Alabamian Lilly Ledbetter is featured in an campaign spot for Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. You can download it here in Realmedia format (.rm).
My two cents: If you have not already installed Realplayer, don’t. Use Real Alternative instead. It’s fast, light, and treats your computer right.

I think the weakness in this ad is that it assumes the voter knows the Lilly Ledbetter story. Without the background the point seems a bit pedantic.
Lilly Ledbetter lost a lawsuit,
Lex lata limitations.
Litigation is her legacy,
And Liberal Liability Legislation.

With all eyes on Washington right now, couldn’t help but notice Congressman Spencer Bachus up to his eyeballs in the negotiations.
And couldn’t help but think of how many times I’ve seen someone on here talking about how well respected Terry Everett is. Where was he today?
Terry and Spencer were both elected as Republicans in 1992. But in the current Congressional power rankings, Bachus is #93 and Everett is #336.
Terry is about as revalent to what goes on in Washington as a fan in Bryant-Denny is to the outcome of the game he/she is watching.
Yeah, what would the second district do without that # 336 working to get us taxpayers to joing their crusade to bail us taxpayers out from the mess he and his compadrees put us in to begin with? Lord help us all!
And poor old Mike Rogers doesn’t even have a comment or press release out on the economic crisis. He is simply waiting for the Republican talking points to repeat and being told how to vote on what and when. Damn the guy is useless, number 405 out of 435 and all but two of those below him have less time in Congress than he does. Those of us in the 3rd CD have those of you in the 2nd beaten on the uselessness scale by a wide margin.
Mike Rogers is useless.
Heck even the Anniston FOP endoresed Segall – That’s not exactly a liberal organization

Has anyone noticed that the AP has broken a story that Spencer Bachus has made hundreds of thousands of dollars off of stock transactions in suspicious circumstances? The Birmingham News hasn’t even carried the AP story, much less asked Bachus for a comment. Can anyone imagine the reaction if say, Artur Davis, were reported to have made money off stock deals under the jurisdiction of one of his committees?
Actually, I read the Bachus story in the Birmingham News.
Yeah, it was pretty prominent in the Bham News.
Apparently Post 3 needs a civics lesson. Spencer Bachus is the ranking member of the House Banking Committee. The committee that has jurisdiction on the current “bail out” issue. Likewise, Richard Shelby is the ranking member of the Senate Banking Committee. Terry Everertt nor Mike Rogers are on the committee that is dealing with such. Nor is Jeff Sessions. Thus you don’t see them in negotiations from Committees they do not serve on. Your understanding of how things work is pathetic.
The FOP endorsing a democrat? imagine that – a union endorsing a dem!
# 10. I do know a little about civics. And also know something about math. And from where I come from, 93 carries a lot more influence than 336. Point being, how can two guys be in Congress, from the same party, for the same number of years and one far outranks the other in influence?
So tell me which committee is it that Everett is ranking member?
Re visit your civics. It all depends on seniority in the committee. There are more senior members on armed services for example than those on banking thus bachus moved faster up the ladder in banking as some of the more senior members on the republican side left that committee. not as many senior left armed services.
FOP is probably the most conservative labor union in the country, largely because they represent management as well as the rank and file. In most die hard union country, the largest cops union is the PBA, which is much more liberal.
conservative labor union? whatever
You do realize that your hero Ronald Reagan was a union member and was endorsed by the Teamsters when he ran for president.
I do wish for the days of Reagan for sure….
