislature. Preferably not in the legislature either. But a Congress seat is too important to let a weasel take off with such as Love.

I have just seen the last lying ad and am just about fed up with the disgusting Jay Love and crew. He is the most fake individual anyone has seen in the political arena. He will get his butt kicked come Nov 4 due to all his lies and deceitfulness. I hope that Bright pursues legal action against him for his lies. I really don’t care about this election. I feel guilty sometimes because I think I know who the better guy is. I didn’t know either candidate before moving to Montgomery after college.
I really just wanted a job after college without having to go to law school. That is why I started working for Jay Love. I am hoping to make it to Washington on November 4.
But, my conscience eats me up when thinking about this campaign. All I wanted was a job, really. I never thought this election would get so dirty.

I watched the entire video of Bright’s endorsement of Obama. The entire video is as damning as the piece that includes only the endorsement. He says it, then he realizes what he has done and he tries to have it 3 different ways. Bright is counting on an “Obama Surge” and he cannot come out against him. If he did, the other side would make it known to the world.
