Alabama Delegates ‘Loved’ Address

I have served in the legislature with Rep. Jay Love for the last 6 years. While I have heard him go to the microphone on many occasions to debate an issue I don’t believe I have ever heard him give a speech before. I know he has given many of them but since I don’t live in his area I have never had a need to go to hear him speak. While Jay was originally scheduled to speak to the entire convention that is now up in the air because of the hurricane related changes for this week. Jay did address the Alabama delegation this morning at breakfast and clearly excited the entire group with his message. Jay hit on all of the right themes for Republicans running in Alabama. He delivered what I consider a core message for southern congressional Republican candidates this year- you cannot run on conservative Republican issues, under a Democrat label and claim you don’t support the national Democrat Party. He presented an image of someone well informed about the issues at stake in this election. He also wrapped the Republican message into a hometown message of making sure Alabama is served by those who represent their values the most in both domestic and foreign policy. I don’t know Jay’s opponent Bobby Bright or much about their race but I do know Jay Love and I can say without a doubt his speech was what all the delegates were hoping to hear from our newest congressional candidate.

Breaking: Jay Love Not Ashamed of His Party’s Principles

  • Reactionary

I like the message: “you cannot run… under a Democrat label and claim you don’t support the national Democrat Party”, but Love (and others) should keep in mind that Pelosi and Rangel are not on the ballot – Bright is…

    Just my opinion…

please. this kind of partisan rhetoric should not even be allowed on this sight.

  • Anonymous in #4,

I’m glad to have the perspectives of participants in both conventions. We had a delegate contributing to the blog from the Democratic convention last week, and I appreciate Rep. Ward blogging from the Republican convention this week.

I agree that it’s not our usual fare, but I hope many of our readers, even of different partisan stripes, will find the participants’ perspectives interesting and/or informative, or at least appreciate that there are those who do.

The way I see It,Mayor Bright has more sence about how to be a Congressman than Jay Love has ever had.I have researched him from the start.Just go to the Montgomery web site and you can read all about him. Also he has a web site.I certainly would like for everyone to read his record. He’s a smart and busy man.

  • Anonymous

smart and busy? yep – high crime – high sales tax and terrible public schools. he is busy for sure! nice try piggy.

i think you meant sense PIGGY..either way Bright has very little

Pelosi and Rangle are not on the ballot???? Bright is? Yes, Bright is and so is Obama and so is Pelosi as the current speaker running for re election and so is ethically challenged Rangle. And they give buckets of money to Bobby Bright. They also will be his leaders in Congress. Don’t be fooled – Bright and all the others are on the ballot and on the democratic ticket together. Either you agree with the dems and what they are trying to do in Congress – and you vote for Bright to help further that – or you don’t. He is part of the dem ticket…period.

  • bhmhomeboy

So what is wrong with Obama, Pelosi and Rangle? Who will be Love’s “leaders” in congress if he is elected?
What exactly are the Dems trying to do in Congress that you don’t agree with? What’s wrong with being part of the dem ticket…period?

  • The Oracle

The sad fact here is that these ultra hardcore Republicans cannot understand a party that allows its members to vote as their consciences see fit.
That is why they ram through things like CAFTA, Medicare Part D, and pork projects like The Bridge to Nowhere.

What most don’t realize that it is the Republicans’ betrayal of their principles, and sheer and utter incompetence when it comes to things like Hurricane Katrina Response that leave the door open for competent, non idealogical Democrats like Mayor Bright.

So, don’t blame Bright, don’t blame Nancy Pelosi, the Bell Tolls for thee, Republicans.

  • Thomas Jefferson

Good existential question, bhmhomeboy. Here is what is wrong with the Democrat party.
    1. Marxist economics- from each according to his ability, to each according to his need. Nothing free, liberal, or democratic about that in the classical senses of the words.
    2. No gun rights- against all sane interpretations of what the founders set down in the Constitution, the inherent right for one to protect oneself. No, the jobs of the police are not legally to take a bullet for you.
    3. Leftist foreign policy- cut down the military, destoroy nukes, and appeasement, yes I said it, appeasement of radical dictators whose mission is to assail and destroy all things Western, most importantly to destroy America. This includes the Shiite governing council of Ayatollah Khameni in Iran, Hugo Chavez in Venezuala, a belligerent autocrat in PM Vladimir Putin in Russia, and the worldwide Islamofascist terror networks.
Additionally, anti-Semitism. Vehement hatred for the existence of a Zionist free state in the Middle East.
    4. Cracking down on free speech- the “fairness doctrine” the ironically named obstruction to freedom of expression and press outlined in the 1st amendment
    5. Cracking down on sovreignty- the Democrats desire to have America become beholden to a monstrous anti-Semitic and anti-Western United Nations, to have America defer to the entity in most areas of national policy.

All around, reminiscent of Lenin and Trotsky’s vision for Russia c. 1917. That is the Democrat platform.
    viva la revolucion, comrades.

  • Thomas Jefferson

Ted Stevens and Don Young of Alaska are petulant RINOs. And the record shows that Democrats are still responsible for most of the pork flying out of Washington. There’s nothing conservative about Medicare, the Bridge to Nowhere, or pork in general.
Those subisdies and handouts are forms of socialism people like Nancy Pelosi and Charlie Rangle want to increase, not conservatives. Taking money from socialists makes you a socialist sympathiser- ergo Bobby Bright is one.

  • GOP a crumbling party

Well informed! This guy is a joke. At Troy University a college republican asked him what he thought about water boarding. He didn’t even no what water boarding was. He is out of touch and the whole painting a conservative Dem as a liberal has not worked thus far and will not work this election. Clearly you bias and neo-ideological mind are out of touch with the concerns of real Alabamians.

Last time I checked Richard Shelby is a Republican. Is he not the King of Pork!

  • GOP a crumbling party

I want to see a video because I cannot even imagine Jay Love giving a we delivered speech. Maybe he took some lessons but it will take proof to make me a believer.

Is Mike Hubbard changing your and Jay’s diaper this week!

    Neo-Cons unite.

shelby was a dem that converted for political reasons. trial lawyers LOVE HIM.

  • Thomas Jefferson

yes indeed, Shelby is no conservative. and #15, since when is bias and “neo-idealism” bad? for that matter, what’s wrong with conservatism. and what other than your petty responses can you provide to show me that Bobby Bright is an independent? unless the Democrat party platform makes a transformation, and unless Bright runs as an independent and drops the (D) in front of his name, you can’t factually prove me otherwise.

It surprises me to see that Cam Ward attempts to promote Love when he readily admits in his commentary that Love has never made a speech in the statehouse. What???
Where does sheer logic come into play here?

Although I’d probably be surprised to. Yep, sounds like he may now be over qualified by way of his making his first speech in MN, if that is all thats required with an R in front of your name.

  • Common Sense

“I believe that John Rogers could give a better speech than Jay Love.”

“Love has never made a speech in the statehouse. What???”

I think it has now been confirmed that Democrats only criteria for public officials is good speech giving. This is disturbing.

Oh, and Rep. Ward, you are a gentleman and a statesman. Please do not lower yourself to meet your detractors.

  • Reactionary

    Say What??? – #18 – despicable…

  • Straight Arrow

I agree that Mr. Ward is a statesman. I hope he continues to be his own man and stand up for the real issues such as protecting our childern and adults who can not take up for themselves and who cannot afford the high paid lobbysits in Montgomery.

  • log

AS they say pickthe man not the party!!And ask yourself ,Are you better off today than you were 8 years ago? I thought this was about change,WE need the Dems to staighten things out.Not just the party but some of the people running on the Dems tickit. And viceverus.

A dem to straighten things out? Dems have been in charge of Congress the last couple of years and what have they done? NOTHING. They can’t even pass bills to fund the government.
