AL-02: Bright Ad Pushes Back – UPDATED

Democrat Bobby Bright pushes back against an ad that Freedom’s Watch is running in his AL-02 race with Jay Love.

There is more to be said about this and the race in general (and other things, too!) as time permits at this end.

Update: This post has been updated to show the version of the ad that is now airing on television. I am unclear whether the previous version actually aired on TV. The previous version was on YouTube but has been removed.

No, he is not worried about those type of associations because they seem to be in your head post 49. But let’s look at bright’s associations that are actually for real. Obama, Pelosi and Bright. Not to mention Rangle, Jerry Beasley and every other trial lawyer in Alabama. So if you want to have the argument over associations, then fine.

    news flash post #51:
Bright voted for Huckabee in the primary. He is not tied to Obama other than the party he is running for. The Love campaign is trying their hardest to tie him to Obama, Pelosi and Rangle.

Love’s campaign + Lack of dirt found on Bright= Make lies up. Democrats are expected to accept money from other democrats. Republicans from republicans.

The Love campaign is quite pitiful.

What’s next? a mirror image of the recent Mississippi election where the republicans did their best to try to tie the democratic congressional candidate to Obama’s preacher. AND
What was the result in the Mississippi election? The long holding republican seat was taken by a democrat.

If Love keeps the lies going in his ads AND on his campaign website… the election will most likely result with a mirror image of Mississippi.

Desperate attacks on behalf of Love and the republicans. pitiful.

I am a bit confused about the ad being switched. I definitely saw two versions on tv, one with the I don’t have a vote line and the other with the Christian Conservative line. Now this one takes both of those out and just uses that dog won’t hunt. If anyone knows the real story I would be interested to know.

I know the Love folks will say this is an outrage, but it really doesn’t matter if the public at large doesn’t know about it. Sometimes newspapers pick up on these kinds of things, but I haven’t seen anything.

I find it so amusing that when Bright is asked who he supports to be President of the United States he stumbles around and then says….oh, well, let’s not talk about party, but by the way, I voted for Huckabee in the primary. Pathetic. Oh, I mean “pitiful”

And tying Bright to Pelosi and Rangle? You think? Maybe because they are giving him thousands of dollars. How is that a lie to point out?

    Get real. Reality bites.

Jay Love should come out with an ad against the DCCC ad accusing him of not paying health care to part time workers and say “Those lies were paid for by Nancy Pelosi, Charles Rangle, and Howarad Dean”…then link them to ABORTION, GUN CONTROL, IMMIGRATION POLICY, NO ENERGY etc. I mean they are directly funding Bright.

At least Jay Love had no control over the ad Freedom Watch made.

    Re; 55

You are absolutely correct about Jay Love. For as long as I been knowing him, he hasn’t had any control over anything except lies and deception that he continually disseminates daily.

  • Anonymous

POst 56. Your fiction had grown very old. No matter how many times you say it, it is not true…Yawn…

  • Anonymous

I’m glad Bright finally fought back. You gotta be tough to be in Congress.

  • Tim Banks

To Post 51. Was it not Mr. GOP himself Bob Riley who selected Jerry Beasley’s law firm to represent the state against Exxon as well as against some of the drug companies who were ripping off the state? Be careful when you start throwing names around and start trying to make these loosy goosy connections.

And for your boy Jay Love, I know personally he has met in the past with Milton McGregor. So for those of us who are counting that is now at least 3 gaming owners Mr. Love has asked for money from. I am willing to “bet” Love has taken money from 2 of the 3. Love keeps us his lies and I just might go out on a limb and go public with the meetings I am personally aware of. It is one thing to be gray about the truth Jay Love it is quite another as a deacon of the Baptist Church I mind you to outright lie.

Please do go public Mr. Banks. You are full of hot air concerning Jay Love. Maybe if we can harnass that hot air, we can solve some of our energy problems, huh?

“Love’s Message A Turn Off for Some”

    by Bob Gambacurta
    The Montgomery Independent

“…Love would be well advised to concentrate on real issues that affect people’s lives and steer clear of trying to brand his opponent as something he is not. Bright is much better known to voters in this area than Smith was. He’s hardly a wild-eyed liberal. Bright is a fiscal conservative who is pro-gun rights, pro-life and in favor of clamping down on illegal immigration.
It will be hard for Love, who voted for the biggest tax increase in Alabama history, to characterize Bright as a tax and spend liberal. All Democrats don’t march in lockstep to the beat of Nancy Pelosi’s drum. Conservative Blue Dog Democrats wield considerable influence in Congress and will wield even more as the Democratic majority grows in both houses. If Bright is elected he will be one of them.
The number one priority for our next congressman should be protecting the jobs and missions at Maxwell-Gunter AFB and Fort Rucker. Bright has already fought and won BRAC battles for Maxwell. As a member of the majority party, he’ll get better committee assignments than a minority party member. Ask yourself what that could mean for the future of Maxwell and Fort Rucker?
Should Love attempt to out-Christian Bright, he’ll also have a tough time. Bright and Love are both members of Montgomery’s First Baptist Church. Both are deacons and it was Bright who voted for Love to join him on the board of deacons.
Nevertheless, Love has a decided advantage going into the fall campaign. The second District is about as Republican as they come and has been since 1964. However, his message could hurt him and depending on the tack he takes, Love could be his own worst enemy..”

Just saw this in the Montgomery Advertiser:

Love’s Ad Paints With Broad Brush

    Dear Jay Love,

As a moderate liberal Democrat, I find your television ad featuring Rep. Terry Everett to be quite off-putting. This is the exact sort of fear politics that needs to be stopped, in particular the line claiming that liberal Democrats hate your conservative values.

I’m a God-fearing man, I attend church regularly here in Montgomery and have a career within the church at large. I’m married to a wonderful lady; we hope to have children one day to whom we’ll also teach the Bible and solid morals.

The painting with a broad swath in regards to liberal Democrats is demeaning, untrue and, quite simply, atrocious. Many of the same “conservative values” you and your campaign uphold are held by my family as well.

Do yourself a favor, sir, and come up from the low pedestal of negative politics. Talk about the issues in a firm, grounded nature rather than attack your opponent because he holds different beliefs from you. Quit your fear-mongering and religious idolatry and become a more sensible man with sensible politics.

For voters like me, who never vote a straight ticket (I’ve voted for Bob Riley both terms), your pandering and vitriol serve as nothing but a political turnoff.
    Luke Lucas

There are so many things wrong with post 61 – geez – let me count the ways. Bright has focused on issues? Blue Dogs weild power? Bright has a better shot at committee assignments due to dem power? What is this guy smoking? Bright has said zero in his ads – they are pure fluff. Blue Dogs? Pelosi could care less and it has been proven they vote the party line anyway – that’s why she doesn’t care. And just FYI – Republicans control which Republicans are placed on committees and dems control what dems. The “majority” party does not give bright any better chance of an assignment than the Republicans give Jay. If someone wants to write such a biased article – at least get some facts straight to make it believable.

  • Anonymous

    great article on post #61.

  • Anonymous

63… you posted the same nonsense elsewhere. Minority members get NOTHING through congress. NOTHING. Bright will be in the majority from a seat that dems want to protect, so they will make certain he has accomplishments to campaign on in two years.

I know this is all inside baseball that real people do not know or care about, but you are either failing to understand how congress works, or you are purposefully posting false information. If it’s the first, go to DC for a week. It is nice there in the Fall. If it’s the second, go back to the empty phrases like “Obama loving.” If you are going to waste words, at least those are funny.

  • Anonymous

Minority members get nothing? Post your nonsense elsewhere. Seniority trumps minority/majority status in many ways. Stop trying to fool everyone that having a dem in this seat will be such a huge benefit. That is an outright lie. Both Love and Bright will be on equal footing as freshmen.

  • Anonymous

Bright will get nothing accomplished just like the rest of the Dems. It is only a matter of time before Republicans take control again. Bright would be good if you are looking for someone who is too lazy to go to work for their constituents. Bright has no work ethic, will not stand up for your values as he won’t even stand up for himself, and has little to no experience when dealing with financial matters or legislation. Bright is lucky to have a council that gets things done.

Bright will not get my vote becauase I do not trust him. He is a Liar when it comes to his past, and certainly fails to keep his word on a bogus pledge. He is a weak leader, with weak morals, and a weak fiscal plan.

Just read the Dothan Eagle articles last week where Bright and Love answered questions regarding the Bailout. Love knew what he was talking about…Bright was all “aww shucks and gee whiz.”

Blah, blah, blah… Again, no facts. No specific points.

Here is a Washington Post story on Freedom’s Watch. The Christian Coalition just put out a release about the gambling money,

Post 68 and 69 – Love has not control over a 527 organization like freedom’s watch. zero. and yes, that works both ways. bright likewise would have no control over a 527 that ran an ad against Love. Get the facts straight.

  • Anonymous

I agree. Love has no control over Freedom’s Watch. But you have to admit that the fact that a casino billionaire is behind that 527 is not a good thing for JL.

  • anonymous

    75. Ronnie Gilley, aka Gunney Highway, aka In the Know, aka John Townshend is hunting arrowheads on County Crossing land (that he doesn’t own.) Chief Shallow Pockets probably did have to lay off employees. Rumor is cash is short.

  • bluegrass

#76…. I agree with you 100%.Bright is a good upstanding man and as for as the taxes go,there’s a Liberterian on this forum that I know that comes up with alot of these posts.Sooo that should say something to you.

  • Bright Repub

I am a Republican who is supporting Bobby Bright because I think quality character is more important than the label of Democrat or Republican. Jay Love takes gambling money but claims “Christian Values.” Bright has governed a VERY difficult city, Montgomery, admirably. I’m a small business owner and I provide health insurance to my employees. Why can’t Love do that? Because he’s a millionaire who thinks the rules of society don’t apply to him. Let’s send Bright to Washington and let Love stay in Montgomery where he can do a LOT less harm.
