Troy King ‘Not Going to Resign’
A diverse group of Republicans in the state including power broker Steve Windom and political consultant Chris Brown (who has worked with King) tells the Political Parlor that Troy King is not going to resign as Attorney General. State GOP Communications Director Philip Bryan tells the Parlor, “I haven’t heard any plans that he is going to resign.”

One of my sisters, who works for a judge in Montgomery, called me about 30 minutes ago and said to watch the news at 5 because King was going to resign. She knows a lot of the people in the legal community in Montgomery and seemed to have it from a good source. I am going to watch the news just in case.

Wow. I guess the fine journalist at the Locust Fork Journal was wrong.
Imagine that.

I heard from this one guy who talked to this girl who found this note written by some guy’s friend who works in the super duper secret part of Alabama Politics and he said that it was true and that it was George Bush’s fault.

I’m declaring my bias, here, in case it’s not obvious, but that sounds like a pretty clearcut non-denial denial from Philip Bryan.

if susan fillippeli says it, it must be true.
good grief

So much for truthfullness from the Montgomery Judicial workers. It’s now 7:00 and no story.

No way that egotist would ever resign! He’ll be the Larry Craig of Alabama. Only way he leaves office is impeachment. And who could blame him — if he resigns, he’ll be pumping gas somewhere by next month.

I have yet to see a denial by “Robin” eh, wot?
Comment by Elsabiades — July 11, 2008 @ 7:48 pm
You say it best, when you say nothing at all.
It should have been addressed. It is now a national story and still no “OFFICIAL” word from his office. With the following this story now has he has to step up and say “No this is not true”. As of right now it is truth by silence.

I agree with #7 . . . Troy King would never resign. And he would never admit to being gay if he happens to be. Has he made any public appearances since this “story” has broken? My first thought was that there is no way he denies it because then it would really make the 5:00 news. But, at some point, if it really is just a rumor, you would think he would want to clear his name if everyone in the state is talking about it. Right? I don’t want to think, but I am inclined to agree with the idea that where there is smoke, there is fire. If I had to bet on it . . . he won’t be running for Governor in 2010.

I don’t know what to think (as opposed to . . . I don’t want to think).

[…] I’m not going to speculate as to whether King is or isn’t going to resign (word is that he is not). I don’t personally care about his sexual orientation (my sources deny that he is gay). I’m not even a fan of his (I endorsed and voted for his Democrat opponent in the 2006 election). However, I think that the manner in which this story has circulated has been egregiously reckless. […]

Troy Queen has been removed from John McCain’s website the best I can find.
If it is true, big boo boo TK.
If it isn’t, the consultant who created this rumor mill should be making big bucks right now.

I firmly believe that these are just vicious rumors. The difference between this rumor and other political talk is that people that are not even involved in politics have taken and interest. Even though I believe the rumor is false, when folks like Paul Finebaum discuss it on his radio program — it rises beyond just idle chatter. That is why I am disappointed that Troy King did not mobilize his pr machine earlier. This rumor has been ongoing for at least two weeks — his aides did a great disservice by not responding with full force and vigor the very second that these allegations were made. I can understand Troy not giving legitimacy to internet rumor, I cannot understand others not coming to his defense.
My guess is that this story is simply too hot not to be seen before the end of the weekend in a mainstream newspaper or television news program. If so, perception does become reality. My concern is that Troy King may ultimately resign, not because he is guilty of anything, but that the perception of guilt will make his ability to do his job almost impossible.
Finally, the silence from the GOP party bosses throughout this ordeal is difficult to understand. Where is the comment from Mike Hubbard, or anyone else, denouncing the viciousness of this rumor? Trust me, the GOP stands to lose if they can’t get this thing resolved. The Republicans are going to have a difficult time in November already — do the “powers” really want this story to still be ciculating with very competitive races in November?
Anyone in politics should be justifiable concerned that a couple of internet bloggers can create such a rumor firestorm as to jeapordize careers.

politicalnut - don’t disagree with you about king’s “pr machine” needing to mobilize, would say “faster” but they haven’t mobilized at all. however, i question your statement that the state gop should say something before the attorney general. seems to me that it would be tough for any faction, governor - state gop - dems - etc…, to say anything about these rumors before someone directly impacted talks. again, would welcome you to elaborate but don’t follow your rationale

a) Troy King’s name has been scrubbed from John McCain’s site:

b) regardless of the truth of this rumor, it couldn’t happen to a bigger self-righteous a**hole.

Down with the tool. True or not Troy King is a dueche and is getting what he deserves.

The reason to believe this is that the rumor has not essentially changed. These things usually morph into something else, and thus far I have not heard from that many people that Jay Love was the other man.
Nor have I heard from anyone claiming he was in flagrante with a German Shepard. It is all essentially the same - wife catches him, and wife throws him out.
Comment by Dern — July 12, 2008 @ 9:07 am
I just don’t believe that this is true. Jay Love may have some involvement though.

Hey Political Nut? Why don’t you just post under your own name, Troy.
Comment by Jelly — July 12, 2008 @ 2:06 pm
Jelly, kind of hard to believe that p-nut is “troy”, simply because the nut questions why the ag hasn’t mobilized his pr machine - don’t think he’s the type to question himself

Hubbard wil never comment
because he sees King as his rival in 2010

So just where is he? Apparently he didn’t attend the DA conference, and though I’m no expert, I understand he was expected. I can’t imagine that attempts are not being made to contact him and his wife. Maybe they went with Karl Rove on a long planned trip.

Comment by Karl Boots — July 12, 2008 @ 6:18 pm
Sorry Jelly - I am not Troy King. I am simply asking one question - where are his pr folks in the face of such a political crisis.
Another day ends without any type of response — no public appearance with his wife or kids — no effort from his paid political/pr staff. Just a shame, that’s all.

I would like to address #14’s statement, you should consider the reason no one close to him, is coming to his defense, is because they have the inside scoop, and know it’s true, they also know that this is not the first “incident” to be reported, or swept under the rug… check to find out why Troy fired his security detail( all at the same time) about 6-8 weeks ago, and had them re-assigned before they went to work the next day. the reason is, they came back to the car earlier than expected and caught him in the back seat in a very “compromising position” w/ his male aid…wait until all of the digging about the wife incident, unearths the details of that one. as for TK’s PR people, they have been working OVERTIME trying to spin this into nothing. The latest story, is that this came from an outside group hired by the Govs’s people to smear TK’s rep. before he can run for Gov. The back seat was explained away as an overtime issue…Ha. someone should talk w/the people who got reassigned, if their supervisors will allow it…if not… Hhmmm why not? it’s just an overtime issue…..right???

First off, Karl Rove left the country last week on an expended business meeting. So, King isn’t seeking refuge at his house.
I’m a republican businessman from Alabama and TOTALLY disgusted with the amount of decit, dishonesty, twisted truths from the “toxic”, conservative, republican party ! I don’t care what anyone’s sexual orientation is and have felt for some time that Troy King’s anti gay, hate-mongering rhetoric made Jerry Falwell look like new born, blind kitten. I’m so delighted that he got exposed ! ! ! I hope he dosen’t recieve refuge and support from the gay communities which he trashed.
One of my employees has shown me a email he recieved(07-15) from the Ala GOP and it reads, “…we do not belived the rumours…will not call for his resignation to satisfy bloggers…the situation with the General is fluid and we are monitoring it daily…we are waiting on him to make a statement…and are concerned about his wife and 3 children” A George Bush, Dick Cheney, Karl Rover, John McCain, Joe Liberman, Linday Graham (a 50yo single man….hum), David Gregory, Andrea Mitchell cover-up. I’m sick to my stomach! McCain talks of CHANGE, and nothing is changing with the party which I’ve support 40 plus years. The citizen of Alabama desereve better than this. King is so tarnished there’s no way he can function as the ATG of our state. He has violated his oath of his office, and as such, cannot function effectively because his has no intergrity and is a lying hypocrite - at the expense of the gays and lesbians within our state. However, nothing will happen because he is southern baptist, republican and they are mesaured to a different standard than anyone else. WE need to petition for a federal investigation into this rumor, and the refusal of the state republican party to demand Kings resignation. There by putting the party over what’s best for the citizens. THIS IS THE PARTY of change? McCain is part of the cover up. I will never vote republican again until we have NEW BLOOD!

The rumor is too sensational to be credible. Obviously a smear campaign against King and the Alabama GOP.
Of course, liberals believe in other stupid lies like the global warming context and solution, so why not believe rumors about Troy King?
Idiots
Comment by Buck — July 16, 2008 @ 4:42 pm
Sources inside the AGs office say that King only stepped back from the precipice because neither of two things he feared materialized. Look for the resignation to be back on the table as soon as either (a) his wife files for divorce or (b) one of the major papers in the state gets off the stick and runs a story about King’s abuse of the public trust by paying his incompetent boy toys inflated salaries so he had them available for lunch time trysts. Wrestling in the back seat of his car? I don’t think so.
Comment by eric — July 18, 2008 @ 6:09 am
How about using some common sense in the matter. If you seriously think about it for about half of a second…. does anyone think a state Attorney General would be having extra-marital homosexual affairs in their bedroom at home where Paige or the kids may possibly catch them? Stop trying to be cynical dicks and wise up that there is a high probability this is a rumor and why mainstream media hasn’t picked up on it.
