DCCC Buys TV Time for 31 House Races, None in Alabama

Pile of moneyPolitico.com’s The Crypt on Friday: “The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has reserved nearly $35 million on television advertisements in 31 House districts for the fall campaign, offering a sneak preview of the central campaign battlegrounds and the party’s most vulnerable incumbents.”

No House districts from Alabama were among the 31 listed. Does this mean that the DCCC believes that no district race in Alabama is among the top 31 House races that would benefit from DCCC’s money?

A Democratic strategist tells the Parlor:

There are many races that are clearly top tier which were not in that original 31. Certainly those 31 do show a major DCCC commitment, but there are many races they will be playing in that are not in that list, and I don’ t think one can assume that those are THE top 31. My guess is that those are districts where they thought there was some strategic benefit to buying time early – whether as a financial decision or because they are trying to send a message to Republicans/527s.

I think Bright and Griffith would still be considered top tier, whereas of course Segall is not in that league yet, but he’s moving in the right direction.

Bobby Bright in AL-02 and Parker Griffith in AL-05 will face the winners of tomorrow’s Republican primary run-offs. Josh Segall is challenging GOP incumbent Mike Rogers in AL-03.

Dumbocrats know they cannot defeat Conservative Christian Jay Love, and are cutting their losses.

Is “Conservative Christian” part of his name now? Isn’t he afraid of being judged for blasphemy?

    What a hypocrite.

Better a simple mantra to repeat over the airwaves simply backed up by Love’s honest lifestyle than claiming “wiregrass values” whilst receiving money from Pelosi and Rangel. Mayor Bright’s ruse of conservatism weakly supported by the weak and toothless blue dog bight will not stand up to bits of mere scrutiny come general election time.

  • [...] Related to the earlier post that the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee had bought TV time for 31 House district races, none of them in Alabama, I am alerted to a statement on the DCCC blog Saturday from DCCC Executive Director Brian Wolff: Our initial media buy is the first act of a many act play. As we have been all cycle, the DCCC is focused, prepared, and organized. Watch what we do over the next four months and our aggressive strategy to expand the playing field and strengthen the Democratic Majority will become clear. [...]

Now the race is on and the Blue Dog Democrats are now gonna take da stage and show da REPubs what this business is all about. Yeah now lets all say it together “Go Blue” cause its all about you. As ole Ed would have said “This is gonna be a really really really big shew” for the Dems.

Jay has already visited Fort Rucker, and has plans to do so again after he WINS the primary I’ve been told. I’m sure people in Montgomery wonder why they don’t see HAS at Maxwell…the fact is they are both representing different districts right now and have responsibilities to their respective constituents. Have you seen Bobby Bright at Rucker frequently? Once Jay WINS he will be at Rucker in force protecting our interests in the Wiregrass. Come on people..no matter who wins, we need to unite behind the Republican candidate.

Jay Love never said he was agaginst Country Crossings. He may be against gambling, but he has clearly stated that it is a local issue and will not be involved. Let’s unite this party, otherwise only the Democrats will win.

Be Careful What You Ask For

Alabama just finished one of the bizarre primary election cycles in recent memory. I mean really, who would have ever thought 12 months ago that Ron Sparks and Robert Bentley would have been facing off against one another for the big prize? Both men are personal friends but I think even they had to [...]

Regardless of Political Stripes Vote Tomorrow

As an elected official, I am tuned into voting habits and practices. Call me a political junkie, but I am fascinated by the whole electoral process—what age group votes most often, what issues motivate them and what media outlet is the most effective. While all of my interest in the political world is a hobby [...]

TRYIN’ TO CATCH UP

I’ve been in Venice on a little vacation and just returned last night.  I’ve been trying to catch up and see that there have been few dramatic events in the last 10 days.  I thought the www.fivethirtyeight.com piece was especially good, though the comments reflected the anti-Alabama knee-jerk reactions of those who live outside the [...]
