Congratulations to U.S. Rep. Artur Davis (D) who is entering into a state of matrimony this coming January. The bride-to-be, Tara Johnson of Montgomery, “coordinates community outreach for the Alabama Forestry Commission and previously was the state coordinator for the Alabama Network of Children’s Advocacy Centers.”

Congratulations to Mr. Davis, but he needs to get ready for the “Community Organizer” comments from the other side of the aisle.
guess we have to ask the question, true love? or political move?
guess we have to ask the question…
No, we don’t.
I thought Artur Davis was already married……to the Business Council of Alabama.
What’s the over/under on the length of the marriage? Or at least how far past the 2010 election?
Let me get this right-the Jay Loves of the world get married at the beginning of their political careers and tout their families in every commercial, and no one questions them.
Harold Ford and Artur Davis are suspect if they’re single, when they get married, its supposed to be political.
Can we say rightwing hypocrisy?
As the Churchlady would say, “How conveeeeeeeeeeeeeeenient!”
For his sake, I hope she’s been proud of her country before 2010 rolls around.
As far as getting married goes, Davis was damned if he did and damned if he didn’t. I’m not sure if I am for him in 2010 or not, but everybody I know who does know him says he’s a pretty decent guy, so I hope he gets a fair shake.
Just a political move that gets him nothing in return. I guess that this just proves that Rep. Davis will ruin the DEMOCRATIC Party’s chance at the Governor’s seat in 2010. Darn shame that he will leave the 7th district.
I’m not a diehard Davis fan, but the smears on some of these posts are outrageous. I hope he runs for gov in 2010, and I wouldn’t be shocked if he won.
The Folsom diehards who are slamming Davis should be worried–he beats Folsom in the polls and will kill him on the stump.
Nobody should have had any comments on this issue other than congrats Congressman Davis. Thank you #6
I’ve told a few folks this about Davis: he gets underestimated a lot and keeps winning. Before he beat Hilliard, the rap was that he didn’t have a shot. When he knocked off Hilliard, the betting line was that he was a one shot wonder. Last summer, taking Siegelman’s side was supposed to kill him outside the 7th District.
His race is going to cost him some votes, but can he get the 37-38 percent of the white vote he needs to win? I don’t rule it out.
Ditto to #6 and #12, Some of you guys need to grow some class.
My take on Davis: best political talent on the statewide level, only Alabama politician with any shot at a national political career.
Put some money on this tip: Folsom doesn’t run, the Democratic race ends up being Davis v. Sparks.
I’m not a diehard Folsom fan. I’m a diehard winner fan. SPARKS or FOLSOM could win the general election and get a lot more accomplished. Come on folks it is not about making history or witting a good biography it is about having a strong candidate with a lot of popular support. SPARKS may have the upper since he nearly won 60% of the statewide vote last election winning 54 counties. I believe it will be either a Davis vs. SPARKS battle or a Davis vs. FOLSOM. If FOLSOM and SPARKS ran against each with Davis in the race it would be a for sure win for Davis. Davis’ stanch pro-Obama relationship will hurt him in 2010 whether Obama loses, is a popular President, or is a horrible President. This is Alabama after all and the people of this great state do not tend to like national liberals. Davis has emerged to be popular on the national scene and this will hinder him in Alabama.
He has some work to do if he wants this “Yellow Dog” to vote for him, if he runs and gets the nomination. I would just fill better if I had a Democratic candidate that I knew could WIN.
Run SPARKS, Run! or Run FOLSOM, Run! but please not Davis. I would hate to have to change my post name in 2010.
Hey, I’m happy for him- whenever you get married during your political career or not, it’s a great thing regardless. I disagree with everything Davis says, basically, but it’s classless to call marriage a political move. I won’t forget how some of those socialists out there created a huge buzz over Gov. Charlie Crist’s marriage, claiming he was doing it to prove he wasn’t gay. the left is always using smears to defeat conservatives, because they certainly can’t win on policy.
TJ, The left is always creating smears.
Have you never heard of Karl Rove! You are a complete idiot!
TJ – “they..can’t win on policy,” you mean the people of Alabama don’t want the higher taxes, gay marriage, strict gun control, and abortion on demand that are the staple of the Democrat platform? shocking…
If Davis wins, Alabama will a terrible econmic downturn and larger government spending. He is a terrible choice. Just because you have a silver toungue it doesn’t make you a good leader.
#11- Name a poll that has Davis beating Folsom. Running even, maybe. Beating him? And running worse than Folsom against the Republicans, as well. That goes for all the polls that have been done that anyone has seen or been shown.
#22- Get your spin right. The latest polling I’ve heard about has Folsom running only 3-4 points better that Davis vis-a-vis Republicans, which is close to the margin of error. Given that Folsom’s name rec is a solid 25 points higher than Davis’, there should be some gap. Also, Folsom’s fav/unfav numbers with white voters are actually very close to Davis’. Bottom line- Folsom’s numbers are weaker than they should be, and that’s before the Raymond James/Jefferson County bond connections get scrubbed.
#23-
I am not spinning, just asking. And you still haven’t listed a poll that shows Davis beating Folsom. You admit he runs weaker against Republicans. You admit he has weaker name ID. The you take a “push poll” tactic and attack Folsom when I have said nothing negative against Davis and nothing postive for Folsom, just asked questions. If you have watched Alabama campaigns as long as I have, Folsom has been attacked before. Has Davis?
Bob Wilson Jr. got married back in his race for Congress in 1996. No one believed that one either.
was she a “community organizer too?” This qualifies for Presidential experience if so.
Congratulations Congressman Davis!
I wonder if he truly loves this girl. I saw him out this summer with an attractive woman at a DC restaurant – it must have been late July. I have seen him out with this person a few times – very striking and refined.
This whole engagement appears to be a political decision – marry someone from Alabama just in time to announce his run for governor. We need someone in Alabama who truly cares, not someone who is trying to script his life just to get elected.
Sarah Palin’s personal life… oops, I mean Artur Davis’ personal life… should be left alone. Congratulations Bristol… I mean Tara.
I also have seen him in DC several times over the past year dining with the same stunning and elegant beauty. She is always cordial.I agree that it is convenient choice for Davis to announce marrying an Alabama woman on the eve of running for AL office. Convenient–but hardly uncommon. He would have a chance as a single man…
Congrats to the two. It is a Blessed event to get married. Davis is very decent I have known him 2 years and this is by far a political move. The man has always wanted to get married, he just was trying to be very selective. Nothing wrong with that.
Seriously? Davis has no chance for Gov of AL–Folsom all the way. He may be a decent guy but as the last weeks have shown people want experience. The boring lifestyle and weak presence won’t cut it. Marriage? When has he even been pictured or seriously mentioned a woman. Definitely a polical move at 41–42 years old. Selective for 20 years…smart move in 2008–a choice where the Govenor’s mansion is located.Engaged to marry 2009 just in time to announce his run for 2010.
Davis hasn’t unveiled any plans for Alabama. He brushed me off for meeting my class of kids in Montgomery. Alabama is the 2nd fattest state in the union. He doesn’t care, hasn’t ever exercised, and seemingly unhealthy IF YOU LOOK CLOSELY. Davis brushed off the notion of fitness & health being a priority. When has he visited Montgomery to date and find a mate?
I agree with Paine.A poll will never show Davis beating Folsom. No chance for Artur Davis against Republicans. Weak record no experience bad for Alabama. He will have to do more than get engaged to a ‘community organizer’ right in Montgomery to win. He knows timing 2010 is everything.Just married 2009–WooHoo! He’s calculated everything carefully, but will miss with a serious Gov. bid in 2010. Congrats.
Krista in 35, aka Cissy in 34, aka Heather K in 33, aka Ciccone in 31,
I ask that you choose one name to use and stick with it in the comment thread.
Thank you very much.
Danny
Didn’t JFK marry at 40 ? No one said that was a political move?
No comments at this time.
Thanks!
