The Blue Dog Democrats have endorsed Montgomery Mayor Bobby Bright in the 2nd Congressional District. Some may want to dismiss the endorsement as nothing more remarkable than Congressional Democrats endorsing a Democrat, but the conservative Blue Dogs vet potential new members, cap their membership and do not accept all comers. Democrats are hopeful that Bright can be at least competitive in this district held by Republicans since 1965, and the Blue Dogs’ stamp of approval should help burnish Bright’s conservative credentials.
Retiring U.S. Rep. Bud Cramer (AL-05) is a founder of the Blue Dogs. Bright will face the winner of Tuesday’s runoff between Republicans Jay Love and Harri Anne Smith.
Sarasota’s Herald-Tribune has good reading on the Blue Dogs here in an April article.

Blue Dogs endorse Bright . . . .does Troy King endorse Blue Boy?
That is funny.
So What, Blue Dogs endorse Bright. I think the Yellow Dogs need to endorse Mr. Bright. — Mr. Bright is running as a Democrat. At the top of the ticket that he is running under is OBAMA! Ultra-Liberal, Nancy Pelosi, will be the Speaker of the House of Representatives. Mr Bright, if elected, would be a freshman representative following their lead.
Need more confirmation. Look under Mr. Bright’s PAC money contributions. Look at all that money that is coming out of Chicago, Illinois into the Bright war chest. Why would money from Illinois be flooding into an Alabama congressional race? Isn’t Mr. Obama a Senator from Illinois?
Also, look at the PAC money that is coming out of San Francisco, California. Same question as above. Why is money being sent from San Francisco to Montgomery? Does Nancy Pelosi represent a part of San Francisco in the US congress?
Come on, a Blue Dog Democrat, BUll—-! He is a YELLOW DOG DEMOCRAT alligned with Obama and Pelosi!!! Is that what we want to represent us in the Second Congressional District! I think not!
I will be supporting the REPUBLICAN NOMINEE! Only you ultra liberals out there should support your boy Bright.
Right LD! We should support the GOP nominee as he is probably a Christian Conservative like Troy King, featured in the video linked below . . .
http://youtube.com/watch?v=RWulS6lp7zQ
I could have sworn we saw this post already. Or was it the same post with Parker Griffith’s name instead of Bobby Not-so?
#4, your equating Jay with Troy “McGreevy” King is detestable. Harri Ann is lucky to have classless protoplasmic blobs of populist and corrupt political paramecium like yourself.
#6 – Troy King DID endorse Jay Love and has supported him . . .and I didn’t see any connection to Smith at all in post #4
Plus, a vote for Bobby Bright is a vote for Charlie Rangle and Nancy Pelosi- they’ve both contributed. Wiregrass values indeed, Mr. Bright…I’m just gonna go ahead and say it, the Blue Dogs are going to be dead after this election cycle with Comrade Barack Hussein Obama at the top of their ticket. There is no such thing as a “southern democrat” anymore, unless you’re a tax and spend liberal like Bill Nelson or Jim Webb. And that’s exactly what a Rep. Bright would look like.
Okay, either a Smith supporter or a Bright supporter- regardless it’s like holding the Florida Republicans accountable for ex Rep. Mark Foley’s actions in the 06 elections. Stupid, trite, and pitiful.
Mr. Jefferson,
Your moniker is a bit of an oxymoron given the content of your posts. Perhaps you would be more comfortable posting as Alexander Hamilton or perhaps more notable Republican luminaries such as Herbert Hoover or Richard Nixon.
Mr. Jefferson has also missed the irony that he’s doing his best to hold Bobby Bright accountable for the actions of others in his party while complaining about others doing the same to Jay Love. Stupid, trite, and pitiful all around.
Thomas Jefferson,
I appreciate your aggressive use of the RNC website buzzwords and word association games. The Democrats in AL-02 appreciate them as well since they’ve been so effective in the three special elections you stooges have gotten killed in this year. Might I add, in your fascist backyards as well.
So please, keep up the childish nonsense on a blog full of political hacks who’ve never heard such unique political insight.
Besides, Bright is going to walk your boy Jay if he survives Harri Anne…and that’s with Rangel’s, Pelosi’s, Obama’s, and how about hopefully even some of Murtha’s money.
Go Blue Dogs.
Here it goes again!!,but I know Mayor Bright and his people will not stoop so low as to attack someone else.IF he can’t win on his record, so be it,he would tell you that, i’m sure.But if you get something out of lies and malarkie just go right ahead.MY mom always said”spite work and lies always fall back on the ones that started it”,I think that is a true expression.
I don’t see how using my muse’s name is a misnomer in the very least. If you had a basic grasp of early American history, you’d find Thomas Jefferson was the greatest advocate for freedoms in this country after Patrick Henry, the progeniter of anarcho-capitalist thought in the nation. As a modern advocate for freedom in the libertarian mold, I find it very appropriate to use his name. I have also posted as John Jay, Joseph de Maistre, and Edmund Burke if you really want to know- in fact, every major figure contributing to the ideals we now know as paleo-conservatism. Appropriately, you could call me a libertarian who favors the war on terror- like Neal Boortz for instance. Why don’t you “blue dogs” who call yourself conservative listen to the show, you might learn the errors of taxing and spending, celebrating pork barrel spending like Bud Cramer has for decades. Calling my political insight non-unique is ironic considering the democrat rhetoric about conservatives in this country RNC party hacks and attack dogs, held by the leash from the Beltway. How arrogant indeed. Oh, by the way, I don’t hold Jay accountable for Troy b/c 1. its a rumor 2. Troy isnt a fundraiser- it is a fact that Bright is trying to pass himself off as a blue dog CONSERVATIVE- really, a conservative- when he has taken money from socialist, leftist, anti-capitalist moonbats. How can he possibly, conceivably justify this, I ask.
Gunney, you must remember those were indeed “special elections.” They are much different than general elections, especially in presidential election years. It does indeed matter who heads the ticket, especially here in Alabama.
Do your homework on past political trends and races! You tend to embarasse yourself sometimes. — Love will be the next Congressman!
I’m just waiting for more Bright supporters to come out of the communist woodwork- I’m sure voters in the second district will love endorsements coming from all the leftist all stars- Murtha, Feinstein, Boxer, Durbin. Bring ‘em on Bobby- I’m sure you could last as the bastion of traditional wiregrass values as a democrat in congress-for that matter, trying to pass yourself off as one currently. PLEASE, tell me how supporting taxing and spending is a conservative principle. Oh, and don’t tell me Bright’s going to fight taxes in Washington, it insults my intelligence.
I would suggest it is worth noting that in the primary, Obama received 3,899 more vote than McCain did. With some real Democratic voter registration and GOTV vote efforts for the first time since Carter, a majority of 2nd District voters may well not be frightened into voting against Democrats just because republicans yell LIBERAL, OBAMA, PELOSI, RANGLE, or even NIGGER LOVER.
As an aside, Thomas Jefferson would turn in his grave if he saw that crap above posted over his name.
First questions to ask the supposed conservative- will Bright fight for drilling offshore, in ANWR, promise not to raise windfall profits taxes on corporations, open up the strategic oil reserve, promise to fight the gift tax, death tax, capital gains taxes, self employment taxes, imputed income taxes, expansion of government earmarks, pork barrel projects, program expansion projects, and federal subsidation funding?
Oh I disagree- Thomas Jefferson loved laissez faire economics and freedom more than anybody else. I’m up there too, if you noticed my last post. I daresay Jefferson would not have been a fan of leftism, communism, pork projects, and taxation- If you’ve read the Declaration of Independence, the most libertarian manifesto in the country’s history, you’d understand what I’m talking about. Take a look at John Locke’s Two Treatises on Government, and Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations too. Plenty of good economic studies on the modern standard bearer of the protection of freedoms-the Cato Institute- particularly by Jerry Taylor on the oil issue.
Your apparent looney xenophobia of all things conservative becomes evident in your reference of suspected rampant racism in the conservative movement, Pecan Jim. Moreso in claiming I’m heading on such a path. If you knew anything about libertarian principles of fighting for freedoms everywhere you would have refrained from such a misguided attempt at labeling conservatives or laissez fair capitalists as racist sensationalists.
I think the Christian Conservatives endorsing Harri Anne over Jay is a pretty good story. I find it entertaining due to its ironic nature.
“Xenophobia of all things conservative.”
Sign me up.
Tripling the national deficit building “bridges to nowhere”, starting endless wars spending billions of dollars for more expensive oil while absolutely failing to apprehend the guy you label the “mastermind”, and chasing little boys around the Hill. Hey, I mean are there really many people signed up to join this cult?
You guys go get em. I understand you’ve never really had anything to do with government leadership in this country, and when you have its gone as stated, so there’s always that “rookie” label to hide behind. And I am grateful you’re so hungry to get in the game. But the bench is where your comfortable and best utilized, so let’s just give it a few more decades of success and prosperity before we hand you back the reigns for a second. That’s generally all you need to embarass us internationally, spend us into the poorhouse, and enrich six differrent Texans using an initial as their first name.
Now here’s to all those wacky “liberals” such as Rangel, Webb, and Murtha that fought the wars you verbally patriotic and cowardly conservatives started yet failed to partake in.
Thanks tax and queer hater cult for your time.
And here’s to all things liberal- calling our patriotic soldiers baby killers, stealing funds away from American taxpayers and calling it “imputed income”- saying what I earn and save is what the government has allowed me to do. Redistributing wealth and trying to claim it’s the American way to steal my possessions arbitrarily and capriciously give them to someone who didn’t work for them. Forcing an overpowering government over my liberties, stepping on my right to listen to talk radio with a “fairness doctrine” that is more reminiscent of censorship that the liberal media itself is terrified of. Using my tax dollars to be funneled into Robert Byrd’s pork barrel projects. Yes, building the bridge to nowhere, although only liberals should be held liable for such detestable waste. Participating in a worldwide movement of anti-semitism, allowing vengeful bug eyed Islamofascists to slowly encroach on liberty abroad and at home, saying that we should fight back with diplomacy. Neglecting the fact that radical Islamists want to do to the Jews in six minutes what Hitler did to them in six years. Yes, celebrating Lenin and Stalin’s great victories for the proletariat, forgetting the millions of innocents that socialism slashed and burned. Yes, celebrate the leftists, they care…
No one really cares for your ignorant, rambling and nonsense posts, T Jefferson! ( Every post is like reading a novel about nothing )
Why don’t you quit running from the truth and take it like a man, Publius! People everywhere, not just in the 02 district but everywhere in this country are sick and tired of the price increases they have been dealt over the past eight years. Stop and ask yourself if you are any better off?
The answer is simple, heck no and neither am I.
Now thomas, some drastic changes must be taken and must be taken soon. We don’t need four more years of the same antics that have destroyed our economy. Change is good and change is what we all need right now, bar none! People everywhere need to VOTE FOR CHANGE and VOTE DEMOCRATIC in November! ” Mark your ballot for Bobby Bright (D) 02 Congress Alabama “
Yes indeed, change for banning drilling in ANWR, offshore, and for oil shale in the Rockies. Change for higher taxes on smaller businesses, the “top 1% of income earners in the country” which comprise the people who provide all of the damn jobs in this country. Change for cooperation with Iran, no wait, maybe not so much. Change for troop withdrawls and a strict timetable no wait, let’s wait for a trip over there to see what Petraeus says. Change for public financing of campaigns no wait that would limit the fundraising. Change for “God damn America” and “White people need to donate their 401K to the Black people” no wait Flagher and Wright are awful even after knowing them for 20 years and being good friends. Change we can believe in to hope for- I don’t want any. I want a free market economy. I want school vouchers, tax reform, cutting spending, promoting freedom here, and PEACE THROUGH SUPERIOR FIREPOWER. To quote PJ O’Rourke- “giving money to government is like giving car keys to a drunk teenage boy”.
Socialist- “but it would take 10 years to get the domestic oil, and besides, it’s an addiction- people need to suffer the prices”. Freedom Lover-”Read some economic research doofus- speculation sets the price market for the most part- the simple ability to drill would automatically set the prices down, since the market would be open for an increased domestic supply with the same semi-elastic demand. Besides, what other feasible alternative energy source is ready NOW?” Socialist- “we’ve got biofuels and solar” Freedom Lover-”Biofuels don’t offset the cost of fuel, plus they decrease the fuel supply and the cost of food stuffs. Solar is almost economically infeasible to build widespread, and can’t physically provide all the energy we get from fossil fuels”.

Ah, the argument for corporate welfare and “stolen property” by taxation from a cult of individuals who probably inherited whatever property they own to begin with.
The unabashed support for government bailouts of pitifully managed firms when the exectuives can lay no more former military off in order to afford the insurance on their third home in Seaside, FL.
Tax cuts for the privileged driven home only to ensure the second term of a jacklegged and tounge-tied wordsmith that eventually triple the deficit and contribute to plunging the country into its worst recession in thirty years.
The shameful verbal defense of Vietnam-era soldiers who come back from war to frame your homes or work in your factories but certainly not to socialize with you at cocktail parties or the annniversary of the college graduation you pursued only to dodge the war they fought for you.
Such a large group of alien and sedionists poised to penetrate any household unbeholden to Baptist demagoguerry and adversarial nationalism. Cries of “freedom” and “liberty” providing cover for the cult that wants to take it all away.
The nerve to hide behind a smokescreen of “years of liberal appeasement caused this” when the most horrific and significant act of terorism in modern history happened under your incompetent and arrogant watch. And then so eagerly targeting a sole culprit to so miserably fail in finding him while he casually wags his finger in our unbelieving faces.
Lunatic defense of the Jewish community as if the only reason we defend them is from the goodness of our bottomless hearts and some personal relationship you all have forged with them while watching their country at war on FOX News.
Ah, we will soon celebrate the end of the reign of the ethnocentric-ly foolish and enviably privileged buffoons. The ones raised so far removed from real-time decision-making that their societal impotence knows no boundaries. We must now put the pieces back together.
I must ask, are we better off than we were eight years ago?
Thank you for the mess Tax and Queer hater cult, we’ll clean it up.
It is a mistake to characterize paleo-conservatives in the mold of the moderate pork barrel republicans. It is also mistake to categorize what I elucidated in my two responses as advocating tax cuts for ceo’s while neglecting the American worker. If you knew anything about economics, my friend Mr. Gunney, you would realize that tax cuts for everyone along with cuts in spending benefit everybody. You neglected to regard my comment vis a vis small businesses, evidently. This demagoguery you refer to concerning Israel proves further my contention that not only is anti semitism rampant in this country, as per John Mearschimer et al, but there is a fundamental misunderstanding with the liberals about conservatism’s case for Israel. Simply put, one should not neglect the Palestinians (Fatah, not Hamas,which is a terrorist group) but by the same token should support Israel in every aspect since it is the lone western stable democracy in the region.
I somehow sense you are caught between looney moonbat leftism and a moderate outlook on economic policy in your references to corporate welfare and the plight of the average American. Conservatives, or more appropriately Republitarians like myself support freedoms abroad and at home. This includes absolutely no government intervention in the economy, bailouts included. Your misguided attempts to label me a queer hater and ethnocentric Baptist neo-fascist Arab racist are about as far from the truth as you could conceivably venture to posit- I am not surprised though, since it is typical for liberals to cry “Hitler” when they hear anything conservative, even surprising when discussing promoting true freedom in society and the economy. You would do good to read some Milton Friedman to understand where I’m coming from, Gunney Highway. Better yet, humor me by reading the Cato Institute’s studies on economic policy- then come back and call me a fascist.
Remember the election in 2006? Thought you might like to read the following:
A little over one year ago:
1)Consumer confidence stood at a 2 1/2 year high;
2)Regular gasoline sold for $2.19 a gallon;
3)The unemployment rate was 4.5%.
Since voting in a Democratic Congress in 2006 we’ve seen:
1)Consumer confidence plummet;
2)The cost of regular gasoline soar to over $3 a gallon;
3)Unemployment is up to 5%(a 10%increase);
4)American households have seen $2.3 trillion in equity value evaporate(stock and mutual fund losses);
5)Americans have seen their home equity drop by $1.2 trillion dollars;
6)1% of American homes are in foreclosure.
America voted for change in 2006, and we got it!!!!!
All these increases came about when DEMS in Congress said enough is enough to the out of control spending and began holding those Repubs more accountable for their irresponsible and free spending war efforts which had been ongoing for years.
The Dems have definitely put the brakes on and stopped the free spend methodlogy the Repub Admin had. (Praise the Lord cause someone need to)
Things will get better although it ain’t gonna happen until after a new DEM Pres is elected, you can rest assured of that!
( After the election in Nov. the DEMS will then put the govt back ontrack and you’ll see a reversal of the high prices that the present admin has let get out of control as you qouted above). People can then breathe a sigh of relief and start driving their SUVs again.
promises promises, 30. “just trust us, it will all be better with a dem pres…” that’s what they said in 2006, “with a dem congress change is a comin’”, no mention of a repub pres being a hinderance then, so don’t fall back on it now.
Don’t fret there man, THEM DEMS gonna save us all as they take back the full power in the FALL.
I don’t even know how one could possibly conceiveably posit a claim that the Democrats have put a reign on spending. Take for example the irresponsible and unfair 300 billion mortgage bailout bill.
Jay has already visited Fort Rucker, and has plans to do so again after he WINS the primary I’ve been told. I’m sure people in Montgomery wonder why they don’t see HAS at Maxwell…the fact is they are both representing different districts right now and have responsibilities to their respective constituents. Have you seen Bobby Bright at Rucker frequently? Once Jay WINS he will be at Rucker in force protecting our interests in the Wiregrass. Come on people..no matter who wins, we need to unite behind the Republican candidate.
Jay Love never said he was agaginst Country Crossings. He may be against gambling, but he has clearly stated that it is a local issue and will not be involved. Let’s unite this party, otherwise only the Democrats will win.
You might be surprised to learn that Bright served on the BRAC Committee which by the way saved jobs for both military bases, Ft. Rucker and Maxwell. Check the record.
Whether it be Maxwell, Ft. Rucker or any other military installation within the Second Congressional District, a Representative owes the same responsibility to constituents, that being to work to keep the bases strong, from being downsized, or possibly even closed.
Anyone can visit them but keeping them safe, strong and active is the key!
