Candidates’ Bad, Good, and Better News

Heading into the last few weeks of the campaign, some of our states’ Congressional candidates report better news in the last couple of days than others.

Graph DownBad News: AL-02 Democratic nominee Bobby Bright has only $66k cash on hand with debts over $74k. Going into the last lap, Bright’s car is sputtering and near-empty.

Good News: AL-03 Democratic nominee Josh Segall was named to the Democrats’ Red-to-Blue program this week. This is a real pick-me-up for the campaign that keeps telling doubters it can unseat incumbent Mike Rogers. See the release here (.pdf). Graph Up

Better News: The Republican candidates in AL-02 and AL-03 are happy to report large advantages over their opponents in cash on hand. Mike Rogers in AL-03 reports almost $750k on hand, a better than 7 to 1 advantage over rival Segall. Jay Love in AL-02 reports over $300k cash on hand, more than four times Bright’s $66k (though Love also has $822k in campaign debt).

what a great reason to vote for him then. geez.

  • Anonymous

wow, progressive, that has a lot to do with the conversation. i guarantee you that no one who opposes bobby bright has not sympathized with him over his loss during this time, but you have shown your ass in trying to bring that in to politics. nice job. alot of class.

  • RRabton

And Love continues to lose ground. As a Republican abandoned by his party, I’m not surprised that the neo-conservative, self-righteous, hate-mongering extremists who stole the party from the true Republicans continue the Karl Marx, oops, Karl Rove ambush tactics and further humiliate and destroy the GOP. Please start your own far far far right party and give back the Republican party to those of us who funded and supported it for the last twenty years.

  • RRabton

    Oh, I forgot – McCain/Sessions/Bright.
And, get rid of Hubbard and his boot-stomping, high-stepping, neo-conservative, anti-Republican, anti-American, hate squad. We will take back our party!!

  • 52 – It was in response to 49. thank you sir

Ummmm……RRabton…… maybe you need to look at polling numbers again to see who is losing ground in this race. That would be Bobby Bright. And for good reason. His whole campaign is a fraud. Bought and paid for by the national democrat party but oh wait….he is a good ole’ sharecropper…..awww shucks guys…..vote for me I don’t like them mean old democrats I’m my own man…..but ummmmm…..don’t ask me who I support for President or I may have to dance around the issue…..but look how I dance folks! Vote for meeeeeeeee

  • RRabton

Anon56 – The only fraud in the race is the candidate who won his first Republican race with ASEA money. His name is Julius Kenneth Love, Jr. Now he’s running another mud-slinging campaign with the aid of big gambling money, sleazy campaign tactics, a lot of whining to the media about how badly he’s being treated. What a hypocrit. I’ll vote for a good ole’ sharecropper’s son who’s actually qualified for the job, before I’d vote for a Republican Christian Conservative Sandwich-making poser like Love.

get your boots out folks, RRabton is shoveling his usually bullsh** from Montgomery. Bright’s campaign is a fraud.

  • RRabton

Anon58 – Really, can you be more specific? My shovel is clean, but you might want to check yours. Why is it that your responses are just accusations and whining, but never any facts or intelligent rebuttals? Oh, never mind, you work for the Love camp and that is the only strategy their limited brain trust could come up with. Oh one more thing, McCain/Sessions/Bright on Nov 4.

  • Anonymous

Rabton – you offend mccain and sessions each time you put bobby’s name anywhere in the same sentence. Obama/figures/bright ‘08. Now, that looks a lot better. Anyone hear about that dem in illinois who got the dccc to stop running negative ads? Alltogether now, bobby’s a fraud.

  • Onelife

    >>Oh one more thing, McCain/Sessions/Bright on Nov 4.

WTH?? Why vote for McCain if you are giving Nancy Pelosi another vote to override his vetos. Might as well vote Obama.

  • Anonymous

That’s who bobby said he’d be supporting, as he got pissed and slammed his fist down in a rage, obama!! Obama/figures/bright woo, hoo

  • RRabton

Anon60 – Offend McCain? Come on now, McCain/Sessions/Bright is the only way to vote. Hey, did you hear about the no-backbone Republican running for the AL02 seat that readily accepts Freedom’s Watch negative ads, and RNC negative ads, and ARP negative mail-outs, and still isn’t satisfied so that same candidate puts out his own negative ads. That’s FOUR NEGATIVES for Love. There’s the fraudulaent campaign. Heck, Love won’t even show his face in his own ads, just the obligatory photo and “I approved this ad” statement. What a cowardly way to run a campaign. Jay’s not even man enough to look at the camera when he sells his lies. Shameful!

  • Anonymous

well, with bright’s endorsement of obama, the voters know who will be looking out for them, that would be jay love. he doesn’t need to show his face when his opponent is a tax raising, obama loving, clean campaign pledge breaking, fraud – that’s bobby.

  • RRabton

Anon62 – Right. And Love wants to give tax breaks to wealthy wife-beaters.
I’ll be glad when the rest of my fellow Republicans wise up to the fact that the extreme right Libertarian party has infiltrated our party and is working hard to get Libertarian candidates elected under the Republican banner. If you doubt me, check out a few Libertarian websites and see how many elected Republicans appear at their rallies and events.

  • RRabton

Anon65 I believe it was Love that raised our taxes, right after he repaid the liberal ASEA back with a substanial pay raise for state employees. As a matter of fact, that might be the only bill that he sponsored that actually passed. And now Love wants us to believe that he had nothing to do with raising property taxes or sales taxes. What a FRAUD! At least Bright tried go get the REPUBLICAN/LIBERTARIAN CONTROLLED Montgomery County Commission to not raise sales tax to 10%. But they raised them anyway and now the Repubs try and blame Bright for there on actions. Fraud upon fraud.

  • Anonymous

wow Rabton, you really have zero life. need to get out a little, pretty day. come out of the dark and smell the fresh air. tax breaks for the wealthy, why not – tax breaks for everyone. i love the rich, they pay the most in taxes and gave me a job, thank you rich people! hard to cut taxes for those that don’t pay any…get a life rabton, seriously, you’ll go blind with all those video games and chat rooms. oh, and bobby’s still the fraud, he screwed up the only thing he had going for him, the clean campaing pledge – but he butchered that promise, can’t believe anything else from him ever.

  • RRabton

Anon 67 – Thanks for the concern for my health, but I’m doing quite well. I promise to put away the video games as soon as I need glasses. So,you’re one of those Fair Tax fools aren’t you. The Fair Tax act is one of the most regressive tax plans ever devised. It sounds good when you skim the surface, but it is pure chaos when you start digging. I should have figured you for a Libertarian. That explains a lot about your attempts to get Love elected. Is Jay one of your deep-cover LibertarianRepublicans? That would explain some of his recent visitors. Now I’m beginning to understand why you only rant and never debate. You were concerned that you would reveal your Libertarian position. Oh yeah, McCain/Sessions/Bright!

  • Anonymous

nope, just a big advocate of not punishing folks because they make money. you must believe, like biden, that it is american to pay more in taxes. personally, i think it is more american to contribute to charity, something you and biden don’t know anything about, hell, biden has contributed 1/16 of 1% this year to charity…that’s american. obama/biden/bright = frauds.

  • Anonymous

RRabton stop trying to portray yourself as a Republican. We know you are a big Montgomery Democrat. That whole I’m a Bright Rep. thing has fizzled to nothing so give it up.

  • Anonymous

he’s from ‘tumpka i think, not mtgmy.

  • 02 Voter

    RRabton,

You are 100% correct as I see the 02 race just like you. Love and his entire campaign has demonstrated their low life hoax of a campaign financed by the gambling low life freedom watch billionaire and RNCC. This goes without saying that some people will stoop to the lowest level and say anything in an effort to enhance their own interests.

This is why I’ll proudly cast my Vote for Bright on November 4.

  • Anonymous

Yeah post 72, the DCCC is certainly not running a low life sleazy hoax of a campaign for Bobby Bright are they???? Wow. Wake up.

  • RRabton

Anon69 – I hate paying taxes, I paid about $42,000 in state and federal income taxes last year, plus sales taxes, property taxes, ad valorem taxes, etc……
I feel like I pay my fair share and I’m smart enough to understand that the Fair Tax Act is not the way to go.
I also understand that we have a HUGE federal debt to pay off, and I blame the Republican incumbents, and greedy CEOs for it. That being said, how in the name of common sense do we expedite the pay down of our outrageous debt by lowering taxes? Don’t give me the reduce taxes on the wealthy line, because that dog won’t hunt. It is the wealthy that created this mess and now we’re bailing them out to the tune of $700 billion. Don’t be naive, our taxes are going up. Obama has a plan to raise taxes, and McCain has a plan to raise taxes. The only thing you need to decide is who’s tax plan do you like best.
It’s very presumptive of you to assume that I do not contribute to charites. I do support numerous worthwile local charities, my favorites are my church, the Montgomery Area Food Bank, The Salvation Army, several tri-county animal shelters, and local run/walk cancer charities, to name a few.
After watching General Powell on Meet the Press this morning, I am now a ???????/Sessions/Bright voter and one of those disenfranchised Republicans the General spoke of.

  • RRabton

#72 – I saw in the paper this morning where Congressman Eric Cantor (R), Virginia, was in town to assist in a fundraiser for Love. He’s the same Eric Cantor that got caught up in the Abramoff corruption scandal a few years back. Seems Cantor took about $40,000 in contributions from Abramoff and friends, and then used his influence to help one of Abramoff’s native american tribe clients block a nearby tribe from opening a casino. The gambling crowd continues to do what they can to get Love elected, first Freedom’s Watch, now Cantor. Oh well, as Love says you are who you associate with.

  • Anonymous

RRabton please get a life and stop filling up space with your democrat loving rants while acting like you are a Republican gone sour.

And I find it amusing that Abramoff is mentioned as trying to knock down Cantor. Maybe you should mention all the DEMOCRATS Abramoff loved so dearly.

  • Anonymous

76 – Name ONE Democrat that is connected to Abramoff. The only ones I can come up with are Doolittle, Feeney, Ney, Don Young, Delay, Rohrbacher, Calvert, Cantor, Hall… All Republicans. Also, dont forget the over 200 contacts with the Bush Administration in 2001 alone.
