“I’m a Bright Republican.”
Smart campaign effort to show crossover support for the Democratic nominee in AL-02? Or tactic to confuse some over Bright’s party identification?
See the Associated Press story here. Democrat Bobby Bright faces Republican Jay Love in the November election for the open seat.

Only someone that has there back to the wall would be grasping at straws to make a big deal about some signs. The way this race is going we are going to find out if Bright will be a good congressman or not.
Re; 51
I can’t for the life of me grasp why you just keep posting the same nonsense post. Bright has been sharing his intentions with everyone he meets that he will cross party lines to vote for his beliefs and for the best interest of the 02 district. WHAT PART of that message do you not understand? You need to get with the program because you know your post just doesn’t hold water.
post 53 – you are the one that does not understand. bright is saying that to get elected. he will not follow through.
#54….I have already had the same debate in my head that #53 is seems to have had and that you are still having. You might not like everything Bright has done or his platform, but one thing he has never done is been dishonest. That man will shoot off the hip and tell you what he thinks with out looking at the polls. If he says he is going ccoss lines to vote for the betterment of the district then from his past leadership you have no proof to think he will do any different.
Plus someone claiming to vote for the district is still a lot better than someone saying they will vote for the party GOP or DEM, even if that person is not Bright.
Did Bright endorse Huckabee?
He says he did. i would like to see if he contributed though
Jay Love is honest too..that argument is weak. Just because someone says you a liar doesn’t make it so. JAY LOVE is a man of integrity, honor, and family values.
Danny, I could care less about this debacle which amounts to a paid staffer free for all- but comment 49 is over the line.
The GOP should take the time to educate the little children/volunteers blogging on here about the basic principles and concepts behind slander, libel and defamation law in our country.
The records from this blog are not beyond the reach of a subpoena.
post 49 was a joke – it says it is not true. it is about like some of bright’s signs – you have to look very carefully because at a fast glance, they are mis leading.
The comments section here used to be for serious discussion, not trolls. What happened?
Maybe because its a Presidential election year? Fallout from the 4chan war? Loss of usenet access? An overpowering desire for lulz?
#58 – Jay Love HONEST?????? And a man of “integrity”????????????????????????????
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Re; 64
You sound like a basketcase blooming idiot! On second note, it would not be worth debating you anyway, since you obviously don’t have a clue what kind of true values that Bright represents. Vote Bright for 02 in 08.
Keep running from the facts. Bright is taking money from people that support these issues. Bobby Bright sold his soul to the devil and now wants to play both sides. He talks out of one side of his mouth supporting Democrats while spewing Republican ideals out of the other. Voters have figured this out and will elect Jay Love. Did anyone miss Terry Everett blasting Bright this week?

Anonymous in 59,
I tend to agree with comment #60 that comment #49 was a joke. And it did say that the comment was not true.
But given that it may have crossed a line, I’ll remove it.
FWIW, I do appreciate when readers bring inappropriate comments to my attention. Some days I am less able to be attentive than others.
This comment has been removed.
Danny, I disagree with pulling the statement. It is a commentary to bring to Bright supporters and voters in general how devious these tactics really are. When you are driving past a Bright sign at 40-50mph you never see the “I’m a”, just as when you saw the bolded IS you might not have noticed the subtle n’t. Obviously it is your right to pull it, but in that case you should pull about half the comments on this board and others that subtly attack Jay Love. At least be fair and try not to show political bias.
To be fair, Union Boss Mac MacArthur of the State Employees Union probably has a sign in his yard saying “I’m a Jay Love Democrat!”
Ahh, Anzalone et al really pulled a doozie this time. Bet Bobby will start telling people in some cases he wants to drill, and to others he wants us to keep our damn tires inflated. What arrogance! Misleading disaffected Republicans who don’t care about the issues but just hate Jay Love and would throw the future of America’s energy independence and economic well-being to the wind to spite Jay. Are people going crazy?! sorry to any die hard Harri Ann or Ronnie Gilley supporters, but if you care really about the issues and not just supposed personality or character idiosyncracies of the chosen conservative candidate, you would do good to vote for Jay. No candidate in any election is perfect, be he John McCain or even Jay. But he is a proven conservative and will carry out those principles as best he can in Washington, certainly better than Bright. Any republican is always better than a Democrat, because the platform of the current Democrat party is to raise taxes, say no to drilling, nukes, etc., bow to the neo-Marxist “environmentalists” spend more, socialize medecine, and stomp on liberty. don’t be fooled, anyone with a (D) in front of their name is either part of a dying, sidelined, irrelevent non-entity in a dead part of the democrat paty that thirty years ago campaigned for the new south and state’s rights, or is a socialist. Bright is a Democrat. Democrat. Pelosi, Rangel, Maxine Waters, Dick Durbin, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer, Chuck Schumer, Barack Obama, the Clintons, Barney Frank, Steny Hoyer. They are socialist, neo-Bolshevik radical revolutionaries that hate America and hate capitalism, disaffected ex-hippies who have forgotten the true liberal spirit of everything freedom loving and liberty supporting in the 1960′s. AND THEY CONTROL THE DEMOCRAT PARTY you idiots. Don’t vote for Bright- a vote for a democrat is a vote against economic and political freedom.
I don’t really believe that was Thomas Jefferson. He would never advocate a vote for the Republic Party.
Most founding fathers would be considered republicans by today’s standards.
Indeed- Hamilton, founder of the modern American capitalist system, Jefferson, the ever staunch advocate for liberty, Madison, supporter of the Bill of Rights (along with Patrick Henry). the republican party despite a few wimpy pork barrel spending, proverbial bad apples is still the party of liberty and fiscal conservatism, fusing the ideals of the Whigs, Jacksonian democrats, and the old free-soilers, along with certain aspects of the liberty advocating state’s rights southern democrats.
Yeah – we should vote for a proven dishonest Republican who has repeatedly lied about his record for political gain over anyone with a “D” next to their name, regardless.
That sounds more like communist Russia than anything the Founding Fathers envisioned, actually . . . .
“Stand with the man who stands for right, and part with him when he goes wrong.” – Abraham Lincoln.
I don’t see “vote against all Democrats regardless, even when the GOP nominee is blatantly dishonest” in Lincoln’s quotes . . . .I think Nixon might have said that, though . . .
Enterprise in 68,
I am glad for us to have candid discussions about campaigns, strategies, tactics, etc… including about this sign. (And commenters here have an abundance of candor.) If you believe that the sign is misleading and that turnabout is fair play, that’s fine, but it is not the blog’s responsibility to be a campaign tool for someone to even a score.
Plus, as has already been pointed out, anyone misled by the sign as to Bright’s party affiliation would be set straight by the ballot. A misleading (or misunderstood) comment here would have no such built-in opportunity to be corrected.
Plus, the lack of taste in the comment crossed a line for me. If it didn’t for you, so be it.
For the record, if you see other comments that cross a line, I am glad to have them called to my attention.
Thanks,
Danny
Enterprise……..SLAAAAAP!!!!!!……….That was the sound of your face
ok Danny,
Let’s start by getting rid of all of the posts that call Jay Love a liar or take a poke at Troy King. These comments are offensive and are without a solid foundation..pure mean spirited speculation. Anyone reading them might take them at face value without remedy for a correction.
Two lines or less from the post was someone stating that it was meant to be commentary, as was it written in the post that the information was not true.
If you really stand by your commitment to make this blog a discussion board, and not a campaign tool you will take down the following posts that have no merit:
33,63,65,66,70, 78.
Re #77, fwiw, I intended no putdown of Enterprise’s comment. I have always been willing to hear readers’ concerns regarding comments or other matters.
Enterprise in 78,
I am glad to do what I can to raise the level of discussion. On the other hand, if I am going to err, I prefer to err on the side of leaving a comment that should be removed rather than removing a comment that should stay. It’s not a precise science.
Clearly commenters use the board as a campaign tool. But there is no obligation for the blog to serve that purpose that trumps the bounds of taste that I will tolerate. This is not a partisan issue. The other comments that you liken to the one removed cut both ways politically, though none of them to my thinking are as offensive as the one removed.
Again, I am all for raising the level of discussion, and if you would like to help us think about how to make that happen, I’m all for it. I do believe that community standards are maintained particularly well by members of the actual community who encourage newcomers to rise to expectations.
FWIW, if I took down everything that had no merit, quite a few comments and a good many of my posts would have to go.
Ok, prove to me how Jay has been “blatantly” dishonest. Oh no, Jay’s a liar. I don’t like him. I’m gonna vote for Bright, regardless of the fact that he would caucus with people who have no concern for me, my region, my state, or even my country and are beholden solely to George Soros and the Enviromaniacs. But Jay lied, or at least, I heard he did. he took some money from the AEA. he likes unions. he hates America. He eats babies. Listen to yourselves you dolts! Jay is first and foremost for business, as anyone with a modicum of intelligence should be. Alas, My pleas for people who understand political economy again go unanswered.
Ever stop long enough from gabbing to think that most 02 Voters have a solid mind and know what kind of policies they have been dealt during the past eight years? Not very good at all and do you think they are sick and tired of hearing the same ole garbage? Yes, thats why they don’t want more of the same and instead will support a new candidate that brings a sigh of hope to them. Not, I’ll stand by my same ole same ole tactics because I’m a hard nosed, because my daddy was, stubborn Repub.
You are carzy to think that the democrats will bring a great change to the country. They have been in contol of the house and sentate and done nothing on their watch.
People need to learn to save as well. If you are struggling in today’s economy, chances are it is your fault, not the government’s. Don’t buy more than you can afford, put money in the bank. Don’t look to the government for rebate checks, handouts, or other gifts.
Re; 83
And you are STUPID to think the Repubs didn’t put our US economy in the most God aweful position it has EVER been. You know its the truth so don’t go blaming that on the DEMS! The DEMS had the budget balanced when the Repubs took office. And yes the Dems are finally back in control, Thank God. Who the heck do you think led Congress when the deficit once again was created? You probably guessed it, the REPUBS again. In excess of a TRILLION DOLLAR DEFICIT????…. Start counting now and add all the zeros to it!
Our only hope is to keep putting the Dems back in charge to promote a first step process needed to work on ending wars, gone on entirely to long and the borrow\free spend, non accountable for tax dollar tactic. Face it, changes are essential to our very existence and DEMS must gain seats and remain in the majority in an effort to get us out of this mess.
YEah–you’re right, Republicans spent on a JUST WAR, major natural disasters like KAtrina, and foriegn aid to other countries. We have had no attacks on soil since Bush took action, I have served in Iraq and Afghanistan and seen the positive results.
THe reason our economy is in bad shape rests on the people and lending institutions. Deregulation gave people the power to borrow more than they could afford, and while real estate was increasaing in vaulue , no problem.
NOT THE GOVERNMENTS FAULT.
Also, people in the country live beyond their means. Is a wonder with 4 out of 5 people in debt and a savings rate of less that 1%, THAT THE CITIZENS of this country bear the most blame? Not the governments fault as well.
You may or may not know this, but the DEMs didn’t really balance a budget as they didn’t really do anything. It was a lame duck government. Clinton downsized the military (JUst like Bobby Bright will), would not engage in conflicts (just like the Dems could have prevented 9-11 by catching Obama/ Osama) and passed no major legislative action. What an accomplishment.
Then on the way out..rob the white house, lie under oath, and cheat on your wife. That is why voters had a change of heart and soon will again. Vote Republican in 2008.
To “enterprise” of comments 36, 66, 68, 72 & 78, and to “sad” in comments 83 & 85,
FYI, one of the comment guidelines here in the Parlor is that commenters are asked to stick to one name in a comment thread. Thanks.
