Wayne Parker on the Air in AL-05 – UPDATED

Republican Wayne Parker has a new ad on the air (see it here in .wmv format) going after his Democratic opponent Parker Griffith in the race for the AL-05 Congressional seat.

You first saw here at the Parlor (or at least you could have) that tomorrow President Bush is expected in Huntsville for a fundraiser on behalf of the campaigns for Parker and AL-02 candidate Jay Love. The event is in a private home.

A GOP insider tells the Parlor that the state GOP is already pulling resources out of the AL-05 race, saying that the state GOP couldn’t play in both AL-02 and AL-05, so on a judgment call the resources went where they could do the greater good, i.e., AL-02.

Update: State GOP Communications Director Philip Bryan has contacted the Parlor intent on “correcting a misperception” that the state party is not involved in AL-05. He says that the state GOP is involved in AL-05 with field representatives, resources, knocking on doors, get-out-the-vote effort, and so forth. Thank you, Philip.

Hands-down that is among the worst political ads I have ever seen. Pathetic.

  • Anonymous

I don’t care for that ad, personally. In terms of AL GOP supporting Love in district 2 more heavily, I can understand why. Love is a better candidate.

Like it or not this ad only scratches the surface. Expect to see more on why Hunstville Hospital wanted to boot former physician Griffith. According to the hospital records Griffith’s last day on staff was in late 1985.

  • Anonymous

The more important issue is why Griffith is using Jackson County Courthouse as a campaign office?

Danny, your “GOP Insider” is wrong on this, no resources are being pulled from CD5 by the ALGOP.

To point out the obvious – what does an alleged dispute between a doctor and a hospital 23 years ago have to do with being a congressman?

Pathetic. Wayne Parker should be very ashamed.

I don’t think there is any doubt that once again Mike Hubbard is playing favorites, and Jay Love is his favorite. Love is on the Hubbard/Twinkle/Mary Windom/Beth Kellum “insiders’ team that gets all the help from the party. Wayne Parker is on the outside looking in.

#7, you are wrong but this is the type of information that bottom feeders like you enjoy because it helps you promote your agenda against mike. the ALGOP has not pulled out of cd5, unfortunately someone has been misinformed.

Huntsville Hospital “tried” to boot Dr. Griffith because his freestanding cancer treatment center was in competition with their hospital. It was an economical issue, not an ethical issue. He continued to practice medicine for several years longer in various hospitals around Huntsville and STILL holds a medical license.

Huntsville Hospital is non-profit and doesn’t make it a practice to revoke privileges over “economical issues”. Just ask Griffith’s former partner, he lost his medical license.

This ad by Wayne Parker is absurd! As a former employee of the premiere medical institution in the country, I can assure you that doctor’s have their privileges revoked for a number of reasons, many having nothing to do with their qualifications. Furthermore, Senator Griffith does not contend that he is a practicing physician. He maintains that he is retired, but remains actively interested in health policy. I think that is wonderful in a time when insurance costs are through the roof and the GOP is trying to limit advances in stem cell research. Go Senator Griffith!

This post is from Parker Griffith’s Facebook Page:

This is an example of politics at its worst. It is a total distortion of the facts and the sign of an increasingly desperate campaign by our opponent. Wayne Parker has no record of achievement and instead of talking about himself or his agenda he chooses to attack Parker Griffith. This type of dirty politics is why we have a collapsing economy and out of control oil prices instead of people in Congress working for real solutions.

The record is clear on this issue and Parker Griffith is proud of his service to this community as its first cancer specialist. When he came to Huntsville he practiced at Huntsville Hospital. After several years he left Huntsville Hospital and began the Huntsville Cancer Treatment Center – which was the first comprehensive cancer treatment center in Alabama. At that time Huntsville Hospital viewed him as a competitor so chose to use several other hospitals in the area for his patients. He was on staff at Humana Hospital, Crestwood Hospital, Parkway in Decatur, Athens Limestone Hospital and others – and retrained full privileges at these hospitals until his retirement in 1993.

Parker Griffith has spent his life caring for the people of this area and keeps his medical license to this day. Any differences with Huntsville Hospital are behind him and he has worked with them on several projects – including implementing the Statewide Trauma Systems Bill. He is proud of his service to this community as a physician and proud to have the support of many health care organizations such as the American Medical Association, US Oncology and the Federation of American Hospitals – as well as from Doctors and medical professionals from across north Alabama – including David Spillers – the current CEO of Huntsville Hospital.

#4 here is the video of State Sen. Griffith using the Jackson County Courthouse to campaign for US Congress.

  • #13 – You wasted my time with that video. First of all anybody could have stuck those cards there. And how do we even know that it was a courthouse much less the Jackson County Courthouse.

Does anyone realize that Love is trying to tie Bright to Pelosi at the same time that Bush is doing fundraisers for him? I know, I know Bush still has some popularity in AL and “liberals” don’t. However, Love is getting support from a person the Republican Party’s Presidential nominee is running as far away from as possible. It seems that logically, according to Love’s conventional wisdom, that financial support from someone ties them to that persons policies. As such, few financial supporters have longer proven policy records of bad judgement and inequity than Bush. Love should look no farther than his own campaign to see that financial support does not equal similar policies. Or does it?

    Re; Post # 2

You must be smoking some good crack if you think Love is the best candidate for 02! He is excellent at one thing for certain and that being a good liar. This is and has been his best trait since day one!

POst 15 and 16 – this is a blog for the race between parker and griffith. go spew your crap somewhere else.

  • Trvld

Post 17, this blog is about Alabama politics. But, if it makes you feel better, The same questions could be asked of Wayne Parker. If he’s relying on Bush for a portion of his funds, does that mean that he would continue his failed policies. Does the poster believe that any facts that goes against his party is crap? Or does the poster believe Bush has not failed in office? If it’s the latter, than your post would be more defensible. Your thinking and understanding of leadership and politics would be deeply flawed, but you post would make more sense. That’s the problem with politics, especially in this state. That’s the perfect example of the “Iron Bowl” mentality of politics. It’s not about doing away with hypocrisy or electing better leadership, it’s about winning at all costs. I don’t blame you, I struggle with it from time to time myself.

Good post 18, and your Post 16 has some merit for both parker and love but also for bright who is getting the vast majority of his funding from folks in the democratic party that he claims to totally disagree with (pelosi, rangle, howard dean). So the thought you bring up usually applies to both sides and all candidates. Post 16 , however, is “spewing crap” as noted.

  • Trvld

Post 19, Thanks for agreeing with my point. Which, is that Love brought up the charge of funding=policies. So my question is whether he claims Bush’s policies? I agree with your crap comment for post 16.
